«Questa è la città di Augusto». Archi e processioni a Leptis Magna

2020

A recent study on the Trajan's arch at Leptis Magna mentions a second arch of Tiberius, along a street which runs parallel to the main cardo, where the more famous “twin” of this arch is located. The study also mentions a structure, an arch as well, posed at the same place where the tetrapyle of Trajan was erected. These three arches mark the three vertices of a quadrilateral of streets involving the main places of the public consent through the Imperial House. It is not a case that this predecessor of the Trajan's arch lies on the crossway among the main cardo and a way with goes to the street that separes the Theatre, the fourth vertex of the quadrilateral, from the porticus post scaenam.…

2020

International audience; In this research, the variations in the chemical composition of the Lavandula angustifolia Mill. essential oil, the Romanian variety Moldoveanca 4, obtained from the same culture, in the same harvesting and extraction conditions, during the years 2016-2018, representing the years 2-4 of culture. Lavandula angustifolia Mill. flowers were supplied from an ecological-crops from N-E Romania and the essential oils were obtained by hydro distillation of freshly harvested flowers. To determine the chemical composition, the essential oil was semi-quantitatively analysed by using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In all the samples, 30 organic compoun…

Augustae, Matrons, Goddesses: Imperial Women in the Sacred Space

2013

The reception of the image of the Augustae in Greece allows us to evaluate the different ways of integrating the imperial power in the local culture, religion, and society, answering to “central” stimuli through an active reinterpretation of the official models in accordance with the local agencies. In analogy with the main trends recognized by D. Boschung among the emperors’ portraits, the statues of the Augustae could be linked to the Hellenistic tradition of timai for the basileis or benefactors; their likenesses could be updated according to the latest Roman fashions, provided with clear status symbols (stola, calcei..) and made recognizable by the official portrait types; finally, thei…

Where do food likes and dislikes come from?

2020

Where do food likes and dislikes come from ? In other words, what are the factors that could explain why someone likes or dislikes a given food ? Most of the hedonic reactions to sensory stimulations brought by foods and, as a result reactions to foods carrying these sensory properties are learned through different learning mechanisms. The efficiency of these learning mechanisms mat depend on individual characteristics, in particular on the sensitivity to different sensory properties. Not all learnings are related to experiments with the food itself; many leamings depend on interactions within the family or social environment. Finally, cognitive determinants play also a role and, in particu…

Figure del contagio.
