Fertility outcome after radical vaginal trachelectomy: a prospective study of 212 patients.

2011

ObjectiveFor treatment in patients with early-stage cervical cancer, radical vaginal trachelectomy (RVT) as a fertility-preserving surgery can be put on a par with radical hysterectomy as to oncologic safety. Our aim was to investigate the fertility concerns and outcome.MethodsProspective collection of fertility data of patients treated with RVT. The data were collected on personal communication, by telephone, or e-mail correspondence. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed.ResultsBetween March 2005 and April 2010, 212 patients were followed up after RVT. Only 76 patients (35.9%) were seeking parenthood currently. Sixty pregnancies occurred in 50 women. Five patients (8.3%) had firs…

Giant uterus in a patient with Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome. Report of a case

2022

Introduction: Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is an uncommon congenital disease also called angio-osteodystrophy syndrome for its typical disorders characterized by abnormal growth of the soft tissues and bones and vascular malformations. Case report: In this report, we present a rare case of a 46-year-old nulliparous woman with Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome. She suffered from an abnormal uterine bleeding accompanied by severe anemia with need for multiple blood transfusions. At the time of admission, physical examination revealed port-wine stains and varicose veins on her lower limbs and hypertrophy of left lower extremity. We carried out an open bilateral hysteroannexectomy. Histopathology examin…

Progression Free Survival, Overall Survival, and Relapse Rate in Endometrioid Ovarian Cancer and Synchronous Endometrial-Ovarian Endometrioid Cancer …

2022

Background and Objectives: We aimed to evaluate Progression Free Survival (PFS), Overall Survival (OS), and relapse rate in women affected by endometrioid ovarian cancer and synchronous endometrial-ovarian endometrioid cancer (SEO-EC). As secondary outcome, we assessed whether systematic pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy could be considered a determinant of relapse rate in this population. Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of women with diagnosis of endometrioid ovarian cancer or SEO-EC between January 2010 to September 2020, and calculated PFS, OS and relapse rate. Results: In almost all the patients (97.6%) who underwent systematic pelvic and para-aortic ly…

Sexual function, sexual activity, and quality of life in women with ovarian and endometrial cancer.

2013

5051 Background: Gynecological cancer (GC) is generally assumed to have an impact on sexual function and activity. Although there are several studies addressing the issue, case control studies are currently limited. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional investigation of sexual function and activity utilizing the sexual activity questionnaire, the female sexual function index, and parts of the EORTC QLQ C30. Patients with gynecological cancer (GC) like ovarian and endometrial cancer were compared with a control group (C) of non-cancer patients. Inclusion of GC was only allowed if treatment was completed ≥12 months previously and patients were disease-free. Results: The questionnaires were…

Microarray analysis in sperm from fertile and infertile men without basic sperm analysis abnormalities reveals a significantly different transcriptom…

2007

Sperm analysis following World Health Organization guidelines is unable to explain the molecular causes of male infertility when basic sperm parameters are within a normal range and women do not present gynecologic pathology. Consequently, there is a need for accurate diagnostic tools in this area, and microarray technology emerges as promising. We present, for the first time, preliminary results of a comparison of sperm mRNA expression profiles between fertile and infertile men with normal semen parameters, discovering profound discrepancies between groups, with potential diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities.

Impact of covid-19 in gynecologic oncology: A nationwide italian survey of the sigo and mito groups

2020

Objective Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused rapid and drastic changes in cancer management. The Italian Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SIGO), and the Multicenter Italian Trials in Ovarian cancer and gynecologic malignancies (MITO) promoted a national survey aiming to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on clinical activity of gynecologist oncologists and to assess the implementation of containment measures against COVID-19 diffusion. Methods The survey consisted of a self-administered, anonymous, online questionnaire. The survey was sent via email to all the members of the SIGO, and MITO groups on April 7, 2020, and was closed on April 20, 2020. Results Overall, 604 particip…

Effect of depth of neuromuscular blockade on the abdominal space during pneumoperitoneum establishment in laparoscopic surgery.

2015

To evaluate the effect of neuromuscular blockade (NMB) upon the abdominal space during pneumoperitoneum establishment in laparoscopic surgery, comparing moderate NMB and deep NMB.Prospective, randomized, crossover clinical trial.Operating room.Seventy-six American Society of Anesthesiologists 1 to 2 patients scheduled for elective laparoscopic surgery. Two independent evaluations were performed at the establishment of pneumoperitoneum for a preset intraabdominal pressures (IAPs) of 8 and 12 mm Hg, both during moderate NMB (train-of-four count, 1-3) and deep NMB (posttetanic count,5). Rocuronium was used to induce NMB, and sugammadex was used for reversal. We evaluated (i) the volume of CO2 in…

Laparoscopy versus laparotomy for surgical treatment of obese women with endometrial cancer: A cost-benefit comparative analysis

2019

The aim of the present study was to demonstrate the cost of obese patients affected by endometrial cancer undergoing open surgery compared with minimally invasive surgery. In the retrospective cohort study (Canadian Task Force classification II-2), the economic expenditure in pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative phases of the selected patients was evaluated. Costs were analyzed for all blood tests, instrumental examinations, consultations, operating materials, drugs, gynecological examinations, hospital stay, intensive care hospitalization and management of operative complications. The average length of stay was longer for patients who underwent laparotomy, with an almost doubl…

Bladder endometriosis: laparoscopic treatment and follow-up

2008

Objectives: This study aims to show the treatment outcome in women affected by isolated bladder endometriosis who underwent laparoscopic surgery in our units. Only women with deep nodules located in the bladder were selected, thus excluding women with deep lesions located in other sites. Study design: Between March 2005 and 2007, women with deep vesical endometriosis, referring to the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of University Hospitals "G. Martino" of Messina, "Paolo Giaccone" of Palermo and "San Paolo" of Milano, were respectively recruited. A preoperative assessment of the pathology was performed. Women who were concomitantly diagnosed deep nodules of the rectovaginal septum…
