Pathology of Rotavirus-driven Multiple Organ Failure in a 16-month-old Boy

2019

International audience; Autopsy investigation of a fatal case of rotavirus severe acute gastroenteritis and multiple organ failure in a 16-month boy with previous intrauterine growth retardation showed colocalization of nonstructural and structural rotavirus proteins within viroplasms in nephrons. This case brings new insights into extraintestinal rotavirus infection and new clues to its abilities to bind to human histo-blood group antigens.

Molecular Diagnosis of Toxoplasmosis in Immunocompromised Patients: a 3-Year Multicenter Retrospective Study

2015

ABSTRACT Toxoplasmosis is a life-threatening infection in immunocompromised patients (ICPs). The definitive diagnosis relies on parasite DNA detection, but little is known about the incidence and burden of disease in HIV-negative patients. A 3-year retrospective study was conducted in 15 reference laboratories from the network of the French National Reference Center for Toxoplasmosis, in order to record the frequency of Toxoplasma gondii DNA detection in ICPs and to review the molecular methods used for diagnosis and the prevention measures implemented in transplant patients. During the study period, of 31,640 PCRs performed on samples from ICPs, 610 were positive (323 patients). Blood ( n …

Impact of systematic whole-body 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT on the management of patients suspected of infective endocarditis: the prospective mult…

2021

AbstractBackgroundDiagnostic and patients’ management modifications induced by whole-body 18F-FDG-PET/CT had not been evaluated so far in prosthetic valve (PV) or native valve (NV) infective endocarditis (IE)-suspected patients.MethodsIn sum, 140 consecutive patients in 8 tertiary care hospitals underwent 18F-FDG-PET/CT. ESC-2015-modified Duke criteria and patients’ management plan were established jointly by 2 experts before 18F-FDG-PET/CT. The same experts reestablished Duke classification and patients’ management plan immediately after qualitative interpretation of 18F-FDG-PET/CT. A 6-month final Duke classification was established.ResultsAmong the 70 PV and 70 NV patients, 34 and 46 wer…

Multithreaded Peripheral Processor for a Multicore Embedded System

2012

Multithreaded and multicore architectures represent a good solution used for increasing of parallelism degree exploited in modern computing systems and they can reduce the power dissipated in the chip by using low-frequency clock signals. These advantages recommend these parallel architectures for integration in the embedded systems, with restrictions imposed by the relatively small integration area. Particularities of embedded applications require hardware support able to handling in real time the peripheral interrupt requests. The performance of this hardware influences the performance of the entire parallel system. The current trend is to integrate in one microcontroller more processors …

Integrated Tool for Assisted Predictive Analytics

2021

Organizations use predictive analysis in CRM (customer relationship management) applications for marketing campaigns, sales, and customer services, in manufacturing to predict the location and rate of machine failures, in financial services to forecast financial market trends, predict the impact of new policies, laws and regulations on businesses and markets, etc. Predictive analytics is a business process which consists of collecting the data, developing accurate predictive model and making the analytics available to the business users through a data visualization application. The reliability of a business process can be increased by modeling the process and formally verifying its correctn…

QSAR of Natural Sesquiterpene Lactones as Inhibitors of Myb-dependent Gene Expression

2017

Background Protein c-Myb is a therapeutic target. Some sesquiterpene lactones suppress Myb-dependent gene expression, which results in their potential anti-cancer activity. Material & methods Database ChEMBL is a representative of lactones for physicochemical and physiochemical properties. Data presented for 31 natural lactones are discussed in terms of quantitative structureactivity relationships with the objective to predict inhibitors of Myb-induced gene expression. Several constitutional descriptors are related to structure-activity. α-Methylene-γ-lactone groups enhance while OH functions worsen potency. The latter feature is in agreement with the fact that the more lipophilic the lacto…

State of the Art Review and Report of New Tool for Drug Discovery

2017

BACKGROUND There are a great number of tools that can be used in QSAR/QSPR studies; they are implemented in several programs that are reviewed in this report. The usefulness of new tools can be proved through comparison, with previously published approaches. In order to perform the comparison, the most usual is the use of several benchmark datasets such as DRAGON and Sutherland's datasets. METHODS Here, an exploratory study of Atomic Weighted Vectors (AWVs), a new tool useful for drug discovery using different datasets, is presented. In order to evaluate the performance of the new tool, several statistics and QSAR/QSPR experiments are performed. Variability analyses are used to quantify the…

What place does molecular topology have in today’s drug discovery?

2020

Introduction: Most methods in molecular and drug design are currently based on physicochemical descriptors. However, molecular topology, which relies on topological descriptors, has also shown value for molecular design even if it does not take into account the physical or chemical properties of ligands and receptors, including the ligand-receptor interaction itself. Areas covered: Herein, the authors provide new insights into the importance of molecular topology according to some of the latest discoveries in physics and chemistry. Furthermore, the authors report on the most significant achievements in drug design using molecular topology over the last 5 years and give their expert perspect…
