Regulatory networks underlying mycorrhizal development delineated by genome-wide expression profiling and functional analysis of the transcription fa…
2017
Background: Ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi develop a mutualistic symbiotic interaction with the roots of their host plants. During this process, they undergo a series of developmental transitions from the running hyphae in the rhizosphere to the coenocytic hyphae forming finger-like structures within the root apoplastic space. These transitions, which involve profound, symbiosis-associated metabolic changes, also entail a substantial transcriptome reprogramming with coordinated waves of differentially expressed genes. To date, little is known about the key transcriptional regulators driving these changes, and the aim of the present study was to delineate and functionally characterize the trans…
Manufacturing export performance and public capital: an analysis by country technology position
2021
The objective of this paper is to examine the relationship between public capital and manufacturing export performance. It also aims at investigating whether this relationship depends on the proximity of a country's technology frontier. To achieve this, we adopted a methodology that estimates the elasticities of public capital as a non-rival factor in a model that considers factor intensity as a mechanism of industrial development. We use an interaction model with panel data from 1999 to 2014 across 35 advanced and less advanced countries. Our results show that in countries far from the technology frontier, public capital accumulation is an element of industrial development as opposed to co…
Effects of BRCA2 cis-regulation in normal breast and cancer risk amongst BRCA2 mutation carriers
2012

Introduction: Cis-acting regulatory single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) at specific loci may modulate penetrance of germline mutations at the same loci by introducing different levels of expression of the wild-type allele. We have previously reported that BRCA2 shows differential allelic expression and we hypothesize that the known variable penetrance of BRCA2 mutations might be associated with this mechanism.
\ud \ud
Methods: We combined haplotype analysis and differential allelic expression of BRCA2 in breast tissue to identify expression haplotypes and candidate cis-regulatory variants. These candidate variants underwent selection based on in silico predicti…
Etude théorique de surfaces d'énergie potentielle, de moment dipolaire et de polarizabilité des complexes de van der Waals CH4-N2 et C2H4-C2H4
2010
In the present thesis both ab initio and analytical calculations were carried out for thepotential energy, dipole moment and polarizability surfaces of the weakly bound van der Waals complexes CH4-N2 and C2H4-C2H4 for a broad range of intermolecular separations and configurations in the approximation of the rigid interacting molecules. For ab initio calculations the CCSD(T), CCSD(T)-F12 and less computationally expensive methods such as MP2, MP2-F12, SAPT, DFT-SAPT were employed (for all methods the aug-cc-pVTZ basis set was used). The BSSE correction was taken into account during the calculations. The analytical calculations were performed in the framework of the classical long-range appro…
Obama Institute for Transnational American Studies
The Obama Institute for Transnational American Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz offers a dynamic and wide-ranging program in both research and teaching for all students interested in topics related to the Americas in a global context. With a special focus on interculturality, transnationalism, and interdisciplinarity, our expertise lies in the fields of Early American Studies, Indigenous Studies, Life Writing/Life Sciences, Political & Intellectual History, Film & Media Studies, Religion and American Culture, and Materiality.
Multiliteracies for social participation and in Learning across the life span, MultiLEAP
The multidisciplinary research community of MultiLEAP focuses on examining the uses, practices and modes of multiliteracies emerging at the interfaces of the contexts of education, free time and working life with particular emphasis on access, participation, equity, agency, and well-being.
Laboratory for the Study of Learning and Development
The LEAD is a cognitive psychology laboratory that studies the modifications of information processing processes following learning (implicit, didactic and professional) and development. The theoretical originality of the unit is to defend a parsimonious approach to cognition that differs from the dominant theoretical models. Basic research is complemented by research with direct implications in the field of health, and to a lesser extent, education and business. An increasing place is given to interdisciplinary studies. LEAD studies the mental activities that regulate our behavioural interactions with the environment. The development of these mental activities as well as their dysfunctions…
40.000 Years of Human Challenges: Perception, Conceptualization and Coping in Premodern Societies
Challenges can be/form/represent starting points of development and change, stagnation and progress as well as success and failure. At least since the appearance of anatomically modern humans in Western Eurasia about 40,000 years ago, both individuals and communities have developed practices to overcome various forms of challenges, challenges we still face today. For a better/deeper understanding of present as well as future challenges and possible solutions, the diachronic and cross-cultural study of short- and long-term developments over the aforementioned time period offers promising data that have so far been ignored in the discussion. Only such a long-term perspective makes it possible…
UL Centre "Confucius Institute
The Centre is a basic unit of the University of Latvia (hereinafter referred to as “UL”), established on the initiative of the UL and HANBAN, on the basis of the Agreement about establishing a “Confucius Institute” in the UL and a cooperation agreement with South China Normal University (SCNU), in order to develop cooperation between the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Latvian universities. The Centre aims to promote cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture between UL and SCNU, to attract projects. The Centre unites and links these projects and offers them a single location, shared infrastructure and extensive publicity.
Personality in Second Language Acquisition
The aim of the research group is to investigate the role of personality in the second/foreign language acquisition process, which places it within the ‘Diversity and Migration’, as well as ‘Multilingualism in School and Higher Education’ labs. The basic undertakings of the group include empirical research carried out at the secondary and tertiary levels. Aside from broadening the knowledge about personality involved in language learning, the group’s aim is to refine data analysis tools. The group members include Katarzyna Skałacka (Department of Psychology, University of Opole) and Katarzyna Ożańska-Ponikwia (University of Bielsko-Biala). Some results of the research have already been publ…
