Bryophytes are commonly used in biomonitoring heavy metal pollution, whereas the bioindicative value of bryophyte communities is a less known issue. The aim of the present study is to recognize the utility of the bryophyte community’s structure in the assessment of soil condition in heavy metal-polluted, dry grasslands. The study plots are examined with respect to bryophytes; vascular plants; concentrations of Zn, Pb, Cd, and As in the soil; total nitrogen and organic carbon content in the soil; and soil pH. Previous empirical research on harmony perception has mainly been concerned with horizontal aspects of harmony: studies focusing on vertical harmony perception have been rare. Tässä opinnäytteessä tutkin vasta-alkajien musiikillista improvisaatiota. Tarkoituksenani oli selvittää kuinka vastaalkaja kitaristit ilman aiempaa kokemusta lähestyvät musiikillista improvisaatiota. Lähdin tutkimaan aihetta kitaratunneilla järjestämieni käytännön improvisaatiotehtävien kautta. Tutkimukseen osallistui seitsemän kitaraoppilastani, joista kuusi oli 7–13-vuotiaita ja yksi 35-vuotias. Aineistona työssäni käytin 57 videoitua improvisaatiotehtävää; viideltä oppilaalta jokaiselta yhdeksää ja kahdelta kuutta. Neo-Darwinism characterises biological adaptation as a one-sided process, in which organisms adapt to their environment but not vice versa. This asymmetric relationship – here called Williams’ asymmetry – is called into question by Niche Construction Theory, which emphasises that organisms and their environments often mutually affect each other. Here we clarify that Williams’ asymmetry is specifically concerned with (quasi-) directed modifications towards phenotypes that increase individual fitness. The aim of this study was to investigate the attitudes of trade union representatives toward companies’ CSR practices. The research participants were representatives of altogether nine Finnish trade unions and one Finnish solidarity centre representing the trade unions. The data had been collected as part of a bigger research project concerning trade unions and CSR but this study is an independent research using the same data. Altogether 206 pages of transcribed data gathered through interviews were analysed.
