Immunoanalytical approaches for the control of xenobiotics and biotoxins in food
2020
Recapturing Joaquín “Chapo” Guzmán in the Mexican Press: An Analysis of the Front Page of El Universal, Reforma, Excélsior, and La Jornada in 2016
2018
This article, whose aim is to know exactly how the headlines of Mexico's four main newspapers have reported on the recapture of Joaquín Guzmán, will show the results of an analysis of the journalistic content of these four Mexican newspapers. These are general papers, which published information on their front page regarding the recapture of the drug trafficker Joaquín 'Chapo' Guzmán. The events took place on January 8, 2016, six months after his escape from Altiplano prison in Mexico. If the escape was spectacular-being from a high-security prison and evidencing collusion of authorities and corruption of the system-the recapture was even more so. Well-known figures, such as actors Kate del…

2017
The article focuses on Finnish proverbs as a part of contemporary colloquial written language in everyday use and context. Most traditional Finnish proverbs originate from an agrarian context and still use agrarian language, even if nowadays they live in a new context with a new meaning. As empirical material this article uses a special case that demonstrates the use of proverbs in one Finnish newspaper: proverbs in SMS messages published as a letter to the editor in a newspaper.
Spanish History in The Fairy Country: Dealing with Social Trauma in 'Pan's Labyrinth'
2014
From the Worship of God to the Worship of Beauty? The Reception of Italian Catholic Religious Paintings in the Private Chapels of English Country Hou…
2010
This study discusses the shifting reception of Italian Catholic religious paintings in the private chapels of English country houses. It first investigates how the practice of art collecting and patronage informs the strategies deployed by the English aristocracy to expunge from these pictures all Catholic overtones. It moves on to assess the impact of this ideological reinterpretation on works of art, whose original religious message was thus gradually displaced. The article concludes that these paintings came, effectively, to extol a religiosity of splendour, representative of a desire to glorify both the host's good taste and God's greatness.

Reimagining cultural memory of the arctic in the graphic narratives of Oqaluttuaq
2021
The Greenlandic oral story-telling tradition, Oqaluttuaq, meaning “history,” “legend,” and “narrative,” is recognized as an important entry point into Arctic collective memory. The graphic artist Nuka K. Godtfredsen and his literary and scientific collaborators have used the term as the title of graphic narratives published from 2009 to 2018, and focused on four moments or ‘snippets’ from Greenland’s history (from the periods of Saqqaq, late Dorset, Norse settlement, and European colonization). Adopting a fragmentary and episodic approach to historical narrativization, the texts frame the modern European presence in Greenland as one of multiple migrations to and settlements in the Artic, ra…
Being positive, being hopeful, being happy : young adults reflecting on their future in times of austerity
2020
The aim of this article is to analyse the ways in which young adults reflect on their futures. We are particularly interested in how they expect to organize their lives in conditions that seem to offer pessimistic rather than hopeful prospects. How does this happen under social conditions where the major public and individual concerns are with how young adults organize their material lives and how they earn sufficient livelihoods to become good citizens? What are the grounds for their future visions? In our analysis we use 40 interviews with young Finnish adults aged between 18 and 30. The respondents are students, as well as employed and unemployed young adults. Our findings show that the…
