SparseHC: A Memory-efficient Online Hierarchical Clustering Algorithm

Computing a hierarchical clustering of objects from a pairwise distance matrix is an important algorithmic kernel in computational science. Since the storage of this matrix requires quadratic space with respect to the number of objects, the design of memory-efficient approaches is of high importance to this research area. In this paper, we address this problem by presenting a memory-efficient online hierarchical clustering algorithm called SparseHC. SparseHC scans a sorted and possibly sparse distance matrix chunk-by-chunk. Traditionally, intimate-partner violence has been considered a special type of crime that occurs behind closed doors, with different characteristics from street-level crime. The aim of this study is to analyze the spatial overlap of police calls reporting street-level and behind-closed-doors crime. We analyzed geocoded police calls in the 552 census-block groups of the city of Valencia, Spain, related to street-level crime (N = 26,624) and to intimate-partner violence against women (N = 11,673). Odd triplet superconductivity induced by a moving condensate

It has been commonly accepted that a magnetic field suppresses superconductivity by inducing the ordered motion of Cooper pairs. We demonstrate that a magnetic field can instead provide a generation of superconducting correlations by inducing the motion of a superconducting condensate. This effect arises in superconductor/ferromagnet heterostructures in the presence of Rashba spin-orbital coupling. We predict the odd-frequency spin-triplet superconducting correlations called the Berezinskii order to be switched on at large distances from the superconductor/ferromagnet interface by the application of a magnetic field. Tässä tutkielmassa tutkin fononien välittämää suprajohtavuutta systeemeissä, jossa elektronivyöt ovat tasomaisia. This working paper investigates the question of changing people mobility towards more sustainable habits involving them in an engaging gameplay. The work is performed within MUV H2020 research and innovation action. The game design, definition and features have been co-created through the involvement of different citizens and stakeholders in six European neighbourhoods. The paper discusses the game design as resulting from co-creation and co-design experiences with each neighbourhood communities involved in initial phases. In this paper we evaluate user-equipment (UE) positioning performance of three cluster-based RF fingerprinting methods using LTE and WLAN signals. Real-life LTE and WLAN data were collected for the evaluation purpose using consumer cellular-mobile handset utilizing ‘Nemo Handy’ drive test software tool. Test results of cluster-based methods were compared to the conventional grid-based RF fingerprinting. The cluster-based methods do not require grid-cell layout and training signature formation as compared to the gridbased method.
