Tapology: A Game-Based Platform to Facilitate E-Health and E-Inclusion

2014

Published version of a chapter in the book: Universal Access in Human-Computer Interaction. Aging and Assistive Environments. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-07446-7_36 We have developed a tablet computer game app for low vision users that can be used to introduce a platform for gaming, internet and visual rehabilitation to older users who have not had prior experience with information communication technology (ICT). Our target user group is people diagnosed with Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The primary goal of the app is to present a fun and engaging means for participants to engage with Information Communication Technology (ICT). A long…

Capturing User Experiences of Mobile Information Technology with the Repertory Grid Technique

2010

We describe the application of the repertory grid technique (RGT) as a tool for capturing the user experience of technological artifacts. In noting the artificiality of assessing the emotional impact of interactive artifacts in isolation from cognitive judgments, we argue that HCI techniques must provide practical solutions regarding how to assess the holistic meaning of users’ interactive experiences. RGT is a candidate for this role. This paper takes the reader step by step through setting up, conducting, and analyzing a RGT study. RGT is a technique on the border between qualitative and quantitative research, unique in that it respects the wholeness of cognition and does not separate the…

Reuse of Food Waste: The Chemical Composition and Health Properties of Pomelo (Citrus maxima) Cultivar Essential Oils

2022

The aim of the present study is to investigate the chemical profile, antioxidant activity, carbohydrate-hydrolysing enzyme inhibition, and hypolipidemic effect of essential oils (EOs) extracted from Sicilian Citrus maxima (pomelo) flavedo. Using gas-chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis (GC-MS) we analysed the Eos of five cultivars of C. maxima, namely, ‘Chadock’, ‘Maxima’, ‘Pyriformis’, ‘Terracciani’, and ‘Todarii’, and their blends. The antioxidant activity was performed by using a multi-target approach using 2,2′-Azino-Bis-3-Ethylbenzothiazoline-6-Sulfonic acid (ABTS), 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), ferric reduc…

Informasjonsflyt ved mottak og respons på trygghetsalarmer : en casestudie for å undersøke hvilken betydning tilgang på informasjon og informasjonsfl…

2016

Masteroppgave i helse- og sosialinformatikk- Universitetet i Agder, 2016 The theme of this study is security alarms and information flow. The background for the study is estimates regarding an upcoming growing number of security alarms in municipal healthcare services, recommendations on the transition from analogue to digital security alarms, and reports on the current organization of the safety alarms of varying quality and low efficiency (Frantzen, 2014; Fensli, 2015 Kvernland-Berg, 2014). Purpose The aim of this study was to find what importance access to information and information flow had in the working process with security alarms for a future-oriented health services. Method The su…

Role of Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) in Autoimmune Diseases

2018

Since the discovery of HLA 60 years ago, it has contributed to the understanding of the immune system as well as of the pathogenesis of several diseases. Aside from its essential role in determining donor-recipient immune compatibility in organ transplantation, HLA genotyping is meanwhile performed routinely as part of the diagnostic work-up of certain autoimmune diseases. Considering the ability of HLA to influence thymic selection as well as peripheral anergy of T cells, its role in the pathogenesis of autoimmunity is understandable. The aim of this paper is to provide a brief overview of the role and current clinical relevance of HLA-B27 in spondyloarthritis and HLA-B51 in Behçet's disea…

Analysis of HLA-DRB1,DQA1,DQB1 haplotypes in Sardinian centenarians

2008

Some genetic determinants of longevity might reside in those polymorphisms for the immune system genes that regulate immune responses. Many longevity association studies focused their attention on HLA (the human MHC) polymorphisms, but discordant results have been obtained. Sardinians are a relatively isolate population and represent a suitable population for association studies. Some HLA-DR and DQ alleles form very stable haplotypes with a strong linkage disequilibrium. In a previous study on Sardinian centenarians we have suggested that HLA-DRB1 *15 allele might be marginally associated to longevity. HLA-DR,DQ haplotypes are in strong linkage disequilibrium and well conserved playing a ro…

Bacteria-specific cytotoxic CD8+ T cells: a missing link in the pathogenesis of the HLA-B27-associated spondylarthropathies.

1994

The term seronegative spondylarthropathies is used for an entity of rheumatic syndromes of peripheral joints and the spine (ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, Reiter's syndrome, arthritis in psoriasis and in inflammatory bowel disease) which are strongly associated with the MHC class I molecule HLA-B27. However, the mechanisms whereby HLA-B27 confers disease susceptibility have so far remained unknown. There is strong evidence that gut inflammation and infection with gram-negative bacteria play a role in the induction of B27-associated disease. HLA-B27, like other MHC class I molecules, physiologically binds antigenic peptides in its binding groove and presents them to CD8+ T lymph…

HLA class II haplotypes differentiate between the adult autoimmune polyglandular syndrome types II and III.

2013

Background: Genetics of the adult autoimmune polyglandular syndrome (APS) is poorly understood. Aim: The aim of this study was to gain further insight into the genetics of the adult APS types. Site: The study was conducted at a university referral center. Methods: The human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II alleles, haplotypes, and genotypes were determined in a large cohort of patients with APS, autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD), and type 1 diabetes and in healthy controls by the consistent application of high-resolution typing at a four-digit level. Results: Comparison of the allele and haplotype frequencies significantly discriminated patients with APS vs AITD and controls. The HLA class…
