Elevated serum leptin concentrations in type 2 diabetic patients with microalbuminuria and macroalbuminuria

Leptin levels are elevated in end-stage renal disease, suggesting an impairment of renal leptin degradation. The present study aimed to determine whether leptin levels are also elevated in patients with earlier stages of renal disease, ie, microalbuminuric and macroalbuminuric nephropathy. A total of 60 subjects were assigned to two study groups. Group A contained 10 type 2 diabetics with macroalbuminuria, 10 type 2 diabetics with normoalbuminuria, and 10 healthy control subjects. We investigated the associations of physical activity (PA), sedentary time (ST), and diet quality with biomarkers of inflammation in 390 children (192 girls, 198 boys) aged 6–8 years. PA energy expenditure (PAEE), light PA, moderate PA (MPA), vigorous PA (VPA), moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA), and ST were assessed by combined movement and heart rate sensor. Repeated exposure of fluazinam fungicides affects gene expression profiles yet carries no costs on a nontarget pest

Fungicides are used to control pathogenic fungi of crop species, but they have also been shown to alter behavioral, life history and fitness related traits of non-target insects. Here, we tested the fungicide effects on feeding behavior, survival and physiology of the non-target pest insect, the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata). Feeding behavior was studied by a choice test of adult beetles, which were allowed to choose between a control and a fungicide (fluazinam) treated potato leaf. Our primary aim was to study the effects of 24 weeks of combined aerobic and resistance training performed on the same day or on different days on inflammation markers. Artikkeli kasittelee suomalaisen viittomakielen ja suomen kielen kehitysta kuudella kuurolla sisakorvaistutetta kayttavalla lapsella. Lasten kuulevat vanhemmat alkoivat opiskella ja kayttaa viittomakielta lastensa kanssa kuulovammadiagnoosin selvittya. Aineisto on keratty vuosina 2005 ja 2006 kuvanauhoittamalla lapsen ja viittomakielisen aikuisen seka lapsen ja suomenkielisen aikuisen vuorovaikutustilanteita. Artikkelissa selvitetään tiedonalakohtaisten tekstitaitojen viitekehyksessä, miten lukiolaisten historian esseissä rekontekstualisoidaan aineistona olevia historiallisia -dokumentteja ja miten dokumentteja selostavat ja niitä tulkitsevat esitykset eroavat toisistaan. Aineistona on 52 lukion kurssikokeen yhteydessä kirjoitettua esseetä, joiden tehtävänanto edellyttää aineistojen hyödyntämistä vastauksen perustelussa. Tutkimuksen teoreettisena ja metodologisena viitekehyksenä ovat systeemis-funktionaalinen kieliteoria ja siihen pohjautuva suhtautumisen teoria.
