Ikääntyvien alkoholinkäyttö on lisääntymässä ja vaikuttaa heidän perheeseen, terveyteen, terveyspalveluiden käyttöön. Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää ikääntyvien liiallista alkoholinkäyttöä läheisten näkökulmasta. Tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa terveyspalveluiden käyttöä ja kokemusta näistä palveluista päihteitä liikaa käyttävän iäkkään henkilön kohdalla. Kohderyhmänä oli henkilöt, jotka kokevat ikääntyvän yli 65-vuotiaan läheisensä käyttävän liikaa alkoholia. Tutkimusaineisto koostuu kahdeksasta nauhoitetusta ja litteroidusta haastattelusta. Predation on Multiple Trophic Levels Shapes the Evolution of Pathogen Virulence

The pathogen virulence is traditionally thought to co-evolve as a result of reciprocal selection with its host organism. In natural communities, pathogens and hosts are typically embedded within a web of interactions with other species, which could affect indirectly the pathogen virulence and host immunity through trade-offs. Here we show that selection by predation can affect both pathogen virulence and host immune defence. The synthesis of two series of gold(I) complexes containing the general formulae PR 3 ‐Au‐C≡C‐phenanthrene (PR 3 = PPh 3 ( 1a / 2a ), PMe 3 ( 1b / 2b ), PNaph 3 ( 1c / 2c )) or (diphos)(Au‐C≡C‐phenanthrene) 2 (diphos = 1,1‐ bis (diphenylphosphino)methane, dppm ( 1d / 2d ); 1,4‐ bis (diphenylphosphino)butane, dppb ( 1e / 2e )) have been synthesized. Donor spin states in silicon are a promising candidate for quantum information processing. One possible donor spin readout mechanism is the bound exciton transition that can be excited optically and creates an electrical signal when it decays. This transition has been extensively studied in bulk, but in order to scale towards localized spin readout, microfabricated structures are needed for detection. As these electrodes will inevitably cause strain in the silicon lattice, it will be crucial to understand how strain affects the exciton transitions. The solid and solution state structure of the vanadium(II) N‐ heterocyclic silylene (NHSi) complex, [(SiIPr)V(Cp)2] (1) is reported ( SiIPr: 1,3‐bis(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)‐1,3‐diaza‐2‐silacyclopent‐4‐ en‐2‐ylidene). The electronic structure of 1 is probed using combination of magnetic measurements, EPR spectroscopy and computational studies. The V–Si bond strength and complex forming mechanism between vanadocene and NHSi ligand is elucidated using computational methods. peerReviewed

A high-level composite quantum chemical method, W1X-1, is used herein to calculate the gas-phase standard enthalpy of formation, entropy, and heat capacity of 159 organosilicon compounds. The results set a new benchmark in the field that allows, for the first time, an in-depth assessment of existing experimental data on standard enthalpies of formation, enabling the identification of important trends and possible outliers. The calculated thermochemical data are used to determine Benson group additivity contributions for 60 Benson groups and group pairs involving silicon. Tutkielmassa selvitetään avoimen lähdekoodin ja sen kehityksen piirteitä ja toimintatapoja, avoimeen lähdekoodikehitykseen osallistujien motivaatioita sekä arvioidaan avoimen lähdekoodin hyviä ja huonoja puolia. Lisäksi tutkielmassa verrataan avointa lähdekoodikehitystä kaupalliseen kehitykseen, ja pohditaan kaupallisuuden ja avoimen lähdekoodin yhdistämistä. Myös avoimelle lähdekoodille oleellisia lisenssejä käsitellään. Näitä osa-alueita peilataan esimerkkien avulla avoimen lähdekoodin piirto-ohjelmiin GIMP:iin ja Kritaan.
