Illusions of Friendship? The Soviet Union and Russia in the Finnish Press

Abstract: The image of the Soviet Union and Russia has changed dramatically in the press in Finland after the World War II. This article is based on a frequency analysis in which mentions of certain countries, groups of states and international organizations were coded (like the Soviet Union/Russia, United States, NATO, UN etc.). To make the analysis more revealing and interesting, a distinction was made whether the mention was made in the context of (1) alliance, friendship and cooperation, or in the context of (2) distance, restriction and enemy image, or (3) both in a positive and in a negative context. An experimental and theoretical study of a heptacoordinated tungsten(VI) complex of a noninnocent phenylenediamine bis(phenolate) ligand

[W(N2O2)(HN2O2)] (H4N2O2 = N,N′-bis(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)-1,2-phenylenediamine) with a noninnocent ligand was formed by reaction of the alkoxide precursor [W(eg)3] (eg = the 1,2-ethanediolate dianion) with two equivalents of ligand. The phenol groups on one of the ligands are completely deprotonated and the ligand coordinates in a tetradentate fashion, whereas the other ligand is tridentate with one phenol having an intact OH group. The molecular structure, magnetic measurements, EPR spectroscopy, and density functional theory calculations indicate that the complex is a stable radical with the odd electron situated on the tridentate amidophenoxide ligand. Oxidovanadium(v) complexes with l-proline-based amino acid phenolates

L-proline was used to prepare chiral, tridentate amino acid phenol proligands H2L1—4. These proligands react with vanadium precursors VO(acac)2, VOSO4 ∙ 5 H2O and VO(OPr)3 in methanol to form the corresponding oxidoalkoxidovanadium(V) complexes 1—4. The complexes crystallize from methanol, and are octahedrally coordinated with a general formula [VO(L1—4)(OMe)(MeOH)]. In solution, however, they adopt several different conformations or isomeric structures depending on the solvent. peerReviewed
Synthesis and structural characterization of new transition metal complexes of a highly luminescent amino-terpyridine ligand

The synthesis, NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopy measurements and X-ray diffraction analysis of four new metal complexes of the amino terpyridine ligand 4́-[4-(4-aminophenyl)phenyl]-2,2́:6́,2́́-terpyridine L, namely [FeL2](ClO4)2 (1), [ZnL2](ClO4)2 (2), [CdL2](ClO4)2 (3) and [PtMe3IL] (4), are reported. The X-ray crystal structures of complexes 1-3 are 1:2 metal:ligand structures with tridentate ligands decorated around the octahedral metal centers. In complex 4, with L in a bidentate coordination mode, the Pt(IV) coordinated methyl and iodine groups form a fac-arrangement. Tutkimukseni tarkoituksena oli selvittää, millaisia oppisisältöjä ammatillisen perusasteen äidinkielen oppikirjoissa on ja miten niissä yhdistetään äidinkieltä ammattiopintoihin. Lisäksi tarkas-telin, miten kirjoissa olevat sisällöt vastaavat opetussuunnitelman perusteissa olevia keskeisiä sisältöalueita ja oppimistavoitteita. Tutkimukseni pääaineistona oli kolme oppikirjaa. Tekemällä taitavaksi on yleisesti ammattioppilaitoksille tarkoitettu oppikirja. Tehtävänä äidinkieli on tehty erityisesti tekniikan ja liikenteen aloja opiskelevia ajatellen. We examine the organisational identity of a Finnish single-faculty technical university in the context of a merger process with a comprehensive multi-disciplinary university and a university of applied sciences. Keskustelu Euroopan sosiaalisen mallin ympärillä käy kuumana. Integraation syveneminen ja Euroopan unionin kasvustrategia edellyttävät jäsenmailta kansallisten työ-, talous- ja sosiaalipoliittisten järjestelmien tehokasta kehittämistä, eikä kriittisistä äänenpainoista ole ollut pulaa. Eurooppalaisen ay-liikkeen mukaan EU on asettanut kilpailukyvyn tärkeimmäksi arvokseen ja jättänyt työntekijät unhoon. Työnantajapuoli puolestaan kritisoi unionia ja sen jäsenmaita siitä, ettei kilpailukyvyn eteen ole tehty vieläkään tarpeeksi.
