Atrioventricular node ablation (AVNA) is generally reserved for patients whose atrial fibrillation (AF) is refractory all other therapeutic options, since the recipients will often become pacemaker dependent. Different wearable biosignal measurement applications require minimally obtrusive and highly sensitive sensors and methods of transducing the heart pulse into an electric signal. At the same time, the sensors should have minimal power consumption and preferably provide information about more than just the heart rate. The effects of the tricyclic antidepressants desipramine, doxepin and iprindole on the isolated perfused rabbit heart.

The right sympathetic nerves of isolated perfused rabbit hearts were stimulated electrically (1 msec, supramaximal strength, 15 sec) with increasing frequencies (0.25–20 Hz) at 3 min intervals before and 20 min after starting perfusion with desipramine, doxepin or iprindole. Ventricular rate, right atrial and right ventricular tensions were recorded using the transverse method. 2. GENETIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL VARIATION IN PERCEIVED EXERTION AND HEART RATE DURING BICYCLE ERGOMETER WORK

The relative contributions of heredity and environment to the variance in heart rate (HR) and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) during the bicycle ergometer work were studied with 14 pairs of male (6 monozygous (MZ) and 8 dizygous (DZ)) and 22 pairs of female (8 MZ and 14 DZ) twins ranging in age from 11 to 20 years. The results showed for both sexes that no significant differences in the intrapair variances of HR and RPE could be observed between the MZ and DZ twin samples. Thus it was concluded that in contrast to several other parameters of the measurements of the physical work capacity HR and RPE are not influenced to any significant degree by the genetic factors.

Cardiovascular and Autonomic Responses to a Maximal Exercise Test in Elite Youngsters

AbstractTo analyze cardiovascular and autonomic responses in elite youngsters, 13 male cyclists (15.43±0.51 years) performed a graded-test until voluntary exhaustion. Oxygen consumption (VO2), blood lactate (BLa), arterial oxygen saturation (SaO2), respiratory exchange ratio (RER) and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were collected, while heart rate (HR) was registered for heart rate variability (HRV) analyses, looking for linear and nonlinear comparisons.
