Growth and anisotropic ripening in twinned colloidal crystals

The heterogeneous crystallization of colloidal suspensions of Yukawa particles on a wall was observed by Bragg microscopy. The growth velocity ν 110 of the fluid-crystal interface can be very well described by a Wilson-Frenkel growth law, while the limiting velocity is found to be lower than in previous investigations. Twinned bcc domains in lateral direction (parallel to the wall) and their ripening behavior are for the first time investigated systematically. A strong anisotropic growth behavior is found: in the direction of the shear flow, which shear melts the suspension prior to the crystallization process, the extension of the domains is much larger than perpendicular to that. Ferroelastic transition in Kbr:Kcn studied by neutrons, x-rays and ultrasonic

The ferroelastic phase transition of (KBr) 0 27 (KNC) 0.73 has been studied by X-ray diffraction, ultrasonics and inelastic neutron scattering. It is the first example of a cubic crystal where the elastic shear constant C 44 softens completely corresponding to the m = 2 universality class. C 44 and the Bragg intensities show a non-classical critical behaviour.

Experimental Studies Regarding the Mechanical Behaviour of Silicon-Coated and Uncoated P.A. 6.6 Fabrics

These paper aims to present an experimental study for determining the mechanical properties of woven fabrics used for airbags manufacturing. In order to realise the study, there were chosen two types of fabric, one that is coated with silicon and one that is uncoated. The experimental tests that were carried out were uniaxial tension tests for samples extracted on the warp and on the weft direction, the Bias test, a test specific for shear loads and the dome test, a test specific for biaxial loads. Magneto-elastic oscillations and the damping of crustal shear modes in magnetars

In a realistic model of magneto-elastic oscillations in magnetars, we find that crustal shear oscillations, often invoked as an explanation of quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) seen after giant flares in soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs), are damped by resonant absorption on timescales of at most 0.2s, for a lower limit on the dipole magnetic field strength of 5 10 13 G. At higher magnetic field strengths (typical in magnetars) the damping timescale is even shorter, as anticipated by earlier toy-models. To relate the practical relevance of our study results, specific requirement profiles for individual procedures have been correlated to the desired physicochemical characteristics. Healon®5 demonstrated the statistically significant highest zero shear viscosity of all OVD and a long relaxation time (Dick et al., 2000). It therefore most effectively creates and maintains a deep anterior chamber in order to facilitate safe surgical maneuvers (e.g., in case of vitreous pressure). Rheological Characterization of Low-calorie Milk-based Salad Dressings

Oil-in-water emulsions of different quantitative composition, containing milk powder and locust bean gum. as stabilizing agents, showed similar rheological behavior: time-dependent thixotropic character and yield stress. Thixograms obtained for each sample could be modelled through the Hahn equation for the different shear rates. The analysis of the Hahn parameter variation for each sample as a function of shear rate led to a function σ= f(γ, t). Predicted shear stress values had relative errors lower than 10% in 99.9% of the samples studied. Amorphous Silica at Surfaces and Interfaces: Simulation Studies

The structure of surfaces and interfaces of silica (SiO2) is investigated by large scale molecular dynamics computer simulations. In the case of a free silica surface, the results of a classical molecular dynamics simulation are compared to those of an ab initio method, the Car—Parrinello molecular dynamics. This comparative study allows to check the accuracy of the model potential that underlies the classical simulation. Flexible magnetic filaments in a shear flow

By flexible magnetic filament model its behavior under the simultaneous action of the shear flow and the magnetic field is investigated. It is found that for magnetoelastic numbers larger as the critical value, which depends on the shear rate, the periodic regime is established. For the values of the magnetoelastic number close to the critical the periodical regime is characterized by a rather slow development of the buckling instability due to the action of magnetic torques with the subsequent stage of the fast straightening of the filament. Effects of shear flow on the structure and dynamics of ionic liquids in a metallic nanoconfinement.

It has been shown that a weak shear can induce crystallisation in a disordered, glassy state. In this study, we use molecular dynamics simulations in order to investigate the out-of-equilibrium properties of [BMIM][BF4] confined between metal slabs. In particular, we want to understand the extent to which the shear flow modifies the interfacial properties. In particular, the questions we address here are (i) is the shear able to promote the crystalline phase in [BMIM][BF4]? Study on Consumer Attitudes for Sheep Meat Consumption

Abstract This paper presents data on sheep breeding in Romania and on a international level. The main objectives of the national breeding program will be presented. A study has been conducted to find out how consumers perceive buying sheep meat and their attitudes towards it. Strong effort is needed to promote the consumption of sheep meat, which will lead to the support of the sheep sector. It is necessary to form a strong consumer preference for sheep meat by communicating the positive (natural product) and durable characteristics of the product.
