Remote estimation of blood pulse pressure via temporal tracking of reflected secondary speckles pattern

2011

We present a novel technique for remote noncontact blood pulse pressure measurement. It is based on tracking both temporal and amplitude changes of reflected secondary speckle produced in human skin when illuminated by a laser beam. The implemented technique extracts the difference between the systolic and the diastolic blood pressure. Experimental results are presented showing good agreement when compared with conventional measurement methods.

Visualization of alveolar recruitment in a porcine model of unilateral lung lavage using3He-MRI

2009

BACKGROUND: In the acute respiratory distress syndrome potentially recruitable lung volume is currently discussed. (3)He-magnetic resonance imaging ((3)He-MRI) offers the possibility to visualize alveolar recruitment directly. METHODS: With the approval of the state animal care committee, unilateral lung damage was induced in seven anesthetized pigs by saline lavage of the right lungs. The left lung served as an intraindividual control (healthy lung). Unilateral lung damage was confirmed by conventional proton MRI and spiral-CT scanning. The total aerated lung volume was determined both at a positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) of 0 and 10 mbar from three-dimensionally reconstructed (3)H…

Cardiovascular effects of the methanol and dichloromethanol extracts fromTeucrium flavum L.

1998

The effects on arterial blood pressure and heart rate of the methanol and dichloromethanol extracts from Teucrium flavumL. were analysed in urethane anaesthetized rats. Mean arterial blood pressure was significantly reduced by the i.v. administration of both extracts to normotensive rats. The methanol extract also induced a decrease in the heart rate, while the dichloromethanol extract lacked any effect on this parameter. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Effects on Arterial Blood Pressure of Methanol and Dichloromethanol Extracts fromJuniperus oxycedrus L.

1997

The present study analysed the effect of the methanol and dichloromethanol extracts from Juniperus oxycedrus on arterial blood pressure in anaesthetized rats. The arterial blood pressure of normotensive rats was significantly reduced by the i.v. administration of both extracts. The hypotensive effect of these extracts was independent of the adrenergic system. These results may explain the vasorelaxing actions observed in other Juniperus species.

Effects on Arterial Blood Pressure of the Methanol and Dichloromethanol Extracts from Schinus molle L. in Rats

1996

The effects on arterial blood pressure of the methanol and dichloromethanol extracts from Schinus molle L. were analysed in urethane anaesthetized rats. In normotensive rats, the mean arterial blood pressure was significantly reduced by the i.v. administration of both extracts. The dichloromethanol extract inhibited the effects of noradrenaline on arterial blood pressure in the anaesthetized rat and it reduced the maximal contractile effect (Emax) induced by noradrenaline on rat vas deferens in the organ bath. However, the methanol extract did not modify the effects of noradrenaline in the evaluated tests.

Cardiovascular effects of the methanol and dichloromethanol extracts fromTeucrium cartaginenses L.

1998

Methanol and dichloromethanol extracts of the leaves and stems of Teucrium cartaginensesL. have been tested for their effects on resting arterial blood pressure, heart rate and noradrenaline induced hypertension. Both extracts administered i.v. to urethane anaesthetized normotensive rats reduced mean arterial blood pressure and heart valve, while only the dichloromethanol extract prevented noradrenaline induced hypertension. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Long-term treatment with the ace inhibitor captopril, alone or in combination with hydrochlorothiazide, in elderly hypertensives: Effects on blood pr…

1993

Abstract The efficacy and tolerability of long-term treatment with the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor captopril was evaluated in elderly hypertensive subjects. One hundred thirty patients were studied (61 men and 69 women; mean age, 68.33 ± 5.49 years), all with mild to moderate arterial hypertension (mild = 90–105 mmHg; moderate = 105–115 mmHg). Patients with secondary hypertension were excluded from the study. After a 2-week drug washout, patients were given captopril 25 to 100 mg/day alone or in combination with hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) 25 mg/day for 15 weeks. After 2 weeks of treatment, significant decreases in systolic and diastolic blood pressures were observed (P

Zur Frage der Beziehungen zwischen enddiastolischem Ventrikeldruck unddp/dt bzw.d 2 p/dt 2 der Ventrikeldruckkurve des Herzens

1969

Correlations between left ventricular enddiastolic pressure of the heart and first and second derivation of left ventricular pressure curve (dp/dt, d2p/dt2 respectively) were examined at various hemodynamic conditions. The results showed only a particular dependence ofdp/dt andd2p/dt2 from enddiastolic pressure. Therefore, it is concluded, that enddiastolic pressure is not the most important factor, which influences the dynamics of ventricular contraction.
