Continuous subcutaneous Insulin infusion leads to immediate, table, and long-term changes in metabolic control
2008
Background: Evaluations of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) usually focus on one pre- and one post-CSII measurement to assess metabolic therapy outcome. Aim: Extending this research, the aim of the present study was to provide a more fine-grained analysis of achieved glycaemic control. Methods: In 52 patients with type 1 diabetes (mean age of 37.85 years at CSII begin; s.d. ± 12.41), haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels were assessed every 3 months over a period of 5 years (1 year before and 4 years after the introduction of CSII). Mixed models were utilized to describe changes in glycaemic control. Results: The pre–post course showed that already in the first quarter, a statis…
Reopening the Conversation Between Music Psychology and Music Therapy : A Survey of Interdisciplinary Attitudes
2021
Although the fields of music psychology and music therapy share many common interests, research collaboration between the two fields is still somewhat rare. Previous work has identified that disciplinary identities and attitudes towards those in other disciplines are challenges to effective interdisciplinary research. The current study explores such attitudes in music therapy and music psychology. A sample of 123 music therapists and music psychologists answered an online survey regarding their attitudes towards potential interdisciplinary work between the two fields. Analysis of results suggested that participants’ judgements of the attitudes of members of the other discipline were not alw…
Factors Affecting Digital Tool Use in Client Interaction According to Mental Health Professionals : Interview Study
2023
Background: Digital tools and interventions are being increasingly developed in response to the growing mental health crisis, and mental health professionals (MHPs) considerably influence their adoption in client practice. However, how MHPs use digital tools in client interaction is yet to be sufficiently understood, which poses challenges to their design, development, and implementation. Objective: This study aimed to create a contextual understanding of how MHPs use different digital tools in clinical client practice and what characterizes the use across tools. Methods: A total of 19 Finnish MHPs participated in semistructured interviews, and the data were transcribed, coded, and inductiv…
Gender differences in usage and user experience of Oiva App
2015
Previous research has indicated that gender is an important demographic to consider when designing effective and tailored technology interventions. Despite this need, gender differences is still an understudied topic in the field of technology interventions. The objective of this study was to study gender differences in usage and user experience of a mental wellness app called Oiva. Gender differences in the app’s effect on the participants’ mental well-being were also investigated. Oiva is a stand-alone mental wellness app that aims to increase its users’ psychological flexibility by teaching Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) based skills. The study population of the current study wa…
The Role of Fc Receptors on the Effectiveness of Therapeutic Monoclonal Antibodies.
2021
Since the approval of the first monoclonal antibody (mAb) in 1986, a huge effort has been made to guarantee safety and efficacy of therapeutic mAbs. As of July 2021, 118 mAbs are approved for the European market for a broad range of clinical indications. In order to ensure clinical efficacy and safety aspects, (pre-)clinical experimental approaches evaluate the respective modes of action (MoA). In addition to antigen-specificity including binding affinity and -avidity, MoA comprise Fc-mediated effector functions such as antibody dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and the closely related antibody dependent cellular phagocytosis (ADCP). For this reason, a variety of cell-based assays have…
Exosomal HSP60 levels and related miRNAs in brain tumors
In cancer, Extracellular Vesicles (EVs), such as exosomes, contribute to tumor progression by regulating local and systemic parameters. Since exosomes are released into body fluids, they may be used in nanomedicine as a valuable source of diagnostic biomarkers. The prognosis of brain tumors is poor even after surgical resection followed by post-operatory chemo- and radio-therapies and it is cogent to find innovative treatments. The discovery that molecular chaperones can be determinant factors in tumorigenesis and the increasing understanding of exosomes, particularly in what refers to their release by tumor cells and contents, including chaperones and miRNA, provide elements to develop nov…
Ustekinumab therapy changes the transcriptional activity pattern of TGF-β1–3 genes
2019
Introduction One of the examples of genes whose expression can be altered by the action of ustekinumab is TGF-β. It is a pleiotropic cytokine whose activity affects psoriatic changes and the state of homeostasis of the whole organism. Aim To evaluate the effect of ustekinumab on the transcriptional activity of TGF-b family genes in patients with psoriatic arthritis and to check whether the results obtained can be helpful in monitoring the progress of treatment. Material and methods From total PBMCs obtained from peripheral blood of 14 patients with psoriatic arthritis, total RNA was isolated. The expression level of the TGF-β1, TGF-β2 and TGF-β3 genes was determined by RT-qPCR in real time.…
Identity development meets emotional stability : transcending borders through music therapy with an intercultural group of women : a case study
2016
Based on previous investigation, research has revealed the implications of music therapy in women, intercultural groups, and the cultivation of identity and emotional stability. However, the research conducted on the amalgamation of these factors is deficient. The purpose of this case study is to explore the effects of music therapy on the emotional stabilization and development of identity in an intercultural group of women. The umbrella terms of identity development and emotional stability will be dissected based on the sub-themes that have emerged from the therapeutic needs of the intercultural group of individuals involved. Six women from The Netherlands, Iran, China, Russia, Germany, a…
Exploring the practical framework of a multicultural music therapy group for children with emotional and behavioral needs in an after-school setting
2016
Research shows that music therapy is effective in addressing therapeutic goals for groups of children with emotional and behavioral needs. However, most of the current research focuses on behavioral approaches to music therapy with children, and lacks in-depth explanations of practical frameworks surrounding the process (i.e., organizing, planning and implementing a group) for non-directive children’s music therapy groups focused on emotional and behavioral needs in the school setting. The following case study explores the practical framework surrounding a multicultural music therapy group for children with emotional and behavioral needs at an elementary school in Jyväskylä, Finland. The ma…
