Synthesis, structure and magnetic characterization of a dinuclear and two mononuclear iron(III) complexes with N,O-donor Schiff base ligands
2018
Abstract One centrosymmetric dinuclear and two mononuclear iron(III) Schiff base complexes, [(µ-OMe)2Fe2(L1)2(N3)2] (1) {HL1 = 2-((2-(dimethylamino)ethylimino)methyl)-6-ethoxyphenol}, [FeL2(OH2)(N3)]·CH3OH (2) {H2L2 = N,N′-bis(3-ethoxysalicylidene)propane-1,3-diamine} and [FeL3(OH2)(NCS)]·2H2O (3) {H2L3 = N,N′-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)propane-1,3-diamine}, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and spectral studies. X-ray diffraction analysis was used to determine the structures of all three complexes. Variable temperature (2–300 K) magnetic susceptibility (χ) data of complex 1 show that both iron(III) centres in the complex are in a high spin configuration (S = 5/2)…
Rare trinuclear NiII2MII complexes (MII = Mn, Fe and Co) with a reduced Schiff base ligand: Synthesis, structures and magnetic properties
2018
Abstract Three new trinuclear hetero-metallic NiII2MII complexes with MII = Mn, Fe and Co have been synthesized using a [NiLR] “metalloligand”, where H2LR = N,N′-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-1,3-propanediamine. All complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic methods, single crystal XRD and magnetic and electrochemical studies. In the three complexes, in addition to the double phenoxido bridges, the two terminal NiII atoms are linked to the central MII [M = Mn(1), Fe(2) and Co(3)] ion by means of a bridging carboxylato co-anion, giving rise to a linear NiII-MII-NiII structure. Variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements show the presence of weak ferromagnetic…

X-ray crystal structures of copper(II) and cobalt(II) complexes with Schiff base ligands. Reactivity towards dioxygen
2003
Copper(II) and cobalt(II) Schiff base complexes with derivatives of the pentadentate ligand bis(salicylideneimino-3-propyl)amine [H2salDPT] have been prepared. The X-ray crystal structures of the copper(II) complexes Cu[salDPT] and Cu[sal(n-propyltrimethylsilyl)DPT] were determined and revealed five-coordination at the metal centre in both cases. The 1 ∶ 1 dioxygen adduct of Co[sal(n-propyltrimethylsilyl)DPT] was also isolated and its X-ray molecular structure determined.
ATRP of Methacrylates Catalysed by Homo- and Heterobimetallic Ruthenium Complexes
2009
The catalytic activity of a series of ruthenium-based homo-and heterobimetallic complexes was determined by investigating the atom transfer radical polymerisation of methyl methacrylate. The complexes under investigation were [(arene)Ru(μ-Cl) 3 RuCl(C 2 H 4 )-(L)] (L = PCy 3 or a N-heterocyclic carbene ligand), [(p-cymene )-Ru(/l-Cl) 3 RuCl(=C=CHR)(PCy 3 )] (R = Ph or t-Bu), and [RuCl 2 -(p-cymene) {PCy 2 (CH2) 2 (n 5 -C 5 H 4 )TiX 2 (n 5 -C 5 H 5 )}] (X = Cl, F, and OBz). The catalytic activity of a variety of related [(p-cymene)-ClRu(μ-Cl) 2 Ru(O/\N)(=CHPh)] complexes (O^N is a Schiff base ligand) is also reported. The results clearly demonstrate that the ligands strongly affect the abili…
Unprecedented reactivity of a Schiff base ligand in the co-ordination sphere of copper(I) complex towards β-diketones. Synthesis and X-ray characteri…

International audience; The reactions of the copper(I) derivative [CuL(THF)(CH3CN)]PF6 (1), in which L is the di-imine/pyridine ligand 2,6-bis[1-(2,6-diisopropylphenylimino)ethyl]pyridine, with different β-diketones (2,4-pentanedione (acacH), 1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedione (dbm)) yielded the new Cu(I) salt [CuL′2]PF6 (2) (L′: 2-[acetyl]-6-[1-(2,6-diisopropylphenylimino)ethyl]pyridine). These reactions of β-diketones with a di-imine/pyridine ligand co-ordinated to a Cu(I) centre constitute the first example of a partial hydrolysis of such a Schiff base within the inner sphere of a Cu centre. Compound 2·acaH has been characterised by X-ray crystallography. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All righ…
New complexes of Ni(II) and Co(III) with a Schiff-base ligand derived from o -vanillin. Crystal structure, magnetic and catalytic properties of a dis…
2018
Abstract A binuclear complex, [Ni2L2(NO3)(H2O)(CH3CN)]ClO4·CH3CN (1), has been obtained using a Schiff-base ligand (HL) derived from o-vanillin and 4-(2-aminoethyl)morpholine. The crystal structure of 1 has been solved. Both Ni(II) ions are hexacoordinated, but they display different coordination spheres. The exchange interaction between the two nickel ions is antiferromagnetic (J = −7.9 ± 0.2 cm−1; H = −JS1S2), in line with the DFT calculations. Compound 1 has been tested as a catalyst in the epoxidation of various olefins. The reaction of the same ligand with a mixture of cobalt(II) perchlorate and nitrate affords a mononuclear Co(III) complex, [CoL2(H2O)]ClO4·CH3OH (2).
Double azido/cyanato bridged copper(II) dimers incorporating tridentate nitrogen donors Schiff base: Structure, EPR and magnetic studies
2015
Abstract A neutral tridentate nitrogen donor Schiff base ligand L (L = (E)-N-(phenyl(pyridin-2-yl)methylene)-2-(pyridin-2-yl)ethanamine) has been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic techniques, and employed to synthesize two new μ1,1-azido/cyanato bridged dinuclear copper(II) complexes, [Cu(L)(μ1,1-N3)(ClO4)]2 (1) and [Cu(L)(μ1,1-NCO)(ClO4)]2 (2). Both compounds have been spectroscopically and structurally characterized. Structural investigation reveals centro-symmetric nature of the complexes in which the center of inversion lies at the midpoint of the two copper(II) ions. The metal ions display distorted octahedral geometry. The tridentate neutral ligand L coordinates the metal…
A Series of MIICuII3 Stars (M = Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn) Exhibiting Unusual Magnetic Properties
2014
The work in this report describes the syntheses, electrospray ionization mass spectromtery, structures, and experimental and density functional theoretical (DFT) magnetic properties of four tetrametallic stars of composition [M(II)(Cu(II)L)3](ClO4)2 (1, M = Mn; 2, M = Ni; 3, M = Cu; 4, M = Zn) derived from a single-compartment Schiff base ligand, N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,4-butanediamine (H2L), which is the [2 + 1] condensation product of salicylaldehyde and 1,4-diaminobutane. The central metal ion (Mn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), or Zn(II)) is linked with two μ2-phenoxo bridges of each of the three [Cu(II)L] moieties, and thus the central metal ion is encapsulated in between three [Cu(II)L] units. …
A ferromagnetic tetranuclear nickel(II) Schiff-base complex with an asymmetric Ni4O4 cubane core
2014
Abstract The ferromagnetic tetranuclear nickel(II) complex [Ni4(L)4(CH3OH)2]·2MeOH·8H2O (1) has been synthesized by reacting nickel nitrate hexahydrate with the Schiff base ligand H2L (H2L = N-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-methoxy-salicylideneamine). Complex 1 was characterized by analytical, thermogravimetric, optical and magnetic techniques. The solid state structure of 1 was established by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Crystal structure determination shows the formation of a distorted Ni4O4 cubane moiety encapsulated by four Schiff base ligands. Compound 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P 1 ¯ with a = 12.7624(9) A, b = 15.0477(9) A, c = 16.8589(10) A, α = 94.732(2)°, β = 94…
