Time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman-scattering measurements of I2 in solid Kr: vibrational dephasing on the ground electronic state at 2.6-32 K.
2005
Time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman-scattering (CARS) measurements are carried out for iodine (I2) in solid krypton matrices. The dependence of vibrational dephasing time on temperature and vibrational quantum number v is studied. The v dependence is approximately quadratic, while the temperature dependence of both vibrational dephasing and spectral shift, although weak, fits the exponential form characteristic of dephasing by pseudolocal phonons. The analysis of the data indicates that the frequency of the pseudolocal phonons is approximately 30 cm(-1). The longest dephasing times are observed for v = 2 being approximately 300 ps and limited by inhomogeneous broadening. An increase in…
Measurement of edge residual stresses in glass by the phase-shifting method
2011
Abstract Control and measurement of residual stress in glass is of great importance in the industrial field. Since glass is a birefringent material, the residual stress analysis is based mainly on the photoelastic method. This paper considers two methods of automated analysis of membrane residual stress in glass sheets, based on the phase-shifting concept in monochromatic light. In particular these methods are the automated versions of goniometric compensation methods of Tardy and Senarmont. The proposed methods can effectively replace manual methods of compensation (goniometric compensation of Tardy and Senarmont, Babinet and Babinet–Soleil compensators) provided by current standards on th…
Phase shifting photoelasticity in white light
2007
The availability of image acquisition systems has led to the development of digital photoelasticity both in monochromatic and white light. In particular white light has been used mainly with the following methods: Spectral Content Analysis, RGB photoelasticity and phase shifting photoelasticity. Phase shifting photoelasticity in the colour domain has been used effectively for the determination of the isoclinic parameter in order to reduce the influence of the isochromatic fringes. The method has been also proposed for the determination of the isochromatic fringe order. This paper concerns the general characteristics of phase shifting photoelasticity in the colour domain. Special attention i…
A critical assessment of automatic photoelastic methods for the analysis of edge residual stresses in glass
2014
The measurement of residual stresses is of great importance in the glass industry. The analysis of residual stresses in the glass is usually carried out by photoelastic methods since the glass is a photoelastic material. This article considers the determination of membrane residual stresses of glass plates by digital photoelasticity. In particular, it presents a critical assessment concerning the automated methods based on gray-field polariscope, spectral content analysis, phase shifting, RGB photoelasticity, “test fringes” methods and “tint plate” method. These methods can effectively automate manual methods currently specified in some standards.
Intramolecular charge transfer in elongated donor-acceptor conjugated polyenes
1995
Abstract Intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) has been investigated by electro-optical absorption measurements for two series of donor-acceptor polyenes of increasing length. Each molecule undergoes an increase in dipole moment upon photoexcitation. The experimental results indicate that lengthening the polyenic chain linking the donor and acceptor end groups results in a bathochromic shift of the ICT absorption band and induces marked increases of both excited state and transition dipoles, whereas the ground-state dipole is relatively unaffected. As a result, marked photoinduced changes in the dipole moment (up to 33 D) were obtained with the longest molecules (up to 27 A) leading to highl…
Recombination processes in unintentionally doped GaTe single crystals
2002
Emission spectra of GaTe single crystals in the range of 1.90–1.38 eV have been analyzed at different temperatures and excitation intensities by photoluminescence, photoluminescence excitation, and selective photoluminescence. A decrease in band gap energy with an increase in temperature was obtained from the redshift of the free exciton recombination peak. The energy of longitudinal optical phonons was found to be 14±1 meV. A value of 1.796±0.001 eV for the band gap at 10 K was determined, and the bound exciton energy was found to be 18±0.3 meV. The activation energy of the thermal quenching of the main recombination peaks and of the ones relating to the ionization energy of impurities and…
Recombination luminescence in aluminum nitride ceramics
2013
Photoluminescence (PL) and afterglow luminescence (AGL) produced by UV laser irradiation with varied intensity were studied in AlN ceramics in the 10–300 K temperature range. Luminescence spectra of AlN ceramics contain the UV–blue band built up of two components – the UV (3.18 eV) and Blue (2.58 eV) bands, which are presumably ascribed to recombination luminescence involving oxygen-related centers in the bulk and on the surface of AlN, correspondingly. It was found that position of the emission band maximum of AlN ceramics depends on such factors as excitation density, temperature, and delay time after excitation ceasing – in the case of AGL. In PL spectra, the excitation density growth pr…
Optical properties of ultrathin Al2O3/ZnO nanolaminates
2015
Abstract Because of their high resistance against ultraviolet and high energy particles, ultrathin amorphous nanolaminates can be very attractive for aerospace application. Here we report on the optical and structural properties of ultrathin Al2O3/ZnO nanolaminates deposited by Atomic Layer Deposition. Structural properties of nanolaminates were studied by GIXRD and AFM. Optical characterization was performed by transmittance, spectroscopic ellipsometry and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Regression analysis of ellipsometric spectra has shown that absorption peak decreases and blue shifted with the decrease of bilayer thickness in the stack. On the basis of the analysis of structural a…

MIUSCAT: extended MILES spectral coverage - II. Constraints from optical photometry
2012
In the present work we show a comprehensive comparison of our new stellar population synthesis MIUSCAT models with photometric data of globular clusters and early-type galaxies. The models compare remarkably well with the colours of Milky Way globular clusters in the optical range. Likewise, the colours of M31 globular clusters can also be explained by the models by assuming younger ages then their Galactic counterparts. When compared with quiescent galaxies we reproduce the colour evolution at intermediate redshift. On the other hand we find that the colour relations of nearby early-type galaxies are still a challenge for present-day stellar population synthesis models. We investigate a nu…
