Treatment of acute rejection of cadaveric renal allografts with rabbit antithymocyte globulin.

In a prospective randomized single-blind trial, we compared the effectiveness of rabbit antithymocyte globulin (RATG) in the treatment of acute renal graft rejection with the results of treatment by high oral doses of prednisone. Twenty recipients of cadaveric kidneys were included in each group. In the RATG group, the prednisone dose was not increased and a dose-by-rosette protocol was used to keep T cell levels between 50 and 150/mm3. In this group 15 of the 20 patients responded to the treatment. One of these patients lost her kidney afterward because of a technical failure. Treatment of Vaginal Trichomoniasis with a Single Dose of Tinidazole

SummaryTwenty-two patients with proven vaginal trichomoniasis were treated with a single dose of 2 g. tinidazole. Twenty-one patients were cured, at both the early and the late follow-up visits. No side-effects were noted and no abnormalities of the clinical laboratory parameters were found in the trial. A historical comparison with published works was carried out and the results compared favourably with those found in the literature for tinidazole as well as for other agents used in a similar fashion.

This paper aims to describe the cultural and communicational traits of Finnish oral health care. First, employees' views and experiences regarding their organization and their position within it are investigated and, second, relations between different individual and organizational factors are analyzed. The data from 58 hips in 29 myelodysplastic children with L3 paralysis has been reviewed retrospectively. Posterolateral transfer of the iliopsoas (Sharrard technique) was performed on all hips to correct muscle imbalance between 1975 and 1992. The average length of follow-up was 21 years. Preoperatively, 58.6% of the hips were either subluxated or dislocated (these were surgically reduced at the same stage). Radiological assessment revealed that 91.4% of the hips were stable at preschool age and 84.5% in adolescence. Of the patients 86% were functional walkers at preschool age and 75.8% in adolescence. In 2005 four outstanding multiple burials were discovered near Eulau, Germany. The 4,600-year-old graves contained groups of adults and children buried facing each other. Skeletal and artifactual evidence and the simultaneous interment of the individuals suggest the supposed families fell victim to a violent event. In a multidisciplinary approach, archaeological, anthropological, geochemical (radiogenic isotopes), and molecular genetic (ancient DNA) methods were applied to these unique burials. We compared the obesity parameters and selected adipokines—leptin, adiponectin, and resistin—in obese patients with hypertension and normotensive patients. A total of 67 nondiabetic obese outpatients were divided into 2 groups: A–hypertensive and B–normotensive. Serum levels of leptin, adiponectin, resistin, and insulin were measured. Weight, height, waist circumference, and hip circumference were measured to calculate waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), weight-to-height ratio, visceral adiposity index, and body adiposity index (BAI). A solid-phase ELISA was set up to measure the direct binding capacity (BC) of different, commercially available, purified human IgA preparations to plates coated with human fibronectin (FN). It was found that secretory, polymeric, and, to a much lesser extent, monomeric IgA exhibited elevated FN-BC as compared to their BC to plates coated with bovine serum albumin. This binding was specific since not observed with human IgG or IgM antibodies.
