Significant in life : Core learning outcomes of a social and emotional course in physical education teacher education
2022
The purpose of the study is to explore physical education (PE) students’ social and emotional learning (SEL) and the meaningful learning experiences during the SEL course. In the teaching profession, understanding SEL is important because the guidance of learning and group dynamics is essentially an interactive social process. Further, previous research shows that focusing on socioemotional skills promotes students’ academic achievement. Teachers’ SEL skills can be developed by training. In PE teacher education annually, 60 first-year-students participate in a 20-hours SEL skills course based on Gordon’s interaction model and SEL concepts. The course consists of practising SEL skills such a…
Teknostressi häiritsee keskittymistä, unta ja ihmissuhteita, mutta sen torjumiseen on keinonsa
2022
Teknologian liiallisen käytön aiheuttama stressi eli teknostressi kuormittaa monia työssä ja vapaa-ajalla. Vaikka esimerkiksi sosiaalisen median käyttäminen tuntuu ihmisistä usein mukavalta, pitkän päälle se myös tuottaa stressiä, heikentää keskittymiskykyä ja vie energiaa muulta elämältä. Teknostressiä voi kuitenkin lievittää muutamalla yksinkertaisella keinolla. nonPeerReviewed
Singing is what we do (together) - redefining "together" : A comparative study
2021
This article discusses the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on singing with children in schools by providing a descriptive analysis of a comparative look at children's experiences of their singing habits and emotional well-being during the first Covid-19 lockdown. Covid-19 has established itself as (for now) an ever-present variable in our daily lives. This paper offers a descriptive analysis of a comparative study of the Covid-19 lockdown(s) influence on children's singing habits and emotional well-being in Italy, Austria, and Finland. A survey was carried out on children and young people aged 10-20 from Austria, Finland, and Italy on how the Coronavirus lockdown has impacted thei…

Tutkimusta lasten kanssa
2023
Artikkelissa tarkastellaan lasten ja tutkijoiden välisiä sukupolvisuhteita tutkimustoiminnassa. Tutkimusmenetelmänä ja tutkijoihin kohdistuvana pedagogisena menetelmänä käytetään kollaboratiivista autoetnografiaa. Artikkelissa hyödynnetään Pierre Bourdieun episteemisen refleksiivisyyden ajatusta eli tutkijan ja tutkittavien suhteiden ja asemien kriittistä arviointia. Lisäksi tutkimustoiminnassa toteutuvia sukupolvisuhteita tarkastellaan eksistentiaalisen, episteemisen ja juridis-eettisen ulottuvuuden avulla. Tutkimusaineisto koostuu tutkijoiden kirjoittamista autoetnografisista teksteistä sekä lapsille suunnattujen työpajojen litteraateista. Analyysi osoittaa, miten tärkeää on hahmottaa las…

2021
Publisher Copyright: © 2021 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. The concept of pedagogy is the key to understanding pedagogy in early childhood education (ECE) in the Nordic countries, which are known for their high quality of life and education. However, in ECE, there are several different approaches toward pedagogy and it can be said that pedagogy is a multidimensional and dynamic concept. In this paper, the different approaches to pedagogy are defined and reconceptualized through an integrative literature analysis focusing on scientific papers and research reports of the concept. Five approaches to pedagogy were constructed: pedagogy through interaction, pedagogy through s…
Relational expertise among Finnish educators working in extended hours ECEC
2023
This study examined discourses and positions produced by educators (n = 31) on the topics of teamwork and professional expertise in extended hours early childhood education and care (ECEC). Theoretically, we follow the ideas of relational expertise and common knowledge. Previous research provides that relational expertise and creating common knowledge are useful in ECEC contexts, especially in teamwork. The data were collected by interviewing educators, and discursive psychology was applied in the analysis of the data. As results, we found two discursive tensions. In relation to teamwork the tension was working alone versus working in a team. In the topic of professional expertise, the tens…
