Plasma Hyperosmolality Prolongs QTc Interval and Increases Risk for Atrial Fibrillation in Traumatic Brain Injury Patients
2020
Introduction: Hyperosmotic therapy with mannitol is frequently used for treatment cerebral edema, and 320 mOsm/kg H2O has been recommended as a high limit for therapeutic plasma osmolality. However, plasma hyperosmolality may impair cardiac function, increasing the risk of cardiac events. The aim of this study was to analyze the relation between changes in plasma osmolality and electrocardiographic variables and cardiac arrhythmia in patients treated for isolated traumatic brain injury (iTBI). Methods: Adult iTBI patients requiring mannitol infusion following cerebral edema, and with a Glasgow Coma Score below 8, were included. Plasma osmolality was measured with Osmometr 800 CLG. Spatial Q…
Segmental dyskinesia in Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome: A possible cause of dilatative cardiomyopathy
2006
Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) is a syndrome characterized by the presence of an accessory pathway that skipping A-V node may lead the electrical stimulus from the atrium directly to the ventricle. Some studies reported the finding of myocardial dyskinesia in the segments precociously activated by the accessory pathway, at echocardiogram and at nuclear cardiac study. Soria et al. reported, in 1985, an increased incidence of dilative cardiomyopathy in patients with WPW. The pathophysiological pathway that leads to ventricular dilation may be due to the increase of end-diastolic pressure secondary to a tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy. Tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy is usually secondary to…
The cholesterol paradox in atrial fibrillation: results from the LIPIDOGRAM 2015 study
2020
Abstract Background High blood lipid levels are known risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular events, but associations between lipid levels and atrial fibrillation (AF) are unclear. Some previous studies have suggested an inverse association between lipid levels and AF referred to as the “cholesterol paradox”. Purpose To examine the prevalence of AF by differing lipid levels in a large population-based study of almost 14,000 adults in Poland. Methods The LIPIDOGRAM 2015 study is a cross-sectional study of adults aged 18 years and older recruited in Poland in 2015/2016 by 438 family physicians. Poisson regression models with robust variance were used to estimate prevalence ratios (PR…
IL RITORNO DEL RIMOSSO. CARL SCHMITT E L’ULTIMO HABERMAS
2018
In this essay, I propose to look at Habermas’ recent work like an implicit recognition of the theoretical value of some Carl Schmitt’s ideas. Regardless of the harsh criticism that Habermas manifests towards Schmitt’s political theology in his latest essays.
Tra immanenza e trascendenza. Saggi teologico-politici su e oltre Carl Schmitt
2019
2021
n this article I propose to point out some important affinities between Carl Schmitt and Augusto Del Noce. These two important catholic thinkers understood the profound relationship between atheism and technique. This topic is very interesting to understand the "spiritual" genesis of the "affluent society" and, above all, to understand an important aspect that has led to the affirmation of the ideology of neoliberalism. These topics are fundamental to current catholic philosophical thought, which after Vatican CouncilII has to confront Modernity.

Synthesis, biological evaluation, and: In silico studies of novel chalcone: In pyrazoline-based 1,3,5-triazines as potential anticancer agents
2020
A novel series of triazin-chalcones (7,8)a-g and triazin-N-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)pyrazolines (9,10)a-g were synthesized and evaluated for their anticancer activity against nine different cancer strains. Triazine ketones 5 and 6 were synthesized from the cyanuric chloride 1 by using stepwise nucleophilic substitution of the chlorine atom. These ketones were subsequently subjected to a Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction with aromatic aldehydes affording chalcones (7,8)a-g. Then, N-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)pyrazolines (9,10)a-g were obtained by cyclocondensation reactions of the respective chalcones (7,8)a-g with 3,5-dichlorophenylhydrazine. Among all the evaluated compounds, chalcones 7d,g and 8g…
A theoretical and experimental study of the formation mechanism of 4-X-chalcones by the Claisen–Schmidt reaction
2000
Abstract A theoretical and experimental study on the formation of 4-X-chalcones (X=H, Cl, F, OCH3, N(CH3)2) was carried out by the Claisen–Schmidt reaction. The influence of pH and temperature was analyzed. Under the adopted experimental conditions 4-X-chalcones were the only reaction products. In the theoretical study, the thermodynamic magnitudes and the reactivity indexes calculated with the AM1 method were used. The mechanism of Nayak and Rout was analyzed critically and a new mechanism was proposed, characterized by: (1) rapid nucleophilic attack of the catalyst (OH−) on the carbon atom of the methyl group of acetophenone; (2) attacks of the acetophenonate ion on the carbon atom of the…
