Abstract The problem of mass transfer in ducts with transpiring walls is analysed: the concepts of “solvent” and “solute” fluxes are introduced, all possible sign combinations for these fluxes are considered, and relevant examples from membrane processes such as electrodialysis, reverse osmosis and filtration are identified. Designing digital well-being of senior citizens

In this paper, we illustrate a concrete case to apply the Life-Based Design approach to identifying human goals for technology to achieve. We focus on a form-of-life method of design, which seeks to reach a mental state of “digital wellbeing.” Digital well-being aims to facilitate digitalization and changes in the digital environment, and to maximize the availability and accessibility of services. We evaluate the target group of senior citizens, who are facing an accelerating pace of digitalization of the services in their daily lives. A Novel Approach to Propagation Pattern Analysis in Intracardiac Atrial Fibrillation Signals

The purpose of this study is to investigate propagation patterns in intracardiac signals recorded during atrial fibrillation (AF) using an approach based on partial directed coherence (PDC), which evaluates directional coupling between multiple signals in the frequency domain. The PDC is evaluated at the dominant frequency of AF signals and tested for significance using a surrogate data procedure specifically designed to assess causality. For significantly coupled sites, the approach allows also to estimate the delay in propagation. This longitudinal study investigated the role of parents and peers as well as of education-related goal motivation during educational transitioning in late adolescence. The sample consisted of 1520 upper secondary education students attending either academic or vocational upper secondary school in Finland. They were surveyed three times: (1) in the first year of their upper secondary education, (2) in the second year of their upper secondary education, and (3) two years later. Due to their structural characteristics and their diversity, the 22 members of the protocadherin-gamma (Pcdhgamma) family have been suggested to contribute to the establishment of specific connections in the nervous system. Here, we focus on a single isoform, Pcdhgamma-b1. Its expression is found in different brain regions and in developing spinal cord it is restricted to scattered cells, whereas all cells are labeled using an antibody that recognizes all Pcdhgamma isoforms. Abstract A detailed study of the pseudostationary mercury electrode is presented, based on its use in LSV. Delay times ( t 1 ) as short as 20 ms can be employed; the drop area is still given by its classical expression, and minimization of the ohmic drop allows sweep rates of a few thousands of volts per second to be used. The conditions for pseudostationarity are given; the lower sweep rates utilizable are of the order of few tenths of volt per second. Ohmic drop effect on the voltammetric behaviour of graphite + polyethylene composite electrodes

Graphite + polyethylene composites can be used as electrodes in electrochemical experiments because of their low charging current in contrast with other composite electrodes. However, the results reveal that the ohmic drop must always be considered in the data analysis. The peak potential and the peak current are related through an expression deduced for a Nernstian process where the mass transport is controlled by diffusion. The determination of the uncompensated resistance implies also the calculation of the convolution of the current.
