Negli anni in cui s'impone come direttore d'orchestra e compositore il giovane Richard Strauss entra in contatto con Cosima Wagner e Gustav Mahler. In seguito collabora per quasi 25 anni con lo scrittore e drammaturgo Hugo von Hofmannstahl. L'articolo ricostruisce gli sviluppi di tali rapporti attraverso le lettere dei persoanggi coinvolti. In the years in which he established himself as conductor and composer, the Young Richard Strauss came into contact with Cosima Wagner and Gustav Mahler. Afterwards he collaborated for almost 25 years with Hugo von Hofmannstahl. The article reconstructs the developments of these relationships through the letters of the people involved.

Die Mischung von Begierde und Kunst ist für Hoffmanns Bildbeschreibung charakteristisch: Statuen, die lebendig werden, Mädchen, die versteinern, Gemälde, die ihre Betrachter unwiderstehlich anziehen, Gestalten, die ein Leben auf der Schwelle zwischen Wirklichkeit und Darstellung führen, all dies sind Motive, welche die Hoffmannsche Erzählkunst in großem Ausmaß darbietet. Doch es handelt sich hier nicht nur um die Überlagerung von Liebesobjekt und Gemälde, von Begierde und Kunst, sondern vor allem und ausdrücklich um eine lästerliche Überlagerung von religiöser Ikonen (Heilige, Engel, Madonnen) und Sexualobjekten.

Physical modelling of the melt flow during large-diameter silicon single crystal growth

Abstract The reported investigations concern physical modelling of Czochralski growth of silicon large-diameter single crystals. InGaSn eutectic was used as a modelling liquid, employing actual criteria of the real process (Prandtl, Reynolds, Grashof numbers, etc.) and geometric similarity. A multi-channel measuring system was used to collect and process the temperature and flow velocity data. The investigations were focused on the study of heat transfer, in particular, the instability of the “cold zone” of the melt at the crystallization front.

Voice and Culture: A Prospect Theory Approach

The present study examines the congruence of individuals' minimum preferred amounts of voice with the prospect theory value function across nine countries. Accounting for previously ignored minimum preferred amounts of voice and actual voice amounts integral to testing the steepness of gain and loss functions explicated in prospect theory, we use curve fitting to show that ratings of procedural justice fit prospect theory's value function specifically. The reaction enthalpy of hydrogen dissociation calculated with the Small System Method from simulation of molecular fluctuations.

We show how we can find the enthalpy of a chemical reaction under non-ideal conditions using the Small System Method to sample molecular dynamics simulation data for fluctuating variables. This method, created with Hill's thermodynamic analysis, is used to find properties in the thermodynamic limit, such as thermodynamic correction factors, partial enthalpies, volumes, heat capacities and compressibility. The values in the thermodynamic limit at (T,V, μj) are then easily transformed into other ensembles, (T,V,Nj) and (T,P,Nj), where the last ensemble gives the partial molar properties which are of interest to chemists. The Stachys L. genus has been used in traditional medicine to treat skin inflammations, stomach disorders, and stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the chemical profile and biological activity of the methanolic extract of Stachys spreitzenhoferi Heldr. (Lamiaceae) aerial parts, collected on the island of Kythira, South Greece.
