Honeycomb supported Co3O4/CeO2 catalysts for CO/CH4 emissions abatement: effect of low Pd-Pt content on the catalytic activity

Abstract A structured Co3O4–CeO2 composite oxide, containing 30% by weight of Co3O4, has been prepared over a cordieritic honeycomb support. The bimetallic, Pd–Pt catalyst has been obtained by impregnation of the supported Co3O4–CeO2 with Pd and Pt precursors in order to obtain a total metal loading of 50 g/ft3. CO, CH4 combined oxidation tests were performed over the catalyzed monoliths in realistic conditions, namely GHSV = 100,000 h−1 and reaction feed close to emission from bi-fuel vehicles. The Pd–Pt un-promoted Co3O4–CeO2 is promising for cold-start application, showing massive CO conversion below 100 °C, in lean condition. Evidence for Graphene Edges Beyond Zigzag and Armchair

The edges of nanoscopic objects determine most of their properties. For this reason the edges of honeycomb carbon--always considered either zigzag- or armchair-like--need special attention. In this report we provide experimental evidence confirming a previous unexpected prediction: zigzag is a metastable edge, as its planar reconstruction lowers energy and forms the most stable graphene edge. Our evidence is based on re-analyzing a recent experiment. Since the reconstructed edge, along with other unconventional edges we discuss, has distinct chemical properties, this discovery urges for care in experiments and theory--we must enter the realm beyond zigzag and armchair.

The 2D honeycomb-like layered iron(iii)–nickel(ii) cyanidebridged complex [Ni(cyclam)]3[Fe(CN)6]2·nH2O exhibits ferromagnetic intralayer and antiferromagnetic interlayer interactions; above 3 K the magnetic properties are typical of a metamagnet with Hc = 5000 G, whereas below 3 K a canted structure is formed, leading to a long range ferromagnetic ordering. Paper-reinforced biomimetic cellular structures for automotive applications

The aim of this work was to make and test some sandwich structures, made of biomimetic cellular cores of recycled paper. In a preliminary study some paper laminates were investigated. Then two different kinds of cores were made by simple processes, according to two natural structures (i.e. feather and honeycomb). To evaluate the mechanical properties of these new sandwiches, static flexural, flatwise and edgewise compression tests were performed.

Non-contact ultrasonic inspection of skin/core bond in honeycomb with lamb waves

The assessment of skin/core bond in honeycomb samples was carried out by a bistatic ultrasonic non-contact system. Lamb waves were generated by a Nd:YAG pulsed laser and detected by an air-coupled capacitance transducer located in pitch-catch configuration. Periodically spaced line sources, generated on the sample surface using a four element lenticular array, allowed generation of narrow-band directional Lamb waves. Changes in amplitude of the transmitted signal permitted detection of skin/core disbonds.

The influence of the rubber carboxyl functionality on the processability and properties of solid rubber modified epoxy mixtures

A high molecular weight, carboxyl functionalised solid rubber was added to an epoxy resin-aromatic amino system developed for autoclave curing of honeycomb core composite structures. The achievement of an optimal balance of viscous flow and viscoelasticity of the resin, by controlling the nature and extent of cross-linking of the functionalised rubber, was proposed as a route to void-free honeycomb skins. New Results on the Mixed General Routing Problem

[EN] In this paper, we deal with the polyhedral description and the resolution of the Mixed General Routing Problem. This problem, in which the service activity occurs both at some of the nodes and at some of the arcs and edges of a mixed graph, contains a large number of important arc and node routing problems as special cases. Here, a large family of facet-defining inequalities, the Honeycomb inequalities, is described. Furthermore, a cutting-plane algorithm for this problem that incorporates new separation procedures for the K-C, Regular Path-Bridge, and Honeycomb inequalities is presented. Finite-temperature geometric properties of the Kitaev honeycomb model

We study finite temperature topological phase transitions of the Kitaev's spin honeycomb model in the vortex-free sector with the use of the recently introduced mean Uhlmann curvature. We employ an appropriate Fermionisation procedure to study the system as a two-band p-wave superconductor described by a BdG Hamiltonian. This allows to study relevant quantities such as Berry and mean Uhlmann curvatures in a simple setting. More specifically, we consider the spin honeycomb in the presence of an external magnetic field breaking time reversal symmetry.
