The final complete product owns the qualities of both the components (glassblock and DSC module) that are optimized to produce clean energy. Effect of Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Surface Chemistry and Morphology on Titanium Hexafluoride Pretreatment

Titanium hexafluoride pretreatments are known to improve paint adhesion and function as a barrier between the coating and the hot dip galvanized (HDG) steel surface. Interactions at the zinc/pretreatment interface are of utmost importance for the formation of pretreatment layers and the corrosion resistance of color coated hot dip galvanized steels. Removal rate of inert aluminum oxide from HDG steel samples by chemical dissolution was studied. XPS measurements showed that the surface Al2O3 layer thickness decreased rapidly already at mild alkaline cleaning, while complete removal of Al required severe etching. Priming effect increases with depth in a boreal forest soil

Abstract Climate warming increases labile carbon (C) inputs to soil through increased photosynthesis and C allocation belowground. This could counterintuitively lead to losses of soil C via priming effects (PE): the stimulation of soil organic matter (SOM) decomposition caused by labile C addition. Systematic quantification of PEs in different ecosystems is needed. We measured PEs of free-living soil microbes in different layers of a boreal forest soil, and found that the relative magnitude of the PE increased with soil depth. Comparing proton momentum distributions in A = 2 and 3 nuclei via 2H 3H and 3He (e,e′p) measurements

We report the first measurement of the $(e,e'p)$ reaction cross-section ratios for Helium-3 ($^3$He), Tritium ($^3$H), and Deuterium ($d$). The measurement covered a missing momentum range of $40 \le p_{miss} \le 550$ MeV$/c$, at large momentum transfer ($\langle Q^2 \rangle \approx 1.9$ (GeV$/c$)$^2$) and $x_B>1$, which minimized contributions from non quasi-elastic (QE) reaction mechanisms. The data is compared with plane-wave impulse approximation (PWIA) calculations using realistic spectral functions and momentum distributions. The measured and PWIA-calculated cross-section ratios for $^3$He$/d$ and $^3$H$/d$ extend to just above the typical nucleon Fermi-momentum ($k_F \approx 250$ …

Measurement of an Excess in the Yield of J/ψ at Very Low pT in Pb-Pb Collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

We report on the first measurement of an excess in the yield of J=ψ at very low transverse momentum (pT < 0.3 GeV=c) in peripheral hadronic Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN=2.76  TeV, performed by ALICE at the CERN LHC. Remarkably, the measured nuclear modification factor of J=ψ in the rapidity range 2.5 <y< 4 reaches about 7 (2) in the pT range 0–0.3 GeV=c in the 70%–90% (50%–70%) centrality class. The J=ψ production cross section associated with the observed excess is obtained under the hypothesis that coherent photoproduction of J=ψ is the underlying physics mechanism. Proteins are the molecular players of fine-tuned regulatory pathways that underlie the behavior of any cell type. Derangement of this wide protein circuitry has a profound effect on cell life and ultimately contributes to the development of diseases such as cancer. New proteomic technologies are rapidly evolving to define and characterize the nodes of this altered protein network, both inside and outside cancer cells. Hopefully, these technologies will become user-friendly laboratory tools to improve cancer management from early detection to the development of rational and patient-tailored therapeutic strategies.

Exploring fast proton transfer events associated with lateral proton diffusion on the surface of membranes

Proton diffusion (PD) across biological membranes is a fundamental process in many biological systems, and much experimental and theoretical effort has been employed for deciphering it. Here, we report on a spectroscopic probe, which can be tightly tethered to the membrane, for following fast (nanosecond) proton transfer events on the surface of membranes.
