Structural and functional models for the dinuclear copper active site in catechol oxidases

Two new mu-methoxo-bridged dinuclear copper(II) complexes with a N-substituted sulfonamide, [Cu(mu-OMe)(L)(NH(3))](2) (1) and [Cu(mu-OMe)(L)(DMSO)](2) (2) [HL, N-2-(4-methylbenzothiazole)benzenesulfonamide], have been prepared and characterized by single-crystal X-ray difraction analyses. Compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C(2)/c with a=22.0678(18), b=7.9134(7), c=21.1186(18)A, beta=113.788(4) degrees and Z=8. Compound 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C(2)/c with a=18.0900(10), b=9.5720(10), c=24.2620(10) A, beta=98.7120(10) degrees and Z=8. Susceptibility of Methyl 3-Amino-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxylate to Acylation

Abstract In the search for a new method of synthesis of hybrid peptides with aminopyrazole carboxylic acid, we tried to force selective acylation at the aromatic amino group instead of at the ring nitrogen atom with fairly gentle acylating agents. The acylating agents used were acid anhydrides: acetic anhydride, tert-butyl pyrocarbonate, and 2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethoxyacetic acid/dicyclohexylcarbodiimide. We succceded in acylation at this amino group with almost none at the ring nitrogen atom. Sometimes, however, acylation in small quantities at the ring nitrogen atom was observed as a by-product. A number of foreign compounds induce the proliferation of the hepatic smooth endoplasmatic reticulum and thereby increase the activity of monooxygenases that metabolize drugs and other foreign compound. With reference to the safety of food additives some antioxidants have been examined by various authors for their inducing capacity, in doses well above those ingested with treated food and above the stipulated accepted daily intake (ADI). A comparison of the behaviour on the nitrosation of the isomers 5-(2-methoxyphenyl)- (1a) 5-(3-methoxyphenyl)- (1b) and 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)2,3-diphenylpyrroles (1c) carried out in the usual way with iso-amyl nitrite in a solution of sodium ethoxide in ethanol evidences that 1a is dramatically less reactive with respect to 1b and 1c. The different reactivity was ascribed to the occurrence of a strong hydrogen bond involving pyrrole NH and the ortho-methoxy group.

Methyl substituted bisindolylcarbenium ions 1 react with some O- and C-nucleophiles regioselectively. The cations 1b, 1c yield with hydroxide ions the tetraindolyldimethyl ether 4 and with methoxide ions the bisin-dolylmethoxymethanes 5. Compounds 1a, 1b, 1c react with several methylindoles to isomeric bis- and trisin-dolylmethanes. An electrophilic reactivity order of cations 1 can be derived supporting on the experimental results.

Selective C-H Activation of Methoxy Groups in a Three-Component Photoreaction.

Surprisingly, the photocatalytic activation of ethers by H-abstraction and addition of the generated radicals to iminium ions formed in situ from aldehydes and anilines predominantly yielded the products of methoxy activation for dimethoxymethane and 1,2-dimethoxyethane. Various anilines and aromatic as well as aliphatic aldehydes are suitable reaction partners for this three-component photoreaction (Porta-type process) which also provides a simple access to 1,2-aminoalcohols.
