'Good to Repeat': Making Random Access Near-Optimal with Repeated Contentions
2020
Recent advances on WLAN technology have been focused mostly on boosting network capacity by means of a more efficient and flexible physical layer. A new concept is required at MAC level to exploit fully the new capabilities of the PHY layer. In this article, we propose a contention mechanism based on Repeated Contentions (ReCo) in frequency domain. It provides a simple-to-configure, robust and short-term fair algorithm for the random contention component of the MAC protocol. The throughput efficiency of ReCo is not sensitive to the number of contending stations, so that ReCo does not require adaptive tuning of the access parameters for performance optimization. Efficiency and robustness is …
Photografted methacrylate-based monolithic columns coated with cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) for chiral separation in CEC
2018
A chiral capillary monolithic column for enantiomer separation in capillary electrochromatography was prepared by coating cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) on porous glycidyl methacrylate-co-ethylene dimethacrylate monolith in capillary format grafted with chains of [2(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride. The surface modification of the monolith by the photografting of [2(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride monomer as well as the coating conditions of cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) onto the grafted monolithic scaffold were optimized to obtain a stable and reproducible chiral stationary phase for capillary electrochromatography. The effect o…

Towards the standardization of mitochondrial proteomics: the Italian mt-HPP initiative
2017
The mitochondrial Human Proteome Project aims at understanding the function of the mitochondrial proteome and its crosstalk with the proteome of other organelles. Being able to choose a suitable and validated enrichment protocol of functional mitochondria, based on the specific needs of the downstream proteomics analysis, would greatly help the researchers in the field. Mitochondrial fractions from ten model cell lines were prepared using three enrichment protocols and analyzed on seven different LC-MS/MS platforms. All data were processed using neXtProt as reference database. The data are available for the Human Proteome Project purposes through the ProteomeXchange Consortium with the iden…
Collimation of energy in medium-modified QCD jets
2012
The collimation of energy inside medium-modified jets is investigated in the leading logarithmic approximation of QCD. The Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) evolution equations are slightly modified by introducing splitting functions enhanced in the infrared sector. As compared to elementary collisions in the vacuum, the angular distribution of the jet energy is found to broaden in QCD media.
Potential of municipal sewage treatment plants to remove bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate
2004
Sanna Marttinen tutki väitöskirjatyössään muovin pehmentimenä käytettävän DEHP-kemikaalin pitoisuuksia ja käyttäytymistä yhdyskuntajätevedenpuhdistamolla. Täyden mittakaavan puhdistamoilla tehtyjen tutkimusten sekä laboratorio- ja pilot-kokeiden avulla Marttinen selvitti puhdistamojen kykyä poistaa DEHP:a jätevesistä ja siten vähentää DEHP:n ympäristökuormitusta. The removal of bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) at municipal sewage treatment plants (STPs) was studied at full-scale plants and in experiments carried out with sewage, reject water and sludge containing native DEHP. DEHP concentration in Finnish sewages was typically at a level of 100 µg/l. Most of the DEHP was sorbed to colloid…
Moodle spraudņa "lututor" administratoru un kuratoru funkcionalitāte
2017
2018
Dotā kvalifikācijas darbā ietverta Moodle spraudņa “lututor” kuratoru pārvaldības un informēšanas rīku izstrāde. Spraudnis “lututor” – programmatūras produkts, kuram jākalpo noteiktam Moodle e-studiju vides lietotāju lokam. Šī spraudņa nolūks sniegt kuratoriem viegli pārskatāmu, no Moodle datu bāzes dažādām tabulām apvienotu, iepriekš šādā veidā nepasniegtu informācju. Līdz ar to spraudņa mērķis ir atvieglot kuratoru darbību. Kurators līdz ar to spēj sekot līdzi studentu sekmēm, aktivitātēm, laicīgi veikt darbības kuras spēj uzlabot, stimulēt studenta studiju gaitu.

Defective Induction of COX-2 Expression by Psoriatic Fibroblasts Promotes Pro-inflammatory Activation of Macrophages
2019
Fibroblasts play an important role as members of the innate immune system through the secretion of COX-2-derived inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandin E-2 (PGE(2)). However, it has been described that dermal fibroblasts behave like mesenchymal stem cells reducing lymphocyte recruitment and dendritic cell activation through PGE(2) release. As the role of fibroblasts in psoriasis remains poorly characterized, in the present study we have evaluated the possible influence of PGE(2) derived from dermal fibroblasts as modulator of the immune response in psoriatic skin. Our results indicate that under inflammatory conditions, psoriatic fibroblasts showed defective induction of COX-2, which …
