Background: In Germany, more than one-third of donor corneas harvested are not suitable for transplantation. We evaluated the factors associated with the usability of donor corneas. Method: Data from 2032 consecutive donor corneas harvested at the Rhineland-Palatinate Eye Bank in Mainz, Germany, were retrospectively analyzed. In a prospective, double-blind randomized trial the efficacy and safety of low molecular weight heparin and un fractionated heparin were compared for the prevention of post operative deep vein thrombosis in patients undergoing major surgery for breast and pelvic cancer. Three hundred fifty-eight patients were randomly allocated to the two treatment groups. Thirty-four of these were excluded from the study. Of the re maining 324 patients, 164 received 5000 IU unfractionated heparin three times daily and 160 received 3000 anti-Xa units of low molecular weight heparin once daily. The review aims to document the new emerging hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kp) endogenous endophthalmitis (EKE) in terms of incidence, microbiological characterization of the pathogenic agent, associated risk factors, management, and outcomes. Hypervirulent (hv) strains of KP (hvKp) induce invasive liver abscesses (LA) with specific clinical features. Up to 80–90% of cases have hepatic liver abscess as a primary focus of infection, followed by renal or lung hvKp infections. Selectins control the first step in immune cell adhesion and extravasation, thereby guiding leukocyte trafficking to tissue lesions. We analyzed four different highly specific selectin-binding glycopolymers, based on linear poly(2-hydroxypropyl)-methacrylamide (PHPMA) polymers.
