Helium-3 imaging of pulmonary ventilation.
1998
In the first studies in humans, the 3He gas was Helium is an inert, non-radioactive, noble gas. directly inhaled from the glass cell or via a mouth 3He is a rare isotope with a nuclear spin c. As it tip or plastic bag [2, 3]. The estimated inhaled is derived from tritium decay, it is quite expensive. volume in our studies was 400–500 ml. Recently, Non-polarized 3He costs 100–150 US$. Advanwe developed a computer-assisted application tages for applications in humans are: negligible system which is compatible with spontaneous solubility in water or blood, no adverse effects — breathing, assisted or mechanical ventilation. The widely used in deep-sea diving (80% He, 20% lungs can be flushed wi…
Spin‐Labeled Heparins as Polarizing Agents for Dynamic Nuclear Polarization
2010
A potentially biocompatible class of spin-labeled macromolecules, spin-labeled (SL) heparins, and their use as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) signal enhancers are introduced. The signal enhancement is achieved through Overhauser-type dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). All presented SL-heparins show high 1 H DNP enhancement factors up to E=-110, which validates that effectively more than one hyperfine line can be saturated even for spin-labeled polarizing agents. The parameters for the Overhauser-type DNP are determined and discussed. A striking result is that for spin-labeled heparins, the off-resonant electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) hyperfine lines contribute a non-negligible part…
Metal complexes of phenobarbituric acid. Chelating behavior of the phenobarbiturate ring. Anticonvulsant properties of the K2[Cu(N-methylphenobarbitu…
1992
Abstract Na2Ni(phenobarbiturato)4·3H2O, Na2Ni3(phenobarbiturato)2(OH)6·4H2O, and NaZn(phenobarbiturato)2(OH)·H2O derivatives were prepared from Ni(II) and Zn(II) and phenobarbital. The Na2Ni(phenobarbiturato)4·3H2O complex is diamagnetic and isostructural with the complex previously reported, Na2Cu(phenobarbiturato)4, suggesting a square-planar environment around the Ni(II) ion. The DMF solutions of this complex show the existence of two species. The EPR spectra of the Cu(II) doped complex show the hyperfine and superhyperfine structures. The covalence parameters α2, β2, and δ2 show a strong bonding in the equatorial plane and suggests the formation of a [CuN4] chromophore. The anticonvulsa…
Synthesis and magnetic characterization of trans-dichloroplatinum blues with creatinine
1992
Abstract By reaction of trans -[Pt II Cl 4 ] 2− with the amidate ligand creatinine two new paramagnetic blue platinum complexes have been obtained, namely violet and green varieties. These complexes have been characterized from thermal analysis, EPR and magnetic susceptibility. The violet complex has been formulated as trans -[Pt(creat)(H 2 O)Cl] 4 Cl. This compound has shown to be very stable, showing an extensive hyperfine structure in the powder EPR spectra. This result is a clear evidence of a tetranuclear oligomeric structure with one delocalized unpaired spin in the unit. EPR spectra in frozen solutions indicate that this mixed-valence complex maintains its oligomeric structure upon d…
S29i attribution of the 1.3 mT hyperfine structure of the E′γ centers in amorphous SiO2
2009
We report an experimental investigation by electron paramagnetic resonance of the doublet of lines split by ∼1.3 mT and centered on the E′γ; center resonance line in the spectrum of irradiated amorphous SiO2 . Commercial and sol-gel materials, some of which subjected to hydrogen-deuterium exchange, were investigated. Exposure to γ or Β rays at room temperature of the samples and subsequent thermal treatments were carried out to induce the defects and to study their thermal stability. In all the materials used the ratio between the signal of the E′γ centers and that of the 1.3 mT doublet is constant and independent of the OH and OD contents. Furthermore, the 1.3 mT doublet and the E′γ center…
Magnetic properties and61Ni Mössbauer spectroscopy of the ternary phosphide CrNiP
2008
The results of x-ray diffraction, dc magnetization, and 61Ni Mossbauer spectroscopy studies of the ternary phosphide CrNiP are reported. This compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic Co2P-type structure (space group Pnma) with the lattice parameters a = 5.7965(1) A, b = 3.5337(1) A, and c = 6.8123(2) A. NiCrP is a ferromagnet with Curie temperature TC = 135.1(1) K. The ferromagnetic-to-paramagnetic transition is characterized by the critical exponents β = 0.355(22), γ = 1.241(18), and δ = 4.585(20). Their values are close to those of a 3D Heisenberg ferromagnet. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility above TC follows the modified Curie–Weiss law with a paramagnetic Curie…
NMR study of magnetic order, metamagnetic transitions, and low-temperature spin freezing in Ca3Co2O6
2011
We report on a (59)Co NMR investigation of the trigonal cobaltate Ca(3)Co(2)O(6) carried out on a single crystal, providing precise determinations of the electric field gradient and chemical shift tensors, and of the internal magnetic fields at the nonmagnetic Co I sites, unavailable from former studies on powders. The magnetic-field-induced ferri-and ferromagnetic phases at intermediate temperature (e.g., 10 K) are identified by distinct internal fields, well accounted for by purely dipolar interactions. The vanishing transferred hyperfine field at the Co I site indicates that the Co(3+) (I) orbitals do not participate in the intrachain superexchange, in disagreement with a previous theore…

Level-crossing spectroscopy of the 7, 9, and10D5∕2states ofCs133and validation of relativistic many-body calculations of the polarizabilities and hyp…
2007
We present an experimental and theoretical investigation of the polarizabilities and hyperfine constants of D{sub J} states in {sup 133}Cs for J=3/2 and 5/2. Experimental values for the hyperfine constant A are obtained from level-crossing signals of the (7,9,10)D{sub 5} at {sub {approx}}{sub sol{approx}} at {sub 2} states of {sup 133}Cs and precise calculations of the tensor polarizabilities {alpha}{sub 2}. The results of relativistic many-body calculations for scalar and tensor polarizabilities of the (5-10)D{sub 3} at {sub {approx}}{sub sol{approx}} at {sub 2} and (5-10)D{sub 5} at {sub {approx}}{sub sol{approx}} at {sub 2} states are presented and compared with measured values from the …
On simfitting MER Mössbauer data to characterize Martian hematite
2010
Mossbauer spectra of Eagle Crater outcrop rocks in Meridiani Planum were acquired by the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Opportunity. Sixty spectra, containing ~20 to 60% hematite by area, were simultultaneously fit (simfit) in a self-consistent manner to a single chi-squared minimum, where relations among parameters from different spectra were defined for both sol (Martian day) and acquisition temperature (200–280 K). Different spectral models were compared, hematite being modeled optimally with two sextets. Sextet S1 (~35% of total sextet area) has narrower linewidths, a larger magnetic hyperfine field, and a quadrupole shift that changes smoothly from positive to negative values as the temp…
