The Art of Pacifying an Aggressive Client: ‘Feminine’ Skills and Preventing Violence in Caring Work

This article explores the complex interconnection between gender and emotion in the context of client-perpetrated violence at work, focusing on interviews with and writings by Finnish nurses and social workers to discuss the ‘feminine’ emotional skills that are supposed to prevent violence. The social formation of these skills is analysed with the concept ‘emotional habitus’: emotional skills derive from the socially acquired disposition to manage emotions according to the gendered values of caring work. Eckfeld Maar: Window into an Eocene Terrestrial Habitat in Central Europe

: To mark the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Rheinische Naturforschende Gesellschaft in 2009 and of the centennial of the Mainz Natural History Museum in 2010, we present a short account of our present knowledge of the Eckfeld Maar after 20 years of continuous research. This paper does not attempt to include all of the detailed results on the geology of the Eckfeld site or its biota. Abstract From the northern part of Chukotka Region (Russian Far East) and Nether-Polar Urals, one of the oldest and one of the most northerly occurrences of mosasaur remains in the world are recorded. The appearance of mosasaurs at high latitudes could be explained by the expansion of their habitat and an unusual balance of insolation. Polar day conditions could have been useful for marine predators such as mosasaurs because they could have hunted for prey at any time. The taxonomic status of the subfamily Trigonirhynchiinae is discussed based on the morphological features, together with the geographic and the stratigraphic distribution of the type genus Trigonirhynchia Cooper. The new genus, Ferronirhynchia n. gen., including the type species F. pulgari n. sp., is proposed. The new taxon, close to Trigonirhynchia , occurs in upper Emsian beds of the Moniello Formation, in Asturias, serotinus/patulus conodont zones, Faunal Intervals 14 to 16a. The ontogeny and palaeoecology of F. pulgari are analyzed. Growth of the new species is bicyclic. Juvenile forms are low and biconvex displaying sharp commissures.
