Caffeic acid skin absorption: Delivery of microparticles to hair follicles

2019

Graphical abstract: Emulsions containing CA were prepared, one of which contain free CA and the other microencapsulated CA. They were applied to delimited area of skin. Subsequently the tape stripping and differential striping methods were applied.

Boundary-layer Flows Past an Hemispherical Roughness Element: DNS, Global Stability and Sensitivity Analysis

2015

Abstract We investigate the full three-dimensional instability mechanism arising in the wake of an hemispherical roughness element immersed in a laminar Blasius boundary layer. The inherent three-dimensional flow pattern beyond the critical Reynolds number is characterized by coherent vortical structures called hairpin vortices. Direct numerical simulation is used to analyze the formation and the shedding of hairpin packets inside the shear layer. The first bifurcation characteristics are investigated by global stability tools. We show the spatial structure of the linear direct and adjoint global eigenmodes of the linearized Navier-Stokes operator and use structural sensitivity analysis to …

Analysis of β2-agonists in cattle hair samples using a rapid UHPLC–ESI–MS/MS method

2016

A simple and efficient method was developed for simultaneous analysis of five illegal residual β2-agonists in cattle hair. β2-Agonists were quantified by ultra high performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionisation tandem mass spectrometry operating in positive multiple-reaction monitoring mode. The method was validated as quantitative confirmatory method according to the EU Decision 2002/657/EC: instrumental linearity, specificity, precision, recovery, decision limit (CCα) and detection capability (CCβ) were evaluated. The recovery were greater than 90% and the method appeared suitable for the control of these β2-agonists in cattle hair samples with LOQ values between …

Development of trust in the CEO-chair relationship

2017

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the trust development in the dyadic relationship of CEO and chair of the board. Design/methodology/approach A narrative approach is adopted to examine the meanings that CEOs and chairpersons give to trust in their relationship, and to explore trust as an evolving phenomenon that can increase or decline over the course of the relationship. The data include 16 CEO-chair dyads from Finnish limited companies. Findings The results suggest that trust may exist on different levels and evolve in various ways during the course of the relationship. Integrity and agreement on company strategy are proposed to form the foundation for trust in the CEO-chai…

Development and evolution of inner ear sensory epithelia and their innervation

2002

The development and evolution of the inner ear sensory patches and their innervation is reviewed. Recent molecular developmental data suggest that development of these sensory patches is a developmental recapitulation of the evolutionary history. These data suggest that the ear generates multiple, functionally diverse sensory epithelia by dividing a single sensory primordium. Those epithelia will establish distinct identities through the overlapping expression of genes of which only a few are currently known. One of these distinctions is the unique pattern of hair cell polarity. A hypothesis is presented on how the hair cell polarity may relate to the progressive segregation of the six sens…

Interactions in the network of Usher syndrome type 1 proteins

2004

International audience; Defects in myosin VIIa, harmonin (a PDZ domain protein), cadherin 23, protocadherin 15 and sans (a putative scaffolding protein), underlie five forms of Usher syndrome type I (USH1). Mouse mutants for all these proteins exhibit disorganization of their hair bundle, which is the mechanotransduction receptive structure of the inner ear sensory cells, the cochlear and vestibular hair cells. We have previously demonstrated that harmonin interacts with cadherin 23 and myosin VIIa. Here we address the extent of interactions between the five known USH1 proteins. We establish the previously suggested sans-harmonin interaction and find that sans also binds to myosin VIIa. We …
