Correlation between FIX genotype and pharmacokinetics of Nonacog alpha according to a multicentre Italian study
2016
Introduction Pharmacokinetic (PK) studies on recombinant FIX concentrate, Nonacog alpha, were conducted with different sampling time designs which gave rise to not complete and homogenous outcomes. In addition, patient's FIX genotype/PK relationship has never been investigated. Aim Investigate how different sampling times may affect PK parameters and try to find a FIX genotype/PK relationship. Patients and Methods A cohort pharmacokinetic, Nonacog Alpha single-dose, open-label, non-comparative study was conducted in eight Comprehensive Care Haemophilia Centres in Italy. Seventeen previously treated moderate or severe haemophilia B patients were enrolled. Factors IX:C one-stage clotting assa…
Serum concentrations of hydroxybupropion for dose optimization of depressed patients treated with bupropion.
2014
Background Bupropion is a dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor approved for the treatment of depression and smoking cessation. According to the recently published reviews, it is a candidate for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) to improve therapeutic outcomes and reduce risks of intolerability or intoxication. In practice, however, the use of TDM is limited due to the chemical instability of bupropion. This investigation sought to determine if the major, active, and chemically stable metabolite 4-hydroxybupropion is a suitable measure to guide antidepressant drug therapy with bupropion. Methods 4-Hydroxybupropion serum levels were measured using a newly developed and validated hig…
Tailoring the stealth properties of biocompatible polysaccharide nanocontainers.
2014
Fundamental development of a biocompatible and degradable nanocarrier platform based on hydroxyethyl starch (HES) is reported. HES is a derivative of starch and possesses both high biocompatibility and improved stability against enzymatic degradation; it is used to prepare nanocapsules via the polyaddition reaction at the interface of water nanodroplets dispersed in an organic miniemulsion. The synthesized hollow nanocapsules can be loaded with hydrophilic guests in its aqueous core, tuned in size, chemically functionalized in various pathways, and show high shelf life stability. The surface of the HES nanocapsules is further functionalized with poly(ethylene glycol) via different chemistri…
Scandium-44: Benefits of a Long-Lived PET Radionuclide Available from the 44Ti/44Sc Generator System
2011
(44)Ti/(44)Sc radionuclide generators are of interest for molecular imaging. The 3.97 hours half-life of (44)Sc and its high positron branching of 94.27% may stimulate the application of (44)Sc-labeled PET radiopharmaceuticals. This review describes the current status of (44)Ti production, (44)Ti/(44)Sc radionuclide generator development, post-processing of generator eluates towards medical application, identification of ligands adequate to Sc(III) co-ordination chemistry, proof-of-principle labeling of (44)Sc-DOTA-octreotides, investigation of in vitro and in vivo parameters, and initial applications for molecular imaging - both in small animals and humans.
Bioaccumulation of emerging contaminants in mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis): Influence of microplastics
2021
Coastal environments are heavily influenced by human activities. Chemical substances considered as emerging contaminants (ECs) are one of the most important indicators of the anthropic influence on the environment, and they have recently shown to interact with microplastics (MPs). Mussels are suitable for in-lab bioacumulation studies providing insight about the occurrence and fate of contaminants in the organisms. In this study, bioacummulation of 20 chemical substances catalogued as ECs, including pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), pesticides, and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in Mytilus galloprovincialis was assessed, with or without the influence of the presence of …
The beta-decay half-life of 48 130 Cd82 and its importance for astrophysicalr-process scenarios
1986
The s-decay half-life of130Cd has been measured and its importance as N=82 ‘waiting-point’ nucleus for astrophysical rapid neutron capture (r−) process scenarios is discussed.
Half-life measurements for neutron-rich Tc, Ru, Rh, and Pd isotopes. Identification of the new isotopesTc111,Ru113, andRh113
1988
The decays of three new neutron-rich nuclides $^{111}\mathrm{Tc}$, $^{113}\mathrm{Ru}$, and $^{113}\mathrm{Rh}$ have been observed at an on-line isotope separator facility. In addition, the beta decays of several other n-rich isotopes with Ag100 have been studied for the first time. The new half-lives reported in this work include: $^{111}\mathrm{Tc}$ [${T}_{1/2}$=0.30(3) s], $^{111}\mathrm{Ru}$ [2.12(7) s], $^{112}\mathrm{Ru}$ [1.75(7) s], $^{113}\mathrm{Ru}$ [0.80(10) s], $^{113}\mathrm{Rh}$ [2.72(22) s], and $^{118}\mathrm{Pd}$ [2.24(17) s]. In general, these results support the microscopic theoretical half-life predictions below Z=50.
Heavy isotopes of actinium: 229Ac, 230Ac, 231Ac and 232Ac
1973
Abstract By irradiation of 232Th with 150-MeV bremsstrahlung and with 14-MeV neutrons, three new neutron-rich isotopes of actinium, 230Ac, 231Ac and 232Ac, were produced and identified and the previously reported isotope, 229Ac, was confirmed. The actinium isotopes were chemically isolated by a fast procedure based on elution with α-hydroxyisobutyric acid from cation exchange resins. For 229Ac, a half-life of 62·7 ± 0·5 min and a β-ray energy of 1·14 ± 0·15 MeV were found; 35 γ-rays were observed, the strongest ones with the following energies and relative intensities: 135·3(34), 146·4(35), 164·6(100), 252·2(24), 261·9(39), 317·0(23), 539·9(20), 569·1(91), and 605·2 keV(23). For 230Ac, a ha…
Nuclear structure of (231)Ac
2008
The low-energy structure of 231Ac has been investigated by means of gamma ray spectroscopy following the beta-decay of 231Ra. Multipolarities of 28 transitions have been established by measuring conversion electrons with a mini-orange electron spectrometer. The decay scheme of 231Ra --> 231Ac has been constructed for the first time. The Advanced Time Delayed beta-gamma-gamma(t) method has been used to measure the half-lives of five levels. The moderately fast B(E1) transition rates derived suggest that the octupole effects, albeit weak, are still present in this exotic nucleus. The low-energy structure of 231 Ac has been investigated by means of γ ray spectroscopy following the β − decay of…
Clinical Translation and First In-Human Use of [44Sc]Sc-PSMA-617 for PET Imaging of Metastasized Castrate-Resistant Prostate Cancer
2017
Background: Various trivalent radiometals are well suited for labeling of DOTA-conjugated variants of Glu-ureido-based prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) inhibitors. The DOTA-conjugate PSMA-617 has proven high potential in PSMA radioligand therapy (PSMA-RLT) of prostate cancer as well as PET imaging when labeled with lutetium-177 and gallium-68 respectively. Considering the relatively short physical half-life of gallium-68 this positron emitter precludes prolonged acquisition periods, as required for pre-therapeutic dosimetry or intraoperative applications. In this context, the positron emitter scandium-44 is an attractive alternative for PET imaging. We report the synthesis of [44Sc…
