Complexes of organometallic compounds XXVIII. The solution chemistry of bis(acetylacetone)ethylenediimine adducts of organotin(IV) halides
1971
Abstract The nature of methanol solutions of a series of bis(acetylacetone)ethylenediimine adducts of organotin(IV) halides has been studied by electronic and PMR spectroscopy and by osmometry and conductivity. Effectively complete dissociation to the free ligand and solvated organotin(IV) halide moieties is inferred.
Cooperatively Enhanced Ion Pair Binding with a Hybrid Receptor
2015
A simple 18-crown-6-based bis-urea receptor R(1) was synthesized in three steps from a commercial starting material. The receptor's behavior toward anions, cations, and ion pairs was studied in solution with (1)H NMR, in solid state with single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and in gas phase with mass spectrometry. In 4:1 CDCl3/dimethyl sulfoxide solution the receptor's binding preference of halide anions is I(-) < Br(-) < Cl(-) following the trend of the hydrogen-bonding acceptor ability of the anions. The receptor shows a remarkable positive cooperativity toward halide anions Cl(-), Br(-), and I(-) when complexed with Na(+), K(+), or Rb(+). The solid-state binding modes of R(1) with alkali an…
Hansen theory applied to the identification of nonhazardous solvents for hybrid perovskite thin-films processing
2018
Abstract Metal-halide perovskites have become the most studied material for efficient next-generation solar cells, in part because of the possibility of depositing high quality semiconducting perovskites by simple solution-based methods. However, the majority of solvent systems implemented in literature for deposition of lead halide perovskites are hazardous to handle. Investigation of alternatives perovskite processing methods are hence key to safely upscale the perovskite photovoltaic manufacturing. In this manuscript we use the Hansen theory to find suitable nonhazardous solvents to solubilize two lead salts, PbBr2 and PbI2, used to fabricate the corresponding methylammonium (MA) lead ha…
As(III)/Sb(III)/Bi(III)–halide distances and stretching vibrations. An application of the Varshni relationship upon hypervalent group 15 compounds
1998
Abstract A Varshni treatment between stretching frequencies and bond lengths is given for 16 heterocycles of the types Hal–M(SCH 2 CH 2 ) 2 X and Hal–M(CH 2 CH 2 CH 2 ) 2 X (M=As/Sb/Bi, Hal=Cl/Br/I, X=O, S, NR). The intensities of the Raman emissions for the M–Hal bonds increase in the following order: Cl≪Br −1/2 , decrease in the following order: Cl>Br≫I. Practically, the Varshni constants are used to estimate the complementary quantity, stretching frequency or bond length, in 35 cases.
Toward luminescence vapochromism of tetranuclear AuI-Cu I clusters
2013
A family of triphosphine gold–copper clusters bearing aliphatic and hydroxyaliphatic alkynyl ligands of general formula [HC(PPh2)3Au3Cu(C2R)3]+ (R = cyclohexyl (1), cyclopentyl (2), But (3), cyclohexanolyl (4), cyclopentanolyl (5), 2,6-dimethylheptanolyl (6), 2-methylbutanolyl (7), diphenylmethanolyl (8)) was synthesized via a self-assembly protocol, which involves treatment of the (AuC2R)n acetylides with the (PPh2)3CH ligand in the presence of Cu+ ions and NEt3. Addition of Cl– or Br– anions to complex 8 results in coordination of the halides to the copper atoms to give neutral HC(PPh2)3Au3CuHal(C2COHPh2)3 derivatives (Hal = Cl (9), Br (10)). The title compounds were characterized by NMR …
Extraction of the fluoride-, chloride- and bromide complexes of the elements Nb, Ta, Pa, and 105 into aliphatic amines
1998
Abstract Previous studies of the halide complex formation of element 105 in HCl–HF mixtures and extractions into triisooctyl amine (TIOA) have been performed with the Automated Rapid Chemistry Apparatus, ARCA II. Element 105 was shown to be absorbed on the column from 12 M HCl–0.02 M HF together with its lighter homologues Nb, Ta and the pseudohomologue Pa. In elutions with 10 M HCl–0.025 M HF, 4 M HCl–0.02 M HF, and 0.5 M HCl–0.01 M HF, the extraction sequence Ta>Nb>105>Pa was observed and element 105 behaved very differently from its closest homologue Ta. As it is not possible within reasonable effort to model the many presumably mixed fluoride–chloride complexes involved in these studies…
Properties of new low melting point quaternary ammonium salts with bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide anion
2010
Eight new monocationic quaternary ammonium (QA) salts with the bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI) anion were prepared by metathesis using our previously reported QA halides as precursors. New salts were characterized both in liquid and solid state using 1 H and 13 C NMR techniques, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis together with X-ray diffraction and thermoanalytical methods. In addition, residual water content, viscosity and conductivity measurements were made for three of the roomtemperature ionic liquids (RTILs). The crystal structures of three compounds were determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Powder diffraction was used to study the crystallinity of the solid …
Antimony-121 Mössbauer and infrared spectral studies on 1,10-phenanthroline adducts of antimony(III) halides
1983
Abstract The syntheses of the mono-adducts of 1,10-phenanthroline with SbX 3 (X = F, Cl, Br) and PhSbI 2 are described. These compounds and the 1:1 adduct between 2,2′-bipyridine and PhSbI 2 have been characterized mainly in the solid state by infrared and Mossbauer spectroscopic techniques. The structures of the antimony trihalide complexes appear to be based on halogen bridged polymers in which the stereochemical activity of the lone pair of electrons varies with the halogen, the highest p-character of the lone pair being observed with the trifluoride adduct. Mossbauer results for the PhSbI 2 complexes suggest a ψ-octahedral stereochemistry with the lone pair and the Ph group in trans pos…
Organotin(IV) complexes ofN-[(2Z)-3-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-butenylidene]glycine
2003
Organotin(IV) derivatives of N-[(2Z)-3-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-butenylidene]glycine have been synthesized and characterized by 1H, 13C, 119Sn NMR, 119Sn Mossbauer, and IR spectroscopy along with elemental analyses. The di- and triorganotin(IV) complexes were readily obtained from the reactions of organotin halides and sodium/potassium N-[(2Z)-3-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-butenylidene]glycinate. The diorganotin compound reacted with Ph3SnCl in refluxing benzene to give the mixed organotin dinuclear complex of composition Ph2Sn(2-OC(CH3)-C(H)C(CH3)NCH2COO)·Ph3SnCl, which was characterized by single crystal X-ray structure determination. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Organometallic nucleophiles. Mechanism of halide displacement at saturated carbon by 2-pyridyl and 4-Pyridyl complexes [M(dmtc)(C5H4N-Cn)(L)] (M Pd…
1992
Abstract A mechanistic study is reported of nucleophilic halide substitution by pyridyl complexes [M(dmtc)C 5 H 4 N- C 2 )(L)] (M Pd or Pt; L PMe 3 , PEt 3 or PPh 3 ) and [Pd(dmtc)C 5 H 4 N- C 4 )(L)] (L PMe 3 or PPh 3 ) on organic halides XCH 2 R (X Cl or Br; R CHCH 2 , COMe, Ph, or CN) in various solvents, yielding the pyridylium derivatives [M(dmtc)1-CH 2 R)C 5 H 4 N- C 2 (L)] + and [Pd(dmtc)(1-CH 2 R)(C 5 H 4 N- C 4 (L)] + , respectively. The kinetics obey a second-order rate law: rate k 2 [XCH 2 R][Complex]. A similar rate law is observed for the analogous reactions involving 4-dimethyl-aminopyridine (4-dmapy) as the nucleophile. The effects of solvent and leaving group, a…
