Ziegler–Natta catalysts based on vanadium halides: a DFT study

2003

Abstract Ziegler–Natta ethylene insertion into the carbon–metal bond for a number of fragments containing vanadium on different oxidation states as well as the halogen ligands has been studied by means of DFT. It is shown that the complexation and insertion energies are strongly influenced by the charge on the transition metal atom and, to some extent, by the electronegativity of the halogen atom. Complexation energy varies in the range −129 to −159 kJ/mol for charged species and −64 to −77 kJ/mol for neutral ones. Insertion energy follows a similar pattern and ranges from −28 to −62 and −82 to −100 kJ/mol, respectively. The calculated values are compared with the experimental results and d…

Bismuth trihalide complexes with nitrogen and phosphorus chelating ligands

1985

Abstract Bismuth(III) halides react with 1,10-phenanthroline, 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde-2-pyridylhydrazone and diphenylphosphynoethane in methanol. A stoichiometry differing from 1:1 is found only for BiCl 3 (Phen) 1.33 and BiCl 3 (Dpe) 1.5 . Characterization of these compounds, which are not very soluble in common solvents, follows from analytical, mass and IR spectral data. In the low frequency region, the IR spectra proved to be useful to ascertain the presence of bridging halogens.

Polycondensed nitrogen heterocycles. Part 23. Pyrrolo[3,2-c]cinnolines by a japp-klingemann type reaction

1990

Pyrrolo[3,2-c]cinnoline derivatives were obtained by an unusual Japp-Klingemann reaction involving an intramolecular azadehalogenation on the pyrrole nucleus. Such an azadehalogenation represents the first example of Japp-Klingemann reaction in which the extrusion of positive chlorine ion is verified.

Reply to the “Comment by Delmelle et al. (2013) on ‘Scavenging of sulfur, halogens and trace metals by volcanic ash: The 2010 Eyjafjallajökull erupti…

2014

Abstract With this short communication we address the principal issues raised by Delmelle et al. (2014) in relation to the work of Bagnato et al. (2013) concerning the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajokull, Iceland. The principal conclusions of the work of Bagnato et al. (2013) include the observation that protracted gas-aerosol interaction in the plume promotes selective leaching of cation species from ash, with alkalis and Ca (and, among trace elements, Zn and Cu) being more rapidly re-mobilized (and transferred to soluble surface salts) relative to more inert elements (Mg, Ti). They also observed that adsorption onto ash surfaces is a major atmospheric sink of volcanic acidic gases, with 282…

Halogenido ligand exchange synthesis, spectroscopic properties and thermal behaviour of the inorganic–organic hydrogen-bonded network solid [4,4′-H2b…

2014

Abstract Dark-red single crystals of 4,4′-bipyridinium triaquahydrogen(1+) hexabromidorhodate(III) [4,4′-H2bipy][H7O3][RhBr6] (1) have been synthesized by a diffusion-controlled ligand exchange process from rhodium(III) chloride trihydrate and 4,4′-bipyridine dissolved in hydrochloric and hydrobromic acid, respectively. 1 could be considered as an inorganic–organic hydrogen-bonded network solid built up from the inorganic isolated hexabromidorhodate [RhBr6]3− octahedra, organic 4,4′-bipyridinium(2+) [4,4′-H2bipy]2+ and triaquahydrogen(1+) [H7O3]+ cations with nearly symmetrical O⋯O distances. The oppositely charged components in the structure of 1 are bound together by an intricate system o…

Can PBDEs affect the pathophysiologic complex of epithelium in lung diseases?

2020

Brominated flame-retardant (BFRs) exposure promotes multiple adverse health outcomes involved in oxidative stress, inflammation, and tissues damage. We investigated BFR effects, known as polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) (47, 99 and 209) in an air-liquid-interface (ALI) airway tissue derived from A549 cell line, and compared with ALI culture of primary human bronchial epithelial cells (pHBEC). The cells, exposed to PBDEs (47, 99 and 209) (0.01-1 mu M) for 24 h, were studied for IL-8, Muc5AC and Muc5B (mRNAs and proteins) production, as well as NOX-4 (mRNA) expression. Furthermore, we evaluated tight junction (TJ) integrity by Trans-Epithelial Electrical Resistance (TEER) measurements, …

Mercury and halogen emissions from Masaya and Telica volcanoes, Nicaragua

2008

We report measurements of Hg, SO2, and halogens (HCl, HBr, HI) in volcanic gases from Masaya volcano, Nicaragua, and gaseous SO2 and halogens from Telica volcano, Nicaragua. Mercury measurements were made with a Lumex 915+ portable mercury vapor analyzer and gold traps, while halogens, CO2 and S species were monitored with a portable multi gas sensor and filter packs. Lumex Hg concentrations in the plume were consistently above background and ranged up to 350 ng m-3. Hg/SO2 mass ratios measured with the real-time instruments ranged from 1.1 × 10-7 to 3.5 × 10-5 (mean 2 × 10-5). Total gaseous mercury (TGM) concentrations measured by gold trap ranged from 100 to 225 ng m-3. Reactive gaseous m…

Coordination networks incorporating halogen-bond donor sites and azobenzene groups

2016

Two Zn coordination networks, {[Zn(1)(Py)2]2(2-propanol)}n (3) and {[Zn(1)2(Bipy)2](DMF)2}n (4), incorporating halogen-bond (XB) donor sites and azobenzene groups have been synthesized and fully characterized. Obtaining 3 and 4 confirms that it is possible to use a ligand wherein its coordination bond acceptor sites and XB donor sites are on the same molecular scaffold (i.e., an aromatic ring) without interfering with each other. We demonstrate that XBs play a fundamental role in the architectures and properties of the obtained coordination networks. In 3, XBs promote the formation of 2D supramolecular layers, which, by overlapping each other, allow the incorporation of 2-propanol as a gues…
