Corrigendum to “Imaging of nitric oxide in a living vertebrate using a diaminofluorescein probe” [Free Radic. Biol. Med. 43 (2007) 619–627]

2008

Adrian Grimes and colleagues showed in a previous report that zebrafish bulbus arteriosus and the smooth muscle component of the chick cardiac outflow tract may be specifically labeled by DAF-2DA. Using this fluorescent dye they could distinguish the zebrafish bulbus arteriosus from "true" cardiac chambers, the atrium and ventricle (Grimes AC, Stadt HA, Shepherd IT, Kirby ML. Solving an enigma: arterial pole development in the zebrafish heart. Dev Biol 2006 Feb 15;290(2):265−76). The authors regret not including this information in the original version of their article.

Development of anode supported Single Chamber Solid Oxide Fuel Cells running in air/methane mixture

2013

International audience; Single Chamber Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SCFC) show a growing interest and are the concern of more and more papers. In such device, anode and cathode are ex-posed to a gas mixture of fuel (hydrocarbon) and oxidant (air) so that no more sealing with electrolyte is necessary. Their operating principle is based on the different catalytic activities of anode and cathode: Ideally, the anode has to be active for the oxidation of fuel while the cathode should present only a strong electro-activity for oxygen reduction. In this paper, we present the development of an anode supported SCFC device running in air/methane mixture characterized by their volume ratio, Rmix = CH4/O2.

Antimicrobial and antiproliferative activity of Athamanta sicula L. (Apiaceae).

2010

Background: Athamanta sicula L., a member of Apiaceae, is an annual perennial herb and it is known in Sicilian popular medicine with the name of “spaccapietre” (rock splitters), because fresh roots infusions are indicated as diuretic and used in the treatment of diseases of the urinary tract, and to dissolve kidney stones. Materials and Methods: Acetone extracts of leaves, flowers, and stems of A. sicula L. were investigated in vitro for antibacterial and cytotoxic activities. Antimicrobial activity was carried out against bacterial and fungal strains and antiproliferative activity against a group of human cancer cell lines (K-562, NCI-H460, and MCF-7). Results: All acetone extracts, apiol …

Chamazulene-Rich Artemisia arborescens Essential Oils Affect the Cell Growth of Human Melanoma Cells

2020

Artemisia arborescens is an aromatic shrub whose essential oils are considered a potential source of molecules with industrial and pharmaceutical interest. The chemical profile of A. arborescens essential oils (EOs) was shown to be quite variable and various chemotypes have been identified. In this study, we compared the EOs composition of A. arborescens leaves and flowers collected from four different locations in Sicily. The EOs were assayed for their antiproliferative activity against A375 human malignant melanoma cells, also testing cell viability and cell membrane integrity. The evaluation of DNA fragmentation and caspase-3 activity assay was employed for the detection of apoptosis. Th…

The Gaia-ESO Survey: Structural and dynamical properties of the young cluster Chamaeleon i

2017

Investigating the physical mechanisms driving the dynamical evolution of young star clusters is fundamental to our understanding of the star formation process and the properties of the Galactic field stars. The young (~2 Myr) and partially embedded cluster Chamaeleon I is one of the closest laboratories for the study of the early stages of star cluster dynamics in a low-density environment. The aim of this work is to study the structural and kinematical properties of this cluster combining parameters from the high-resolution spectroscopic observations of the Gaia-ESO Survey with data from the literature. Our main result is the evidence of a large discrepancy between the velocity dispersion …

The bending triad of the quasi-spherical top molecule SO2F2 in the 550 cm(-1) region

2006

International audience; The analysis of the v(3)/v(7)/v(9) bending triad of SO2F2 has been recently performed with the Watson's Hamiltonian up to octic terms employing 79 rovibrational parameters but including only the first order Coriolis interaction terms, fixed to ab initio values [H. Burger, J. Demaison, F. Hegelund, L. Margules, I. Merke, J. Mol. Struct. 612 (2002) 133-141]. Since SO2F2 is a quasi-spherical top, it can also be considered as derived from the SO42- sulfate ion. We have thus developed a new tensorial formalism in the O(3) > Td > C2v group chain [M. Rotger, V. Boudon, M. Loete, J. Mol. Spectrosc. 216 (2002) 297-307]. This approach allows a systematic development of rovibra…

The Approach Behavior to Angry Words in Athletes : A Pilot Study

2019

An increasing number of studies have found that athletes have a higher level of aggression than non-athletes. Anger is an important factor in the generation of aggressive behavior, and anger has been found to relate to both approach behavior and avoidance behavior. The present pilot study compared the aggression level of athletes and non-athletes using the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire, and examined the responses of participants to anger-related stimuli using the manikin task, a paradigm that measures approach-avoidance behavior. In total, 15 athletes and 15 non-athletes finished the questionnaire and the manikin task, which included two conditions. In the anger approach condition, pa…

Conceptual design and simulation of a water Cherenkov muon veto for the XENON1T experiment

2014

XENON is a direct detection dark matter project, consisting of a time projection chamber (TPC) that uses xenon in double phase as a sensitive detection medium. XENON100, located at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) in Italy, is one of the most sensitive experiments of its field. During the operation of XENON100, the design and construction of the next generation detector (of ton-scale mass) of the XENON project, XENON1T, is taking place. XENON1T is being installed at LNGS as well. It has the goal to reduce the background by two orders of magnitude compared to XENON100, aiming at a sensitivity of $2 \cdot 10^{-47} \mathrm{cm}^{\mathrm{2}}$ for a WIMP mass of 50 GeV/c$^{2}$. With…
