Diode laser spectroscopy of the nu(8) band of the SF(5)Cl molecule.

2003

Abstract Diode laser spectra of SF 5 Cl have been recorded in the ν 8 band region at a temperature of ca. 240 K, a pressure of 0.25 mbar and an instrumental bandwidth of ca. 0.001 cm −1 . Four regions have been studied: a first one in the P -branch (906.849–907.687 cm −1 ), a second one in the Q -branch (910.407–910.944 cm −1 ), and two other ones in the R -branch (913.957–914.556 and 917.853–918.705 cm −1 ). The whole ν 1 / ν 8 dyad of SF 5 35 Cl has been previously recorded in the group of Professor H. Burger in Wuppertal, thanks to a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer [J. Mol. Spectrosc. 208 (2001) 169]. These data have thus been combined with our diode laser ones in the aim of refi…

Multiple band crossings and Fermi surface topology: Role of double nonsymmorphic symmetries in MnP-type crystal structures

2019

We use relativistic ab-initio methods combined with model Hamiltonian approaches to analyze the normal-phase electronic and structural properties of the recently discovered WP superconductor. Remarkably, the outcomes of such study can be employed to set fundamental connections among WP and the CrAs and MnP superconductors belonging to the same space group. One of the key features of the resulting electronic structure is represented by the occurrence of multiple band crossings along specific high symmetry lines of the Brilloiun zone. In particular, we demonstrate that the eight-fold band degeneracy obtained along the SR path at (kx,ky)=(Pi,Pi) is due to inversion-time reversal invariance and…

Spin–orbit coupling effects on the electronic properties of the pressure-induced superconductor CrAs

2019

We present the effects of spin-orbit coupling on the low-energy bands and Fermi surface of the recently discovered pressure-induced superconductor CrAs. We apply the L\"owdin down-folding procedure to a tight-binding hamiltonian that includes the intrinsic spin-orbit interaction, originating from the Cr 3d electrons as well as from As 4p ones. Our results indicate that As contributions have negligible effects, whereas the modifications to the band structure and the Fermi surface can be mainly ascribed to the Cr contribution. We show that the inclusion of the spin-orbit interaction allows for a selective removal of the band degeneracy due to the crystal symmetries, along specific high symmet…

Evidence for eight node mixed-symmetry superconductivity in a correlated organic metal

2015

We report a combined theoretical and experimental investigation of the superconducting state in the quasi-two-dimensional organic superconductor $\kappa$-(ET)$_2$Cu[N(CN)$_2$]Br. Applying spin-fluctuation theory to a low-energy material-specific Hamiltonian derived from ab initio density functional theory we calculate the quasiparticle density of states in the superconducting state. We find a distinct three-peak structure that results from a strongly anisotropic mixed-symmetry superconducting gap with eight nodes and twofold rotational symmetry. This theoretical prediction is supported by low-temperature scanning tunneling spectroscopy on in situ cleaved single crystals of $\kappa$-(ET)$_2$…

Convergent transformations into a normal form in analytic Hamiltonian systems with two degrees of freedom on the zero energy surface near degenerate …

2004

We study an analytic Hamiltonian system with two degrees of freedom, having the origin as an elliptic singularity. We assume that the full Birkhoff normal form exists and is divisible by its quadratic part, being indefinite. We show that under the Bruno condition and under the restriction to the zero energy surface, a real analytic transformation into a normal form exists. Such a normal form coincides with the restriction of the Birkhoff normal form to the zero energy surface up to an order as large as we want.

Monte Carlo studies of anisotropic surface tension and interfacial roughening in the three-dimensional Ising model.

1989

Extensive Monte Carlo simulations of the simple cubic Ising model with nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic interactions with a tilted interface are presented for a wide range of lattice size L, temperature T, and tilt angles \ensuremath{\theta}. The anisotropic interfacial tension is studied in detail. From the small-angle data, we obtain the step free energy density ${f}_{S}$(T,L). Finite-size scaling of the step free energy density is discussed and used to probe the predicted temperature dependence of the correlation length near and above the roughening transition. The square-root temperature dependence predicted by solid-on-solid model calculations is exhibited. Finite-size scaling implies th…

Ultrafast amplification and non-linear magneto-elastic coupling of coherent magnon modes in an antiferromagnet

2021

We investigate the role of domain walls in the ultrafast magnon dynamics of an antiferromagnetic NiO single crystal in a pump-probe experiment with variable pump photon energy. Analysing the amplitude of the energy-dependent photo-induced ultrafast spin dynamics, we detect a yet unreported coupling between the material's characteristic THz- and a GHz-magnon modes. We explain this unexpected coupling between two orthogonal eigenstates of the corresponding Hamiltonian by modelling the magneto-elastic interaction between spins in different domains. We find that such interaction, in the non-linear regime, couples the two different magnon modes via the domain walls and it can be optically exploi…

Supervised learning of time-independent Hamiltonians for gate design

2018

We present a general framework to tackle the problem of finding time-independent dynamics generating target unitary evolutions. We show that this problem is equivalently stated as a set of conditions over the spectrum of the time-independent gate generator, thus transforming the task to an inverse eigenvalue problem. We illustrate our methodology by identifying suitable time-independent generators implementing Toffoli and Fredkin gates without the need for ancillae or effective evolutions. We show how the same conditions can be used to solve the problem numerically, via supervised learning techniques. In turn, this allows us to solve problems that are not amenable, in general, to direct ana…

Thermalization and condensation in an incoherently pumped passive optical cavity

2011

International audience; We study theoretically and numerically the condensation and the thermalization of classical optical waves in an incoherently pumped passive Kerr cavity. We show that the dynamics of the cavity exhibits a turbulent behavior that can be described by the wave turbulence theory. A mean-field kinetic equation is derived, which reveals that, in its high finesse regime, the cavity behaves essentially as a conservative Hamiltonian system. In particular, the intracavity turbulent field is shown to relax adiabatically toward a thermodynamic equilibrium state of energy equipartition. As a consequence of this effect of wave thermalization, the incoherent optical field undergoes …
