New ways to search for right-handed current inB→ρℓν¯decay

2014

An interesting possibility to ease the tension between various determinations of $|{V}_{ub}|$ is to allow a small right-handed contribution to the standard model weak current. The present bounds on such a contribution are fairly weak. We propose new ways to search for such a beyond standard model contribution in semileptonic $B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\rho}\ensuremath{\ell}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}$ decay. Generalized asymmetries in one, two, or three angular variables are introduced as discriminators, which do not require an unbinned analysis of the fully differential distribution, and a detailed study of the corresponding theoretical uncertainties is performed. A discussion o…

Regge signatures from CLAS Λ(1520) photoproduction data at forward angles

2014

The γp→K+Λ(1520) reaction mechanism is investigated within a Regge-effective Lagrangian hybrid approach based on our previous study of this reaction [Phys. Rev. C 89, 015203 (2014)PRVCAN0556-281310.1103/PhysRevC.89.015203]. Near threshold and for large K+ angles, the data from both the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility large acceptance spectrometer (CLAS) and the laser electron photon beamline at SPring-8 (LEPS) can be successfully described by considering the contributions from the contact, t-channel K¯ exchange, u-channel Λ(1115) hyperon pole, and s-channel nucleon pole and N*(2120) resonance contributions. However, for higher energies and forward K+ angles, systematic discrep…

Scrutinizing right-handed neutrino portal dark matter with Yukawa effect

2018

Analyzing the neutrino Yukawa effect in the freeze-out process of a generic dark matter candidate with right-handed neutrino portal, we identify the parameter regions satisfying the observed dark matter relic density as well as the current Fermi-LAT and H.E.S.S. limits and the future CTA reach on gamma-ray signals. In this scenario the dark matter couples to the Higgs boson at one-loop level and thus could be detected by spin-independent nucleonic scattering for a reasonable range of the relevant parameters.

Leptonic Flavor-changing Z0 Decays in SU(2)xU(1) Theories with Right- handed Neutrinos

1993

We analyze possible lepton-flavor-violating decays of the $Z^0$ particle in a minimal extension of the Standard Model, in which one right-handed neutral field for each family has been introduced. Such rare leptonic decays are induced by Majorana neutrinos at the first electroweak loop level and are generally not suppressed by the ordinary "see-saw" mechanism. In particular, we find that experimental bounds on branching ratios of the order of $10^{-5}-10^{-6}$ attainable at $LEP$ may impose constraints on lepton-flavor-mixing parameters and the masses of the heavy Majorana neutrinos.

Gravitational Waves from the Merging of White Dwarfs

2003

Binary white dwarfs emit gravitational waves with frequencies of up to a few mHz. As a consequence of the loss of angular momentum both components gradually approach and the gravitational waves emitted by the system increase both in amplitude and frequency (it is said that they chirp). In fact, the chirp of the galactic white dwarf binary population is expected to be the dominant source of noise at low frequencies. A fraction of these binaries, those separated by a distance smaller than roughly three solar radii, will eventually merge in a time shorter than a Hubble time. It is expected that during the merging they will emit gravitational waves transporting extremely valuable information ab…

Dialogue sur le handicap : réciprocité et altérité

2017

This dialogue is not one between a lecturer in philosophy (Pierre Ancet) questioning a person in a situation of physical dependency (Marcel Nuss), but a dialogue between two full-fledged authors. In this exchange the organic deficiency constitutes only the specific character of an individual’s experience, which is to be described without making it a pathology. Disability is considered in its organic, psychological and social dimension, as an incapacitating constraint, but also as a potential vector to discover nonstandard capacities. Among these capacities, the authors stress the consciousness of time and of the body, particularly unexpected as this consciousness is examined by an entirely …

Role of yeasts in table olive production

2008

Table olives are a traditional fermented vegetable of the Mediterranean countries, but their production and consumption are now spread all around the world. Yeasts can play a double role in this food. They are present throughout the fermentative process and it is generally accepted that they can produce compounds with important organoleptic attributes determining the quality and flavour of the final product. However, yeasts can also be spoilage microorganisms in olive fermentation/storage and packing causing gas pockets, swollen containers, cloudy brines and off-flavours and off-odours. Candida boidinii, Debaryomyces hansenii, Pichia anomala, P. membranifaciens, Rhodotorula glutinis and Sac…

Agronomic treatments to avoid seed presence in ‘Nadorcott’ mandarin I. Effect on in vivo pollen tube growth

2022

Abstract Fresh market demands high quality fruit and, therefore, citrus growers and researchers are constantly looking for solutions to avoid seed presence. Current horticultural techniques have low effectiveness or high cost. The objective of this study is to evaluate the inhibition effect of seven products on the in vivo pollen tube growth in Nadorcott mandarin, which is a high-value seedy variety. To achieve this main objective, three inorganic fertilizers (ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, sulfur), and four saccharides (saccharose, methyl cellulose, callose, chitosan) were applied to Nadorcott stigmas 24 h before and after hand pollination. Pollen tubes were counted 1, 3, and 5 days …
