A Technique for Power Supply Harmonic Impedance Estimation Using a Controlled Voltage Disturbance

A method for power system impedance estimation is presented. The method employs a power converter to inject a voltage transient onto the supply system. As the technique employs controlled power electronic devices it may be used as a stand alone piece of a portable measurement equipment, or it may be embedded into the functions of an active shunt filter for improved harmonic control. The impedance is estimated through correlation of the measured voltage and current transients. Simulations and experimental results demonstrate the measurement technique is highly accurate and effective.

Emergent behaviors and scalability for multi-agent reinforcement learning-based pedestrian models

This paper analyzes the emergent behaviors of pedestrian groups that learn through the multiagent reinforcement learning model developed in our group. Five scenarios studied in the pedestrian model literature, and with different levels of complexity, were simulated in order to analyze the robustness and the scalability of the model. Firstly, a reduced group of agents must learn by interaction with the environment in each scenario. In this phase, each agent learns its own kinematic controller, that will drive it at a simulation time. Independent energetic grids for a smart island: Model and design of a microgrid for a small Italian island

Unlike many Italian peninsular areas, which are increasingly turning to a diverse supply of renewable resources to generate electricity, Italian not-interconnected small islands continue to rely on oil for their electricity and other energy needs (e.g. transports). Freshness Indexes of Anchovies and Sardines of Mediterranean Sea

Anchovy (Engraulis Encrasicholus) and sardine (Sardina Pilchardus) are blue fishes linked to our alimentary tradition of Mediterranean. In our work, particularly, we tested for the first time physical and enzymatic methods to verify the freshness of species of blue fish, anchovy and sardine of Mediterranean. In connection with to the lowering of the pH after post-mortem stage we assisted to a increase in proteolytic activity of calpaine and catpsine. Already after 2 h in post- mortem there was a considerable increase.

Abstract Chlorinated phenanthrenes (PCPHs; P=1–5), alkylphenanthrenes (C4-PCPHs; P=1–3), dimethylnaphthalenes (C2-PCNs; P=1–4) and trimethylnaphthalenes (C3-PCNs; P=1–2) were analyzed by high resolution gas chromatography/high resolution mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS) in pulp, effluent and biosludge of two kraft pulp mills (mills 1 and 2). These compounds were indicated to be formed in the manufacture of both bleached hardwood and softwood kraft pulp. Different compound groups dominated in mill 1 samples compared to mill 2 samples. Differences between birch and pine pulp from mill 1 were observed for all substance groups but in mill 2 pulp only for PCPHs. The highest concentrations of PCPHs …

PURIFICATION OF HARDWOOD-DERIVED AUTOHYDROLYSATES

Carbohydrate-containing hydrolysates (1.1 to 14.9% of wood dry matter) obtained from autohydrolysis (at 130 to 150°C for 30 to 120 minutes) of birch (Betula pendula) chips prior to pulping were purified with respect to non-carbohydrate materials, without carbohydrate losses, either by ethyl acetate extraction or XAD-4 resin treatment. In the former case, about 50% of lignin and practically all the furanoic compounds (2-furaldehyde and 5-(hydroxymethyl)furfural) could be removed, whereas in the latter case, the corresponding amounts were about 30% and 50 to 90%, respectively.
