Das Cogan-I-Syndrom
2003
Flavor Release from i-Carrageenan Matrix: A Quantitative Structure-Property Relationships Approach
2006
International audience; We carried out a QSPR (quantitative structure-property relationships) approach to evaluate the influence of the chemical structure of aqueous matrixes over the partition coefficient between the gas phase and the matrix. The determination of the partition coefficient of flavor ingredients was performed by headspace analysis at equilibrium for both saline solution and -carrageenan gel. Starting from an initial list of 90 descriptors, we selected 10 descriptors to perform equation generation by the GFA (genetic function approximation) method available in the Cerius2 package. The best obtained equations involve only five descriptors, which encode electronic properties of…

Social Viewing in Cinematic Virtual Reality: Challenges and Opportunities
2018
Cinematic Virtual Reality (CVR) has been increasing in popularity in the last years. However, viewers can feel isolated when watching 360° movies with a Head-Mounted Display. Since watching movies is a social experience for most people, we investigate if the use of Head Mounted Displays is appropriate for enabling shared CVR experiences. In this context, even if viewers are watching the movie simultaneously, they do not automatically see the same field of view, since they can freely choose the viewing direction. Based on the literature and experiences from past user studies, we identify seven challenges. To address these challenges, we present and discuss design ideas for a CVR social movie…
Fully automatic, real-time detection of facial gestures from generic video
2005
A technique for the detection of facial gestures from low resolution video sequences is presented. The technique builds upon the automatic 3D head tracker formulation of [M. La Cascia et al., 2000]. The tracker is based on the registration of a texture-mapped cylindrical model. Facial gesture analysis is performed in the texture map by assuming that the residual registration error can be modeled as a linear combination of facial motion templates. Two formulations are proposed and tested. In one formulation, the head and facial motion are estimated in a single, combined linear system. In the other formulation, head motion and then facial motion are estimated in a two-step process. The two-st…

Breeding-related seasonal changes in immunocompetence, health state and condition of the cyprinid fish, Rutilus rutilus, L.
2003
Seasonal changes in immunocompetence are predicted by the hypothesized trade-off between reproduction and self-maintenance, whereby immune function is a measure of self-maintenance and reproductive effort is seasonally dependent. We examined seasonal patterns in immunological, haematological and body condition parameters for male and female freshwater fish. In two different populations, the relative size of the spleen and the chemotaxic migration activity of head kidney granulocytes decreased immediately before and after spawning, respectively. Those decreases were accompanied by an increase in haematocrit values shortly before and after spawning in both populations and a decrease in the re…
CBCT in the detection of odontoma
2012
OBJECTIVES: Odontoma is the most common among odontogenic tumors, representing 22- 23.9% of them. Impaction, aplasia, malformation, malpositioning, and devitalization of adjacent teeth are associated with 50-70% of odontomas. Two types of odontoma are distinguished, compound and complex. The typical features of compound odontoma are separate, rudimentary, closely positioned toothlike structures . When such buds form an amorphous and irregular conglomerate of dental tissue without a clear division, they are classified as complex odontoma. Both types are recognized more frequently in the permanent dentition, typically in the second or third decade of life. The anterior maxilla and the posteri…
Multi-scale analysis of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) predicts cervical nodal status in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma
2013
The study assess multi-scale diffusion parameters (median volumetric nodal region of interest values, inter-voxel histogram distributions, and intra-voxel diffusion heterogeneity as assessed by the stretched exponential model) as classifiers of nodal status in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Low b value (0, 50, 100) derived nodal ADC (perfusion sensitive) was the key parameter facilitating discrimination of metastatic from benign nodes in patients with head and neck SCC. The stretched exponential derived α value together with histogram features of ADC provide an accurate decision tree model for classification of nodal disease.
