The Electronic Historical Latvian Dictionary Based on the Corpus of Early Written Latvian Texts This article deals with the development of the Electronic Historical Latvian Dictionary (http://www.tezaurs.lv/lvvv) based on the Corpus of Early Written Latvian Texts (http://www.korpuss.lv/senie/). Some issues concerning the compilation and processing of the corpus data are discussed and the main sources added to the Corpus during the four-year project are described: the 16th c. Dictionaries are a list of words, simple or complex, that are treated as entries (lexical items). It is usual to assert several components: the lemma or headword, named after its most neutral form, followed by an indication of the main inflections of its category: genre and number if they are names, syntactic class if they are verbs. The Effectiveness of LDOCE Definitions for Concrete and Abstract Nouns in Headword- and Picture-Identification Tasks

Abstract LDOCE uses a defining vocabulary to make their definitions intelligible to the user. Critics claim this policy may result in imprecise definitions, something especially noticeable in certain concrete and abstract words that are difficult to define by a definition only. This paper examines to what extent LDOCE definitions of such words help learners identify the objects and words being defined. Introduction of New Headwords Related to Covid-19 Pandemics in Online English Dictionaries

Šī pētījuma mērķis ir izpētīt jaunu, ar Covid-19 pandēmiju saistītu, šķirkļa vārdu iekļaušanu tiešsaistes angļu valodas vārdnīcās, kā arī noteikt un analizēt to veidus, vārdu šķiras, stilistisko raksturojumu, nozīmi un pielietotos vārddarināšanas paņēmienus. Mērķa sasniegšanai ir veikts literatūras pārskats, kā arī, empīriskajā daļā, tiek izmantotas gan kvalitatīvās, gan kvantitatīvās pētījumu metodes. Pētījuma rezultāti liecina, ka visi pētītie šķirkļa vārdi, iepriekš tika bieži lietoti angļu valodas korpusā, pirms tos ieviesa tiešsaistes vārdnīcās; vairums, bija jauni šķirkļa vārdi, kas radīti, izmantojot salikteņu veidošanu, vārdu atvasināšanu un saīsinājumu, kas pārstāv gan literārās, g…

Šajā bakalaura darbā tiek pētītas pilna teikuma definīcijas un to īpatnības KOBILDA vārdnīcās. KOBILDA pilna teikuma definēšanas stils kļuva par pavērsienu vārdnīcu pasaulē, piedāvājot pilnīgi jaunu pieeju vārdnīcu rakstīšanai. Tādējādi bakalaura darbā ir iekļauti secinājumi, kas atspoguļo lietotāju attieksmi pret KOBILDA definīciju. Darba empīriskā pētījuma metode ir gadījumu izpēte, datu vākšanas tehnika – aptaujas anketēšana, kas ir analizēta no kvalitatīvā un kvantitatīvā viedokļa. Analīze atklāj, ka pilna teikuma definīcijas nav priekšroka salīdzinājumā ar citiem definīciju veidiem, jo lielākā daļa respondentu dod priekšroku tradicionālākiem definēšanas stiliem.
