Remodeling of peritoneal-like structures by mesothelial cells: its role in peritoneal healing.

Abstract Background. Intraabdominal adhesions are a common complication following laparotomy. Since the exact mechanisms involved in this processes are unknown we have analyzed in vitro the role of mesothelial cells in peritoneal healing. Material and methods. Human mesothelial cells from omental tissue were cultivated for 2 weeks in a three-dimensional culture either on or in a collagen type I matrix. Background: Platelet rich plasma (PRP) has been proposed to be a useful adjunct to bone grafting. Purpose: The aim of the present study was to assess new bone formation in bone regeneration procedures using platelet rich plasma (PRP) alone or in combination with autogenous bone. Materials and Methods: Four surgically created, monocortical defects 5 mm in diameter in the calvariae of 15 New Zealand rabbits were grafted with a coagulum-filled control, PRP, particulated autogenous bone alone (A), or combined with PRP (A-PRP). C1q as a novel player in angiogenesis with therapeutic implication in wound healing

We have previously shown that C1q is expressed on endothelial cells (ECs) of newly formed decidual tissue. Here we demonstrate that C1q is deposited in wound-healing skin in the absence of C4 and C3 and that C1q mRNA is locally expressed as revealed by real-time PCR and in situ hybridization. C1q was found to induce permeability of the EC monolayer, to stimulate EC proliferation and migration, and to promote tube formation and sprouting of new vessels in a rat aortic ring assay. Using a murine model of wound healing we observed that vessel formation was defective in C1qa(-/-) mice and was restored to normal after local application of C1q.
