Screen media and non-screen media habits among preschool children in Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Finland: Insights from an unsupervised cluste…
2021
The main purpose of the research was to describe the daily screen media habits and non-screen media habits like indoor and outdoor play, and sleep of preschool children aged 2 to 6 years from Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Finland using a content-validated online questionnaire (SMALLQ®) and unsupervised cluster analysis. Unsupervised cluster analysis on 5809 parent-reported weekday and weekend screen and non-screen media habits of preschool children from the four countries resulted in seven emergent clusters. Cluster 2 ( n = 1288) or the Early-screen media, screen media-lite and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity-lite family made up 22.2% and Cluster 1 ( n = 261) or the High-all-ro…
ValWorkBench: an open source Java library for cluster validation, with applications to microarray data analysis.
2015
Background: Cluster analysis is one of the most well known activities in scientific investigation and the object of research in many disciplines, ranging from statistics to computer science. It is central to the life sciences due to the advent of high throughput technologies, e.g., classification of tumors. In particular, in cluster analysis, it is of relevance to assess cluster quality and to predict the number of clusters in a dataset, if any. This latter task is usually performed via internal validation measures. Despite their potentially important role, both the use of classic internal validation measures and the design of new ones, specific for microarray data, do not seem to have grea…
Comparative Study of Human and Automated Screening for Antinuclear Antibodies by Immunofluorescence on HEp-2 Cells
2015
Background : Several automated systems had been developed in order to reduce inter-observer variability in indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) interpretation. We aimed to evaluate the performance of a processing system in antinuclear antibodies (ANA) screening on HEp-2 cells. Patients and Methods : This study included 64 ANA-positive sera and 107 ANA-negative sera that underwent IIF on two commercial kits of HEp-2 cells (BioSystems® and Euroimmun®). IIF results were compared with a novel automated interpretation system, the “ Cyclopus CADImmuno®” (CAD). Results : All ANA-positive sera images were recognized as positive by CAD (sensitivity = 100%), while 17 (15.9%) of the ANA-negative sera ima…
DFT studies of COOH tip-functionalized zigzag and armchair single wall carbon nanotubes
2011
Structure and energy calculations of pristine and COOH-modified model single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) of different length were performed at B3LYP/6-31G* level of theory. From 1 to 9 COOH groups were added at the end of the nanotube. The differences in structure and energetics of partially and fully functionalized SWCNTs at one end of the nanotube are observed. Up to nine COOH groups could be added at one end of (9,0) zigzag SWCNT in case of full functionalization. However, for (5,5) armchair SWCNT, the full functionalization was impossible due to steric crowding and rim deformation. The dependence of substituent attachment energy on the number of substituents at the carbon nanotube ri…
Mobile Mental Wellness Training for Stress Management: Feasibility and Design Implications Based on a One-Month Field Study
2013
Background: Prevention and management of work-related stress and related mental problems is a great challenge. Mobile applications are a promising way to integrate prevention strategies into the everyday lives of citizens. Objective: The objectives of this study was to study the usage, acceptance, and usefulness of a mobile mental wellness training application among working-age individuals, and to derive preliminary design implications for mobile apps for stress management. Methods: Oiva, a mobile app based on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), was designed to support active learning of skills related to mental wellness through brief ACT-based exercises in the daily life. A one-month …
Information behaviour of the millennial generation: a scoping review of medical residents and their use of social media.
2018
Background Medical residents can offer ideas for new information services, as most of them are 'digital natives', although reviews of the use of social media in health care settings do not provide data on their information behaviour. Objective A scoping review aimed at providing a research map for the information behaviour of medical residents and their use of social media, listing the aspects of the information behaviour studied and the theories and methods used. Methods A search was carried out in pubmed, embase, cinahl and lisa in April of 2018, with the results limited to the period from 2010 onwards. Results Thirty-nine relevant articles from 38 different studies were identified. The p…
Reliability of Short-Term Heart Rate Variability Indexes Assessed through Photoplethysmography
2018
The gold standard method to monitor heart rate variability (HRV) comprises measuring the time series of interbeat interval durations from electrocardiographic (ECG) recordings. However, due to the widespread use, simplicity and usability of photoplethysmographic (PPG) techniques, monitoring pulse rate variability (PRV) from pulse wave recordings has become a viable alternative to standard HRV analysis. The present study investigates the accuracy of PRV, measured as a surrogate of HRV, for the quantification of descriptive indexes computed in the time domain (mean, variance), frequency domain (low-to-high frequency power ratio LF/HF, HF band central frequency) and information domain (entropy…
Cardiovascular and respiratory variability during orthostatic and mental stress: A comparison of entropy estimators
2017
The aim of this study is to characterize cardiovascular and respiratory signals during orthostatic and mental stress as reflected in indices of entropy and complexity, providing a comparison between the performance of different estimators. To this end, the heart rate variability, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and respiration time series were extracted from the recordings of 61 healthy volunteers undergoing a protocol consisting of supine rest, head-up tilt test and mental arithmetic task. The analysis was performed in the information domain using measures of entropy and conditional entropy, estimated through model-based (linear) and model-free (binning, nearest neighbor)…
epiModel: A system to build automatically systems of differential equations of compartmental type-epidemiological models
2011
In this paper we describe epiModel, a code developed in Mathematica that facilitates the building of systems of differential equations corresponding to type-epidemiological linear or quadratic models whose characteristics are defined in text files following an easy syntax. It includes the possibility of obtaining the equations of models involving age and/or sex groups. © 2011.
Koettuun informaatioteknologian hyödyllisyyteen vaikuttavat tekijät hoitotyöntekijöillä
2015
