Biosynthesis of Lipopolysaccharide-Binding Protein in Rabbit Hepatocytes
1990
Studies reported here show that the recently discovered acute-phase protein, lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), is synthesized by hepatocytes. For these studies, explanted rabbit hepatocytes were grown in the presence of 35S-methionine. Biosynthetically labelled LBP in the cells and supernatant was identified using immunoprecipitation with rat anti-rabbit LBP antibody. This antibody immunoprecipitates both the LBP polypeptide and the glycosylated protein. With a cell-free translation system a comparison of RNA from normal rabbit liver with that isolated from acute-phase rabbit liver indicated that a translatable LBP message is only found in the RNA from acute-phase liver. Studies wit…
Different Conceptions of Burnout and Its Relationships with Job Strain and Emotional Intelligence
2021
Burnout is an emotional syndrome that involves a prolonged response to stress. Its study in the work environment is of interest, since it manifests itself through negative attitudes toward work and affects the emotional, attitudinal, and physical level of the person who suffers it. The most relevant instruments for measuring burnout are the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), most commonly used, and the Shirom-Melamed Burnout Measure (SMBM). Likewise, taking into account the emotional nature of the Burnout, it is related to Emotional Intelligence (EI), playing a very important role in the adaptive capacity of individuals in stressful situations. The aim of the present study is (1) to analyze t…
Audit Regulation, Auditor Industry Expertise and Effects on Audit Pricing
2018
The diversity of regulations that govern statutory audit in European countries provides the opportunity to analyse how audit regulation affects audit fees. This study is the first to analyse empirically the joint effect of audit regulation and auditor expertise on audit fees for the institutional setting of 14 European countries by using a sample of 4,293 European firms for the period from 2003 to 2011. I analyse four attributes of audit regulation, namely terms for annual renewal of the mandate, nature of the auditors’ liability, whether the state requires joint audits and whether it imposes restrictions on the provision of non-audit services. The main results show that using an industry s…
Prevalence of Low Back Pain among Primary School Students from the City of Valencia (Spain)
2021
It is well-known that low back pain (LBP) prevalence is high among school-age children. However, literature concerning the initial onset of back pain between the ages of three and eleven years is scarce. The present study aims to analyze the prevalence of LBP in kindergarten and primary school students. A total of 278 (9.9 ± 2.1 years old
Chapter 14: HPV vaccine introduction in industrialized countries.
2006
Introduction of a vaccine requires the achievement of three initial milestones. These are licensure by a national control authority that determines the vaccine is safe and effective, development of recommendations for use by expert advisory bodies on immunization, and obtaining funding for vaccination. Once these milestones have been achieved, a successful vaccination program requires that a number of interlinked programmatic components be brought together in a coordinated fashion. These include vaccine purchase and supply, vaccination service delivery, high coverage rates, surveillance of the vaccination program, immunization finance policies and practices, and political will. Human papill…
Real-world effectiveness of long acting aripiprazole: Treatment persistence and its correlates in the Italian clinical practice
2019
Abstract Objectives To identify the variables that are associated with persistence to Aripiprazole-Long Acting (A-LAI), in adult patients with schizophrenia. Methods Observational, retrospective, non-interventional study involving 261 patients with schizophrenia. Results Eighty-six percent of study subjects were persistent for at least 6 months. All subjects with baseline CGI-S of 1 or 2, 95% of subjects with CGI-S of 3, 86% with CGI-S of 4, 82% of subjects with CGI-S of 5, 73% of subjects with CGI of 6 and 90% of subjects with CGI of 7 were persistent. A-LAI treatment continuation rate was higher in patients with: 1) baseline CGI score ≤ 4; 2) schizophrenia dimension (LDPS) mania score ≤ 5…
Sport burnout inventory–Dual career form for student-athletes: Assessing validity and reliability in a Finnish sample of adolescent athletes
2020
Background: The pressure of pursuing an athletic career simultaneously with education may set adolescent student-athletes at risk for sport and school burnout. Although the 2 life domains of student-athletes are strongly intertwined, so far, there has not been an instrument for investigating sport burnout parallel to school burnout. The aim of the present study was to introduce a sport burnout measure for adolescents in a dual career context and investigate its validity and reliability by using confirmatory factor analysis. Methods: The participants were 391 student-athletes (51% females) who filled in a questionnaire of sport burnout and background variables in the beginning of upper secon…
Burnout, associated comorbidities and coping strategies in French community pharmacies—BOP study: A nationwide cross-sectional study
2016
International audience; Background: work-related stress and burnout syndromes are unfortunately common comorbidities found in health professionals. However, burnout syndrome has only been partly and episodically assessed for community pharmacists whereas these professionals are exposed to patients’ demands and difficulties every day. Prevalence of burnout, associated comorbidities and coping strategies were assessed in pharmacy teams (pharmacists and pharmacy technicians) in French community pharmacies. Methods: This online survey was performed by emails sent to all French community pharmacies over 3 months. The survey assessed the prevalence of burnout (Maslach Burnout Inventory—MBI—questio…
