Estudio de la Gestión de la Seguridad y Salud en el sector construcción valenciano

2015

[EN] Construction is a sector with a high accident rate due to its own characteristics (high component of labor and develops outdoor) and its organizational characteristics as working patterns, methods of implementation and higher outsourcing. Management of Health and Safety is a determining factor in obtaining best execution of work and lower rates of accidents. This paper presents a study of the current level of Health and Safety Management in the construction sector in Valencia (Spain) from a survey of a group of technicians with experience in the sector. The main results are the size of the company is an important key to health and safety, both in terms of training as in the management …

Detection of  9-Tetrahydrocannabinol and Amphetamine-Type Stimulants in Oral Fluid Using the Rapid Stat  Point-of-Collection Drug-Testing Device

2010

The Rapid Stat assay, a point-of-collection drug-testing device for detection of amphetamines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, methadone, and benzodiazepines in oral fluid, was evaluated for cannabis and amphetamine-type stimulants. The Rapid Stat tests (n = 134) were applied by police officers in routine traffic checks. Oral fluid and blood samples were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol, amphetamine, methamphetamine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine, methylenedioxyethylamphetamine, and methylenedioxyamphetamine. The comparison of GC-MS analysis of oral fluid with the Rapid Stat results for cannabis showed a sensitivity of 85%, a spec…

Use of ICS/LABA (extra-fine and non-extra-fine) in elderly asthmatics.

2016

Age represents an exclusion criterion in randomized clinical trials designed to test the efficacy and safety of inhaled drugs in asthma. As a consequence, data on efficacy and safety of inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and long-acting β2 agonist (LABA) combinations in elderly asthmatics are scanty. Older age is associated with an increased proportion of comorbid conditions; in addition, all organ functions undergo a process of senescence, thus reducing their ability to metabolize the agents. Overall, these age-associated conditions may variably, and often unpredictably, affect the metabolism and excretion of respiratory drugs. However, pharmacological treatment of asthma does not follow specifi…

Pharmacogenetics and Forensic Toxicology: A New Step towards a Multidisciplinary Approach

2021

Pharmacogenetics analyzes the individual behavior of DNA genes after the administration of a drug. Pharmacogenetic research has been implemented in recent years thanks to the improvement in genome sequencing techniques and molecular genetics. In addition to medical purposes, pharmacogenetics can constitute an important tool for clarifying the interpretation of toxicological data in post-mortem examinations, sometimes crucial for determining the cause and modality of death. The purpose of this systematic literature review is not only to raise awareness among the forensic community concerning pharmacogenetics, but also to provide a workflow for forensic toxicologists to follow in cases of unk…

Identifying causes, dynamics and consequences of work accidents in forest operations in an alpine context

2016

Abstract In a sustainable perspective, where wood harvesting and use perfectly respond to environmental needs, social sustainability and related health and safety of forest workers cannot be disregarded. The aim of this study was the analysis of the accidents records in public companies in the Province of Trento, in Northern Italy, regarding forest operations in the period 1995–2013. Several information were available thanks to the up-to-date accident books compiled by each company. With an average Frequency index in the examined period of 88 injuries per million hours worked, forest operations were confirmed as one of the most dangerous works along all productive sectors. Monday had a sign…

Warehouse threats and loss prevention management in case of fire

2016

Abstract Warehouses play an important role when it comes to the reception, delivery and storage of various types of goods. Due to the complex scenarios that may occur, as well as the heterogeneous nature of goods, warehouses bear a higher risk of accidents. Regardless if we’re taking about removing hassle or standardizing operations we speak the same language: insuring efficiency and increased efficiency leads to smart cost maintenances. In the article hear by we will observe the behavior of different warehouse materials in the case of trigger fired. Starting from the results obtained during the low scale tests and completing the premises with the large scale experiment (warehouse scale), w…

IT Technology Implications Analysis on the Occupational Risk: Cloud Computing Architecture

2014

Abstract The present paper is divided into three major areas: the analysis of occupational risk implications at national and international level, the European priorities in terms of occupational risk and the existing cloud computing services. Since human resource is present within each organization, it is required a comprehensive and actual assessment of the processes in which they participate. Like in any daily activity, processes and people contribute to the emergence of risks. If each organization creates healthy and safe workplaces that means that it contributes to the sustainable development of the area in which it operates. It can be said that occupational risk assessment and occupati…

A preliminary study on the distribution of morphine and its glucuronides in the subcompartments of blood.

1998

[Abstract ] The distribution of morphine, morphine-3-glucuronide (M3G), and morphine-6-glucuronide (M6G) in whole blood, plasma, and packed erythrocytes was studied. Parameters investigated were the hematocrit values (10, 42, 44, and 71%) and the water content of the samples. The blood-to-plasma ratio of morphine concentrations was unaffected by variations in hematocrit and water content, whereas the corresponding ratios for M3G and M6G were strongly influenced. Ratios were 0.53 to 0.65 and 0.52 to 0.62 in specimens with average hematocrit values (42 and 44%, respectively), and the ratios were 0.81 or 0.89 (hematocrit 10%) and 0.27 or 0.28 (hemalocrit 71%) in blood samples with different he…

False-positive LSD testing in urine samples from intensive care patients.

1998

Unexpected positive results for lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) were found in urine samples from 12 patients in an intensive care unit in a routine screening using the CEDIA DAU assay. None of these test results could be confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography analysis, but all samples contained the mucolytic drug ambroxol. Further studies demonstrated that ambroxol exhibits a significant cross-reactivity in the CEDIA DAU LSD assay. Therefore, positive LSD results obtained with the CEDIA DAU assay have to be critically evaluated, particularly during the cold season, when infections of the respiratory tract often result in more frequent use of mucolytic medications.

Sensitive Screening of New Psychoactive Substances in Serum Using Liquid Chromatography-Quadrupole Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry.

2021

Abstract Analysis of new psychoactive substances (NPS) still poses a challenge for many institutions due to the number of available substances and the constantly changing drug market. Both new and well-known substances keep appearing and disappearing on the market, making it hard to adapt analytical methods in a timely manner. In this study we developed a qualitative screening approach for serum samples by means of liquid chromatography--quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Samples were measured in data-dependent auto tandem mass spectrometry mode and identified by fragment spectra comparison, retention time and accurate mass. Approximately 500 NPS, including 195 synthetic cannabino…
