The effectiveness of 12 months' intensive shoulder strength training on disability, health-related quality of life and shoulder function after rotato…
2017
This study examined the effectiveness of intensive shoulder strength training on disability, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and shoulder function in patients who had undergone rotator cuff repair (RCR). In addition, the self- report section of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Standardized Assessment Form (ASES) was cross-culturally adapted to the Finnish language and the psychometric properties of the Finnish version were assessed. Patients with a rotator cuff tear (aged 41-62 years) were randomized into an exercise group (EG, n=35) or a usual care group (UCG, n=32) after RCR. Disability was assessed with ASES questionnaire and quality of life with Short- Form 36 Health Surv…

Update on the Management of Pediatric Psoriasis: An Italian Consensus
2022
Introduction Psoriasis affects children with a considerable burden in early life. Treating pediatric psoriasis is challenging also because of the lack of updated specific guidelines. With the recent approval of several biologics for pediatric psoriasis and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the management of young psoriatic patients is facing major changes. A revision of treatment recommendations is therefore needed. Methods In September 2021, a board of six Italian dermatologists convened to update treatment recommendations. The board issued evidence- and consensus-based statements covering relevant areas of pediatric psoriasis, namely: assessment of psoriasis severity, management of children …
Oral-Health-Related Quality of Life and Cosleeping: The Role of Nocturnal Breastfeeding
2021
The purpose of this paper is to analyse the association between cosleeping and the number of breastfeeding sessions in infants, OHRQoL of the child and the family, and the DMFT Child’s index. The sample comprised 273 children (2–4 years old). In addition to the clinical examination of the child to assess the DMFT Index, the mother was requested to complete a questionnaire to collect data about the breastfeeding practice, diet, dental hygiene, dental check-ups, quality of the child’s oral life, and family impact (ECOHIS Scale). The children’s OHRQoL is positively correlated with number of night-time breastfeeding sessions at 12 months (r2 = 0.40 **), DMFT index (r2 = 0.60 **), impact family …
Quality of life of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer
2021
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most common malignancies with poor prognosis and high mortality. Advanced-stage disease at diagnosis and the dominant clinical symptoms significantly deteriorate the quality of life. The paper presents an analysis of the results of quality of life studies in patients with locally advanced and metastatic pancreatic cancer, as well as the relationship between therapeutic decisions and quality of life indicators. It has been shown that the initial assessment of life quality can have prognostic value.Appropriate symptomatic treatment of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer improves the quality of life, increases the compliance and prolongs survival. The asses…
Change in physical activity and health-related quality of life in old age : a 10-year follow-up study
2019
The aim of the study was to examine the association between change in leisure‐time physical activity (LTPA) and change in health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) and symptoms of depression during a 10‐year follow‐up. This prospective study included 1036 men and women (mean age at baseline = 61.2 years) from the Helsinki Birth Cohort Study. Leisure‐time physical activity was measured with a questionnaire, HRQoL with SF36 and depression symptoms with Beck's depression inventory (BDI). The association between the change in LTPA and change in HRQoL and BDI were investigated with sex‐stratified general linear models adjusted for age, smoking, educational attainment, comorbidity score, and baselin…
Health-related Quality of Life of Breast Cancer Survivors Attending an Exercise Intervention Study : A Five-year Follow-up
2020
Background/Aim: As the number of breast cancer survivors is increasing, their long-term health-related quality of life (HRQoL)has become an important issue. The aim of the study is to follow up the HRQoL of breast cancer survivors (BCS) in a prospectiverandomized exercise intervention study and to compare HRQoL to that of the age-matched general female population. Patients and Methods: Following adjuvant treatment, 537 patients aged 35-68 and capable of exercise training were randomized to a 12-monthexercise trial. In 182 of those patients, HRQoL was measured by the generic 15D at baseline and followed up for five years.Furthermore, the HRQoL of all BCS answering the 15D at five-year follow…
The role of teachers’ controlling behaviour in physical education on adolescents’ health-related quality of life : test of a conditional process model
2019
Students’ health-related quality of life (HRQoL) may depend on the extent to which the school environment fostered by their teacher is perceived as autonomy-supportive. We tested a conditional process model in a physical education context in which students’ perception of their teachers’ autonomy-supportive behaviour moderated the relationship between perceived controlling behaviour and HRQoL via need frustration. School students (N = 1042) completed self-report measures of perceived teachers’ autonomy support, perceived controlling behaviour, need frustration, and HRQoL. As predicted, the effect of perceived teachers’ controlling behaviour on HRQoL was mediated by need frustration. Perceive…
Akceptacja choroby jako mediator zależności pomiędzy niepełnosprawnością neurologiczną a jakością życia uwarunkowaną stanem zdrowia osób ze stwardnie…
2020
2019
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a progressive neurological disease that leads to significant disability and can affect health related quality of life. Social support may be one of the predictors of quality of life in MS. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between disability associated with the course of multiple sclerosis, social support and quality of life. 137 people diagnosed with MS participated in the study. Extended Disability Status Scale (EDSS), Guy's Neurological Disability Scale (GNDS), Berlin Social Support Scales and the Multiple Sclerosis Impact Scale 29 (MSIS-29) were used in the study. The study showed no significant relationship between disability and perceiv…
