Leading-order QED radiative corrections to timelike Compton scattering on the proton
2021
We evaluate the leading-order QED radiative corrections to the timelike Compton scattering (TCS) process $\gamma p \to l^- l^+ p$. We study these corrections in two energy regimes using different models for the TCS amplitude. In the low-energy regime we calculate the contribution due to the proton and its lowest-energy excitation, the $\Delta(1232)$ resonance. In the high-energy near-forward kinematical regime we calculate the TCS amplitude in a handbag approach in terms of Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs). On the level of cross sections we find the QED radiative corrections to be in the $5 -10\%$ range in the low-energy regime and around $20\%$ in the high-energy regime. We show tha…
The Drell-Hearn-Gerasimov sum rule and the constituent quark model
1993
The helicity structure function of the nucleon has been calculated for the constituent quark model and compared to the prediction of the Drell-Hearn-Gerasimov sum rule. The multipole decomposition of the sum rule shows large cancellations between different resonances. The small isoscalar-isovector contribution is related to the admixture of aD-state (“bag deformation”) in the nucleon's wave function. The calculations indicate a relatively slow saturation of this part of the sum rule with excitation energy.
The GDH experiment at MAMI
1999
Abstract The Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule connects the helicity dependent photoabsorption cross section with the anomalous magnetic moment of the nucleon. The GDH-collaboration is measuring the total cross section of circularly polarized photons with longitudinally polarized protons to check this sum rule experimentally to do a further progress in the investigation of the spin structure of the nucleon. The experiment has been started using the polarized electron beam of the Mainz electron accelerator MAMI in the energy range 200 – 800 MeV and will be continued at the Bonn accelerator ELSA up to an energy of about 3 GeV. We have finished the datav taking period at MAMI for the proton…
P-odd observables at the upsilon peak
1997
We study the $\gamma$-Z interference in the process $e^+ e^-\to \Upsilon \to \tau^+ \tau^-$ as a means to measure the neutral current coupling of the b-quark. The helicity amplitudes are calculated from resonant and background diagrams and the spin density matrix of the final state is discussed. The spin analyzer of the $\tau$'s is illustrated with the decays $\pi \nu$ and $\rho \nu \to (\pi \pi) \nu$. With $10^8 \Upsilon$ a sensitivity to $g_V^b$ of a few per cent could be reachable.
Beam-Helicity Asymmetries in Double-Pion Photoproduction off the Proton
2009
Beam-helicity asymmetries have been measured at the MAMI accelerator in Mainz in the three isospin channels $\vec{\gamma}p\to \pi^{+}\pi^0n$, $\vec{\gamma}p\to \pi^{0}\pi^0p$ and $\vec{\gamma}p\to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}p$ . The circularly polarized photons, produced from bremsstrahlung of longitudinally polarized electrons, were tagged with the Glasgow magnetic spectrometer. Charged pions and the decay photons of $\pi^0$ mesons were detected in a $~4\pi$ electromagnetic calorimeter which combined the Crystal Ball detector with the TAPS detector. The precisely measured asymmetries are very sensitive to details of the production processes and are thus key observables in the modeling of the reaction d…
Helicity Dependence ofγp→Nπbelow 450 MeV and Contribution to the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn Sum Rule
2000
The helicity dependence of the single pion photoproduction on the proton has been measured in the energy range from 200 to 450 MeV for the first time. The experiment, performed at the Mainz microtron MAMI, used a 4pi-detector system, a circularly polarized, tagged photon beam, and a frozen-spin target. The data obtained provide new information for multipole analyses of pion photoproduction and determine the main contributions to the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule and the forward spin polarizability gamma(0).
Physical observables in the decay Λb→Λc(→Λ+π)+τ−+ν̄τ
2015
We analyze the tauonic semileptonic baryon decays [Formula: see text] with particular emphasis on the lepton helicity flip contributions which vanish for zero lepton masses. We calculate the total rate, differential decay distributions, the longitudinal and transverse polarization components of the [Formula: see text] and the [Formula: see text], and the lepton-side forward-backward asymmetries. We use the covariant confined quark model to provide numerical results on these observables.
First Measurement of the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn Sum Rule forH1from 0.7 to 1.8 GeV at ELSA
2003
To verify the fundamental Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule for the first time experimentally, we measured the helicity dependent total photoabsorption cross section with circularly polarized real photons and longitudinally polarized nucleons in the photon energy range 0.68-1.82 GeV with the tagged photon facility at ELSA. The experiment was carried out with a 4pi detection system, a circularly polarized tagged photon beam, and a frozen spin polarized proton target. The contribution to the GDH sum rule in this photon energy range is [49.9+/-2.4(stat)+/-2.2(syst)] mub.

Recent results from the MAID and Dubna-Mainz-Taipei PWA analysis
2008
The unitary isobar model MAID2007 has been developed to analyze the world data of pion photo- and electroproduction. The model contains both a common background and several resonance terms. The background is unitarized according to the K-matrix prescription, and the 13 four-star resonances with masses below 2 GeV are described by appropriately unitarized Breit-Wigner forms. The data have been analyzed by both single-energy and global fits, and the transverse and longitudinal helicity amplitudes have been extracted for the four-star resonances below 2 GeV. Because of its inherent simplicity, MAID2007 is well adopted for predictions and analysis of the observables in pion photo- and electropr…
