Pharmacokinetics of anidulafungin during venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

2016

Echinocandins are currently considered the first-line treatment for invasive candidiasis (IC) in the intensive care unit (ICU) [1, 2]. However, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a rescue therapy used in patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) [3], could alter the pharmacokinetics of certain drugs [4]. We prescribed anidulafungin for suspected IC in a patient with severe ARDS on ECMO and measured the plasma concentrations of the drug using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Higher Fluid Balance Increases the Risk of Death From Sepsis: Results From a Large International Audit

2017

Contains fulltext : 177598.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) OBJECTIVES: Excessive fluid therapy in patients with sepsis may be associated with risks that outweigh any benefit. We investigated the possible influence of early fluid balance on outcome in a large international database of ICU patients with sepsis. DESIGN: Observational cohort study. SETTING: Seven hundred and thirty ICUs in 84 countries. PATIENTS: All adult patients admitted between May 8 and May 18, 2012, except admissions for routine postoperative surveillance. For this analysis, we included only the 1,808 patients with an admission diagnosis of sepsis. Patients were stratified according to quartiles of cumulative f…

Rheopheresis in patients with ischemic diabetic foot syndrome: results of an open label prospective pilot trial.

2003

:  Rheopheresis is a specific application of membrane differential filtration, synonymous with double filtration plasmapheresis, for extracorporeal hemorheotherapy. Safety and efficacy of Rheopheresis for wound healing and skin oxygenation were investigated in patients with ischemic diabetic foot syndrome. Eight patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and non-healing foot ulcers caused by severe ischemic diabetic foot syndrome were treated by a series of seven Rheopheresis sessions in a time span of 11 weeks. Wound healing had not been detectable under conditions of standardized wound care during at least 2 months. Wound status was classified by its morphology, severity and location, accordi…

Reevaluation of direct true lumen cannulation in surgery for acute type A aortic dissection.

2009

Background The optimal mode of arterial cannulation in acute type A aortic dissection is controversial. We retrospectively investigated our experience with direct true lumen cannulation as an alternative to standard cannulation procedures. Methods From April 2004 to August 2007, 29 patients (20 men, 9 women; mean age of 63.2 ± 12.6 years) underwent emergency operation for acute type A aortic dissection with direct true lumen cannulation. After venous drainage into the venous reservoir, the ascending aorta was completely transected in the region between the sinotubular junction and innominate artery. After visual and digital identification of the true lumen, the arterial cannula was directly…
