The Effect of Nb Incorporation on the Electronic Properties of Anodic HfO2
2017
Hafnium oxide and Nb doped HfO2 were grown by anodizing sputtering-deposited Hf and Hf-4at.%Nb. Photoelectrochemical characterization was carried out in order to estimate solid state properties such as band gap, flat band potential and electrons internal photoemission threshold energy as a function of thickness and composition of anodic oxides. Optical transitions at energy lower than the band gap value of the investigated anodic films were evidenced, and they are attributed to optical transitions involving localized states inside the band gap. Such states were located at 3.6 eV and 3.9 eV below the conduction band edge for the Nb free and Nb containing hafnium oxide, respectively. Impedanc…
Formation of anodic films on sputtering-deposited Al–Hf alloys
2009
Abstract The growth of barrier-type anodic films at high efficiency on a range of sputtering-deposited Al–Hf alloys, containing from 1 to 95 at.% Hf, has been investigated in ammonium pentaborate electrolyte. The alloys encompassed nanocrystalline and amorphous structures, the latter being produced for alloys containing from 26 to 61 at.% Hf. Except at the highest hafnium content, the films were amorphous and contained units of HfO 2 and Al 2 O 3 distributed relatively uniformly through the film thickness. Boron species were confined to outer regions of the films. The boron distributions suggest that the cation transport number decreases progressively with increasing hafnium concentration i…
Scenario of the Birth of Hidden Attractors in the Chua Circuit
2017
Recently it was shown that in the dynamical model of Chua circuit both the classical selfexcited and hidden chaotic attractors can be found. In this paper the dynamics of the Chua circuit is revisited. The scenario of the chaotic dynamics development and the birth of selfexcited and hidden attractors is studied. It is shown a pitchfork bifurcation in which a pair of symmetric attractors coexists and merges into one symmetric attractor through an attractormerging bifurcation and a splitting of a single attractor into two attractors. The scenario relating the subcritical Hopf bifurcation near equilibrium points and the birth of hidden attractors is discussed.

Fabrication and characterization of microscale HfO2-based Memristors
2017
Memristors are metal/insulator/metal devices whose resistance can be switched between two different states (i.e. the low resistive state LRS, and the high resistive state, HRS) by applying a proper voltage value over the two metal contacts [1], [2]. Their simple structure makes memristors prone to extreme down scaling and 3-D stacking potentiality, and excellent compatibility with the complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. Moreover, because of their low power consumption and high speed, memristors are rightly considered the elemental bricks for a next generation of high-density nonvolatile memories. HfO2 has attracted much attention as an oxide material for memristor app…

Free vibrations of anisotropic panels
2004
A meshfree approach, called Displacement Boundary Method, for the analysis of in-plane and out-of-plane free vibrations of anisotropic plates is presented. The discretization process is based on the use of a modified variational principle and the static fundamental solutions of the problem operators. The stiffness and mass matrices are frequencyindependent, symmetric and positive definite and their computation requires boundary integrations of regular kernels only. Thus, the final resolving system can be solved with classical approaches by using standard numerical procedures. Numerical results are presented to show the accuracy and effectiveness of the method.
The methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase C677T polymorphism and the risk of congenital heart diseases: a literature review
2014
Congenital Heart Diseases (CHDs) are the most commonand serious developmental anomaly and the leading non-infectious cause of mortality in the first year of life. Despite the advances in diagnosis and treatment, understanding of the developmental causes and aetiologies of CHDs has been limited. The hyperhomocysteinemia is one of the proved risk factors related to the occurrence of CHDs. The connection between cardiac defects, folate and hyperhomocysteinemia could be explained by a mutation in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene. Indeed, the C677T MTHFR mutation produces a thermolabile variant of MTHFR with reduced enzymatic action resulting in higher plasma levels of homocy…
In Situ Characterization of Hfq Bacterial Amyloid: A Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy Study
2019
Hfq is a bacterial protein that regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level in Gram-negative bacteria. We have previously shown that Escherichia coli Hfq protein, and more precisely its C-terminal region (CTR), self-assembles into an amyloid-like structure in vitro. In the present work, we present evidence that Hfq unambiguously forms amyloid structures also in vivo. Taking into account the role of this protein in bacterial adaptation and virulence, our work opens possibilities to target Hfq amyloid self-assembly and cell location, with potential to block bacterial adaptation and treat infections.
