Assessment of fractures in endodontically treated teeth restored with and without root canal posts using high-resolution cone beam computed tomography

2020

Abstract Background: Root fractures are a diagnostic challenge for dentists because their signs and symptoms are not present in all cases, and they are difficult to differentiate from endodontic treatment failures, the purpose of the present study was to determine the relationship between the characteristics of tooth fractures and the presence of root canal posts in endodontically treated teeth using high-resolution cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: Fifty high-resolution CBCT scans of endodontically treated teeth with a diagnosis of fracture were obtained, of which 30 were from women and 20 were from men. These scans were acquired with three Veraviewepocs 3D units and one 3D Ac…

Micro-computed tomographic evaluation of dentinal defects after root canal preparation with hyflex edm and vortex blue rotary systems

2018

Background To evaluate the incidence of dentinal microcracks formation after root canal shaping procedures with HyFlex EDM and Vortex Blue rotary systems comparing with that of hand instrumentation using micro-computed tomography. Material and methods Mandibular first molar teeth (n=60) having 50 to 200mesial root curvature were scanned using high resolution micro-CT imaging before root canal preparation to identify the presence of dentinal defects. Post-instrumentation cross-sectional images were taken and increased number and type of root defects were assessed and recorded. The data was statistically analysed by using chi-square test and McNemar's test at a significance level of 5%. Resul…

Future hypernuclear physics at MAMI-C and PANDA-GSI

2005

Hypernuclei represent the first steps towards an extension of the periodic system into the sector of strangeness and thus add a third dimension to our evolving picture of nuclei. They provide a large variety of new and exciting perspectives ranging from new dynamical symmetries in hypernuclei spectra, non-mesonic weak decays, and the interplay of the quark-exchange and meson-exchange aspects of strong baryon–baryon forces in the flavor SU(3) world. Furthermore, double hypernuclei may provide a doorway towards exotic quark states. In the near future, electroproduction experiments at TJNAF and MAMI-C will add more detailed information on the structure of single hypernuclei states. On the long…

Efficient, high-resolution resonance laser ionization spectroscopy using weak transitions to long-lived excited states

2017

Laser spectroscopic studies on minute samples of exotic radioactive nuclei require very efficient experimental techniques. In addition, high resolving powers are required to allow extraction of nu- clear structure information. Here we demonstrate that by using weak atomic transitions, resonance laser ionization spectroscopy is achieved with the required high efficiency (1-10%) and precision (linewidths of tens of MHz). We illustrate experimentally and through the use of simulations how the narrow experimental linewidths are achieved and how distorted resonance ionization spec- troscopy lineshapes can be avoided. The role of the delay of the ionization laser pulse with respect to the excitat…

Measurement of the quadrupole moment of Re185 and Re187 from the hyperfine structure of muonic X rays

2020

The hyperfine splitting of the 5g→4f transitions in muonic Re185,187 has been measured using high resolution high purity germanium detectors and compared to state-of-the-art atomic theoretical predictions. The spectroscopic quadrupole moment has been extracted using modern fitting procedures and compared to the values available in literature obtained from muonic x rays of natural rhenium. The extracted values of the nuclear spectroscopic quadrupole moment are 2.07(5) b and 1.94(5) b, respectively for Re185 and Re187.

High Resolution Spectroscopy of 4U 1728-34 from a Simultaneous Chandra-RXTE Observation

2004

We report on a simultaneous Chandra and RossiXTE observation of the LMXB atoll bursting source 4U 1728-34 performed on 2002 March 3-5. We fitted the 1.2-35 keV continuum spectrum with a blackbody plus a Comptonized component. An overabundance of Si by a factor of ~2 with respect to Solar abundance is required for a satisfactory fit. Large residuals at 6-10 keV can be fitted by a broad (FWHM ~ 1.6 keV) Gaussian emission line, or, alternatively, by absorption edges associated with Fe I and Fe XXV at ~7.1 keV and ~9 keV, respectively. In this interpretation, we find no evidence of a broad, or narrow Fe Kalpha line, between 6 and 7 keV. We tested our alternative modeling of the iron Kalpha regi…

High-Resolution Spectroscopy and Preliminary Analysis of the ν1/ν8 Dyad of SF535Cl

2001

Abstract The Fourier transform infrared spectrum of monoisotopic SF 5 35 Cl has been recorded in the 650- to 960-cm −1 region at a temperature of 203 K, a pressure of 0.2 mbar, and an instrumental bandwidth of 0.002 cm −1 . The ν 1 /ν 8 dyad near 900 cm −1 has been analyzed with an effective Hamiltonian developed up to the fourth order and the help of a recently developed set of programs called C 4 v TDS ( C 4 v Top Data System, http://www.u-bourgogne.fr/LPUB/C4VTDS.html ); 1346 transitions for ν 1 , 351 transitions for ν 8 , and 406 ground state combination differences have been assigned and fitted. A global fit has been obtained with an rms of 0.00082 cm −1 for the ν 1 ( a 1 ) band, of 0.…

Combined high-resolution laser spectroscopy and nuclear decay spectroscopy for the study of the low-lying states inFr206,At202, andBi198

2016

High-resolution laser spectroscopy was performed on $^{206}\mathrm{Fr}$ with the collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy (CRIS) experiment at CERN-ISOLDE. The hyperfine structure and isotope shift of the ground, first isomeric and second isomeric states were measured. The hyperfine components were unambiguously assigned to each nuclear state by means of laser-assisted nuclear decay spectroscopy. The branching ratios in the $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ decay of $^{206}\mathrm{Fr}$ and $^{202}\mathrm{At}$ were also measured for the first time with isomerically purified beams. The extracted hindrance factors allow determination of the spin of the ground, first isomeric, and second isomeric states…
