HIGH-RESOLUTION SURFACE AND BED TOPOGRAPHY MAPPING OF RUSSELL GLACIER (SW GREENLAND) USING UAV AND GPR

2020

Abstract. This study presents the detailed survey of the northern marginal part of Russell Glacier, SW Greenland using the combination of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry and low-frequency ground penetrating radar (GPR) measurements. Obtained digital elevation model (DEM) and ice thickness data from GPR data allowed the generation of high precision subglacial topography model. We report uncertainties arising from GPR, GPS, and DEM suggesting sufficient accuracy for the reconstruction of glacier bed topography. GPR data and generated subglacial topography model does not reveal any possible Nye channel that could be incised into the bedrock, however, we were able to detect englaci…

TERRESTRIAL LASER SCANNING FOR COASTAL GEOMORPHOLOGIC RESEARCH IN WESTERN GREECE

2012

We used terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) for (i) accurate volume estimations of dislocated boulders moved by high-energy impacts and for (ii) monitoring of annual coastal changes. In this contribution, we present three selected sites in Western Greece that were surveyed during a time span of four years (2008-2011). The Riegl LMS-Z420i laser scanner was used in combination with a precise DGPS system (Topcon HiPer Pro). Each scan position and a further target were recorded for georeferencing and merging of the point clouds. For the annual detection of changes, reference points for the base station of the DGPS system were marked. Our studies show that TLS is capable to accurately estimate volu…

A classical phenotype of Anderson-Fabry disease in a female patient with intronic mutations of the GLA gene: a case report

2012

Abstract Background Fabry disease (FD) is a hereditary metabolic disorder caused by the partial or total inactivation of a lysosomal hydrolase, the enzyme α-galactosidase A (GLA). This inactivation is responsible for the storage of undegraded glycosphingolipids in the lysosomes with subsequent cellular and microvascular dysfunction. The incidence of disease is estimated at 1:40,000 in the general population, although neonatal screening initiatives have found an unexpectedly high prevalence of genetic alterations, up to 1:3,100, in newborns in Italy, and have identified a surprisingly high frequency of newborn males with genetic alterations (about 1:1,500) in Taiwan. Case presentation We des…

High-resolution orthophoto map and digital surface models of the largest Argentine Islands (the Antarctic) from unmanned aerial vehicle photogrammetry

2020

This study presents the first high-resolution orthophoto maps and digital surface models (DSMs) of the largest Argentine Islands, West Antarctica. Aerial surveys with small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) were performed in Austral summer, 2018, taking 10,041 aerial photographs. Accuracy requirements were ensured using ground control points (GCPs). A resolution of 3.4 and 6.8 cm/px of orthomosaics and DSMs is reached on average, and the RMS reprojection error is 0.22 m on average. We report the morphometric parameters of surveyed islands and discuss issues related to accuracy and the usage of UAVs in polar conditions. This study demonstrates that small and low cost UAVs can be successfully use…

Global analysis of the high resolution infrared spectrum of methane 12CH4 in the region from 0 to 4800 cm-1

2009

International audience; We report the global analysis of methane (12CH4) lines from high resolution rovibrational spectra including accurate line positions and intensities in the region 0–4800 cm−1. This covers four polyads: The Ground State Monad (rotational levels), the Dyad (940–1850 cm−1, 2 vibrational levels, 2 sublevels), the Pentad (2150–3350 cm−1, 5 vibrational levels, 9 sublevels) and the Octad (3550–4800 cm−1, 8 vibrational levels, 24 sublevels) and some of the associated hot bands (Pentad−Dyad and Octad−Dyad). New Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra of the Pentad and Octad regions have been recorded with a very high resolution (better than 0.001 cm−1 instrumental bandwidth,…

Differences Between Conventional Anorectal Manometry and High Resolution/High Definition Anorectal Manometry

2020

The book provides a comprehensive overview of high-resolution and high-definition anorectal manometry (HRAM/HDAM), showing the possible benefits of a wider use of these techniques in clinical practice, as well as their limitations. Although these techniques provide fresh insights into anorectal function and offer a new perspective on the pathophysiologic mechanisms of many defecation disturbances, there is a need to clarify whether their use has beneficial effects on clinical management compared to conventional manometry. There is still a considerable way to go to gain the clinical diffusion of esophageal HRM, which has become the gold standard in studying esophageal motility. Indeed, many …

Performing, Analyzing, and Interpreting HRAM and HDAM Recordings

2020

Anorectal manometry is one of the most widely performed tests for the assessment of anal sphincter function and anorectal coordination. Nowadays high resolution (HRAM) and high definition anorectal manometry (HDAM) are available, instead of the water-perfused system. The ability to visualize the anorectum as a dynamic structure during test maneuvers should intuitively allow for a better appreciation of the normal physiology and hopefully enhance our understanding of the pathophysiology of defecatory dysfunctions. Even if the anorectal manometry protocols can vary by centers, the procedure must include an assessment of rectoanal pressure and anal canal length at rest, cough reflex test, rect…

Systematic review of the diagnosis of gastric premalignant conditions and neoplasia with high-resolution endoscopic technologies

2013

Aim. The aim of the article is to systematically review the current evidence on the diagnostic use of narrow band imaging (NBI), flexible spectral imaging color enhancement (FICE) and endoscopic image enhancement technology i-scan endoscopies for gastric precancerous and cancerous lesions. Materials and methods. Original manuscripts were searched in PubMed until October 2012. Pertinent data were collected and pooled diagnostic accuracy measures were estimated when possible. Results. In total, 38 studies were evaluated. Thirty-one studies were included for NBI and 7 studies for FICE assessment in this systematic review. No article was found meeting inclusion criteria for i-scan endoscopy. Th…

The value of high resolution CT in the diagnosis of meniscal lesions of the knee

1991

We report on 50 patients who had meniscal pathology and were given computed tomographic (CT) scans. Our diagnostic accuracy was approximately 92%. We believe that CT is a good method of screening these patients prior to using a much more expensive method, such as magnetic resonance imaging or diagnostic arthroscopy.

High Resolution CT Angiography in Detection of an Aneurysm of the Vein of Galen as a Source of Intracranial Haemorrhage in a Newborn.

2011

Cerebral haemorrhage is a rare condition in infants and carries a known poor prognosis. Common causes of spontaneous haemorrhage include various vascular venous lesions due to incomplete hydrovenous maturation, among them Galen vein aneurysm may be a very rare cause of cerebral haemorrhage. This report emphasizes the role of multidector CT with high resolution CT angiography in a newborn with cerebral hemorrhage caused by Galen vein aneurysm rupture. MDCT with high resolution CT angiography helps to differentiate the cause of haemorrhage, and to address the appropriate treatment.
