Effect of coatings on long term behaviour of a commercial stainless steel for solid oxide electrolyser cell interconnect application in H2 /H2O atmos…

2014

Abstract K41X (AISI 441) stainless steel evidenced a high electrical conductivity after 3000 h ageing in H 2 /H 2 O side when used as interconnect for solid oxide electrolyser cells (SOEC) working at 800 °C. Perovskite (La 1 − x Sr x MnO 3 − δ ) and spinel (Co 3 O 4 ) oxides coatings were applied on the surface of the ferritic steel for ageing at 800 °C for 3000 h. Both coatings improved the behaviour of the steel and give interesting opportunities to use the K41X steel as interconnect for hydrogen production via high temperature steam electrolysis. Co 3 O 4 reduced into Co leading to a very good Area Specific Resistance (ASR) parameter, 0.038 Ω cm 2 . Despite a good ASR (0.06 Ω cm 2 ), La …

Dual atmosphere study of the K41X stainless steel for interconnect application in high temperature water vapour electrolysis

2015

Abstract High temperature water vapour electrolysis (HTE) is one of the most efficient technologies for mass hydrogen production. A major technical difficulty related to high temperature water vapour electrolysis is the development of interconnects working efficiently for a long period. Working temperature of 800 °C enables the use of metallic materials as interconnects. High temperature corrosion behaviour and electrical conductivity of a commercial stainless steel, K41X (AISI 441), were tested in HTE dual atmosphere (95%O 2 -5%H 2 0/10%H 2 -90%H 2 O) at 800 °C. The alloy exhibits a very good oxidation resistance compared to single atmosphere tests. However, a supplied electrical current s…

High-pressure structural and elastic properties of Tl2O3

2014

The structural properties of Thallium (III) oxide (Tl2O3) have been studied both experimentally and theoretically under compression at room temperature. X-ray powder diffraction measurements up to 37.7 GPa have been complemented with ab initio total-energy calculations. The equation of state of Tl2O3 has been determined and compared to related compounds. It has been found experimentally that Tl2O3 remains in its initial cubic bixbyite-type structure up to 22.0 GPa. At this pressure, the onset of amorphization is observed, being the sample fully amorphous at 25.2 GPa. The sample retains the amorphous state after pressure release. To understand the pressure-induced amorphization process, we h…

Determination of transport and kinetic properties in self-propagating high-temperature synthesis

2007

International audience; Exothermic reactions in solid powders are analyzed using the usual macroscopic modeling based on the heat transfer equation coupled to an Arrhenius type of dynamics. This problem have important applications in the synthesis of intermetallics and ceramic materials which occur when a high temperature reaction wave propagates throughout the system. Understanding the mechanism of such processes are thus crucial in mastering real laboratory experiments. We first analyze the model, both theoretically and numerically, for a set of representative parameters. We then use traditional data analyses procedures to estimate from the temperature profiles the same set of representat…

Combustion synthesis of MoSi2 and MoSi2–Mo5Si3 composites: Multilayer modeling and control of the microstructure

2010

International audience; In this work, we present a multilayer modeling for the formation of molybdenum silicides in the exothermic reaction between Mo and Si under the influence of a temperature pulse. The heating rate can either be a well-controlled ramp or be generated spontaneously by the propagation of a combustion synthesis front. The model addresses the specific situation above the melting point of silicon and describes the solid–liquid reaction taking place in a single representative particle of molybdenum surrounded by the melt of silicon. We obtain a set of kinetic equations for the propagation of the interfaces between the different layers (Mo/Mo5Si3 and Mo5Si3/MoSi2) in the solid…

In-situ annealing characterization of atomic-layer-deposited Al2O3 in N2, H2 and vacuum atmospheres

2019

Tarkista embargo, kun artikkeli julkaistu. Atomic-layer-deposited Al 2 O 3 films can be used for passivation, protective, and functional purposes in electronic devices. However, as-deposited, amorphous alumina is susceptible to chemical attack and corrosion during manufacturing and field-use. On the contrary, crystalline Al 2 O 3 is resistant against aggressive chemical treatments and corrosion. Here, high-temperature treatments in N 2 , H 2 , and vacuum were used to crystallize alumina which exhibited different crystalline phases. The annealing process was monitored continuously in situ by measuring the film temperature and surface reflectance to understand the crystallization kinetics. Ex…

Increasing Cold Tolerance of Cactus Pear Fruit by High-Temperature Conditioning and Film Wrapping

2017

Pre-storage high-temperature conditioning (HTC, 38 °C, and 95% RH for 24 h) and individual film wrapping (IFW) with a perforated polyolefinic heat-shrinkable film were used as individual treatments or in combination to mitigate chilling injury of first crop cactus pear cv ‘Gialla’. The fruit was stored for 21 days at either 2 or 8 °C (CS) plus 1 week of simulated marketing conditions (SMC) at 20 °C. The reduction in peel disorders and decay in HTC-treated fruit stored at 2 °C was comparable to that detected in control fruit stored at 8 °C. IFW was more efficient than HTC in reducing peel disorders, almost completely inhibited weight loss, and preserved freshness in fruit st…

Intergrain Effects in the AC Susceptibility of Polycrystalline LaFeAsO_{0.94}F_{0.06}

2010

The AC susceptibility, chi, at zero DC magnetic field of a polycrystalline sample of LaFeAsO_{0.94}F_{0.06} (Tc ≈ 24 K) has been investigated as a function of the temperature, the amplitude of the AC magnetic field (in the range Hac = 0.003 Oe - 4 Oe) and the frequency (in the range f = 10 kHz - 100 kHz). The chi(T) curve exhibits the typical two-step transition arising from the combined response of superconducting grains and intergranular weak-coupled medium. The intergranular part of chi strongly depends on both the amplitude and the frequency of the AC driving field, from few Kelvin below Tc down to T = 4.2 K. Our results show that, in the investigated sample, the intergrain critical cur…

Harmonic emission at microwave frequencies in Ba0.6K0.4BiO3 crystals

1998

Abstract Nonlinear microwave emission by Ba0.6K0.4BiO3 crystals is investigated. Second- and third-harmonic signals are studied as a function of the temperature and the applied magnetic field at different values of the input power level. The experimental data are discussed in the framework of models previously reported in the literature. We show that there are several mechanisms responsible for harmonic emission in Ba0.6K0.4BiO3 crystals: they play a different role depending on the temperature and the intensity of the applied field. We suggest that harmonic emission at temperatures far from Tc is due to nonlinear processes in weak links or flux motion, while nonlinearity near Tc is ascribab…
